pc gaming controller
I'm thinking of taking up gaming on the pc via steam and one of the games I wanna get is my all time favourite street fighter.
Can anyone recommend a good controller not just for this game but others I may choose to play. Thanks. |
Re: pc gaming controller
Well you can't go wrong with an Xbox controller on a PC.

Re: pc gaming controller
Or a PS3 controller.
|
Re: pc gaming controller
PS3 controller requires a bit more additional setup, Xbox 360 seems to be the most accepted. Personal preference on which you prefer really. I go for a wired 360 controller.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/PowerA-Air-F.../dp/B005761E70 One of the best third party controllers I've played with. Seems the popularity got the better of it and thus increased the price given I got it for £20 at Christmas. Standard 360 wired controllers could be had for around the £20ish mark now I would assume. |
Re: pc gaming controller
Most people I know use the PS3 controller over the Xbox one. I don't know what the setup is, as far as I know they're both just ordinary Bluetooth.

Re: pc gaming controller
Xbox controllers are wireless.
|
Re: pc gaming controller
Bluetooth isn't wireless?!
|
Re: pc gaming controller
I don't think i've ever seen a PS controller recommended for PC. The XBOX one usually works with games out of the box whereas PS ones usually need some faffing around to get them setup in each game.

Re: pc gaming controller
WTF is bluetooth if it isn't wireless???
What protocol to Xbox/PS wireless controllers use? A quick google came up with this (Not Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth (which the PS3 and Wii use). Some sort of proprietary 2.4 GHz protocol) I remember I bought an adapter to connect my 360's wireless controllers to my PC, I stopped using after throwing 3 controllers at the wall playing battlefield. :D |

Dunno about the wired ones, who on earth uses wired controllers anyway? The 1990's called, they want their controller back! |
Re: pc gaming controller
it's slightly different, but I'd imagine similar, but to use my ps3 blu ray remote with my pc, I use a standard bluetooth transmitter in the pc, but I had to find and download a little program some-one wrote to actually use the remote.
the xbox controller prob uses standard windows wifi stuff |

As for bluetooth vs wireless i don't really see how that's a plus or minus for either, both require you to have a receiver the 360 wireless controller comes with one anyway which is also just plug and play with no messing around. You'd be surprised how many people just use the wired one. It comes with a huge lead and just works. Edit - reading back through your posts i'm not sure if you've even used either of them. |

Given the number of PCs and laptops with Bluetooth receivers built in vs. the number with XBox controller receivers built in, it's a no-brainer. |
Re: pc gaming controller
Clear it up a bit.
You can connect a PS3 controller to a PC through MotioninJoy and DS3 drivers immediately using the charger supplied with the controller. So yes some work involved there but nothing that will explode your mind. You have to repeat the same process if using a bluetooth adapter to connect thus making the controller wireless. The easiest setup is infact the Xbox 360 wired controller which is literally plug and play. The xbox 360 wireless controller requires an external adapter that are no longer manufactured but can be found pretty easily. They're about as easy as the wired PS3 setup. You simply plug the adapter in, wait for it to fail the driver installation, go to device manager and highlight the device, manually find the driver - Microsoft common controller Xbox 360 2006. Then turn the controller on and off when you please. Xbox One - Wired, See Xbox 360 wired controller. TL: DR The PS3 and Xbox wired controllers will work without any addons required. To make the PS3 controller wireless you need a bluetooth adapter as already explained. The xbox 360 wireless controller needs http://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Wir.../dp/B000MGVAAQ I've never seen a 360 controller sold with a wireless receiver and as far as I'm aware they aren't even being manufactured anymore. As pointed out earlier, given the massive support for 360 controllers on PC and a lot of games there's only a select few that allow you to preset a PS3 controller, PES being one of them off the top of my head. It's different versions of the adapter that fail install and there's quite a few versions. They're not dodgy by any means it's just the initial setup. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_...deogames%2C204 I've had a fair few of them and I've yet to get one, official or not that doesn't work. Once the bundled ones run out then that's it, they're no longer manufactured and the rest are third party ones but like I've said they do work just as well. The other one posted in my last post, this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Wir...eiver+xbox+360 this is the one taken directly from the bundle and sold at a higher price separately, no doubt they're selling the controller separately and making a profit. Again though this is an official one that was manufactured by Microsoft. |

Really it just comes down to whatever you have already. I wouldn't buy either if we didn't already have a stash of them in the living room. |
