Yup, they're behaving like a poor sixth form 'council'.

Re: Treat meat eaters like smokers, says shadow cabinet vegan
Who knows, maybe next they will talk about banning halal and kosher meats with the methods of killing used. Then again maybe not.

Oh, please. If our ancestors hadn't hunted for meat and fur as the last glaciation retreated, that prat wouldn't be here to raise the issue!
We are omnivores. There is no legislation or wishful thinking that can change that fact. A healthy diet should include meat - we are not rabbits! On the other hand, fox hunting should still remain illegal. Hunting an animal when you're not going to eat it is wrong. It isn't"sport" to hunt something that can't fight or shoot back. The same applies to big game hunting. If you're going to hunt, do it because you're in a situation where you have no other choice, e.g. if you're stranded somewhere and you've nothing else to eat. Then it becomes a matter of simple survival and is therefore justified; the hunter is then essentially a predator doing what's necessary to live. Nothing wrong with that at all; no-one complains when a cheetah takes down one of those cute little antelopes. But hunting for "sport" is vile. |

Awaits the idiot who suggests banning chocolate as being unhealthy..Anyway until the vast majority of the UK turns vegan there is no chance of that ever happening.

It's comic book politics, isn't it? I think the Greens are more credible than Corbyn's lot, and that's saying something!
The vast majority of the Parliamentary Labour Party should now take control, form a 'New Labour' Party and leave the loony lefties to stew in their own juice. The 'New Labour' party could then immediately assume the mantle of the 'Opposition' to the Government. |

This is how bandwagons start, something for the "ban everything" crowd to get their teeth into.
Don't they realise there isn't enough arable land to feed the world population just veggies? |

Re: Treat meat eaters like smokers, says shadow cabinet vegan
Actually cattle rearing is great use of very poor nutrient grasslands where other crops would be very expensive and difficult to grow, Ditto lamb, goat and others. Just producing the fertilisers would ruin most attempts, and most importantly the land itself.
The "bread basket" of northern India, for example is going to collapse dramatically in the not too distant future. And that will mean extreme famine for millions, many vegetarians. All due to excess use of artificial fertilisers. |
Re: Treat meat eaters like smokers, says shadow cabinet vegan
Yup. Plenty of Galloway and Highland cattle are grazing around here, on rough, boggy land you can barely call pasture. Chances of arable farming occurring on any of this land is nil. Chances of deriving a very tasty steak ... rather better.

Wonder if we're doing anything to tackle this instead of attacking meat eaters because if we don't we're all dead

Re: Treat meat eaters like smokers, says shadow cabinet vegan
Yes I've long thought we are on the verge of a perfect storm and the recent migration issue in Europe could well be seen in time to be the tipping point although there are plenty of other points of tension around the globe for assorted reasons. When vast numbers of poor and desperate people decide to go on the move and effectively force their way across borders we're in a desperate situation with all sorts of possible ramifications. The planet is too small to sustain the growing population in the manner most people would like and are increasingly willing to fight for. We can add to all that the inevitable cultural/religious tensions which are simmering away all over the place. Whether it's lack of food/water. escaping plague/war and/or just trying to get out of severe poverty, desperate people are starting to do desperate things in large numbers and I can't see any way back from this point.
