Blimey, by now already on Volume 3 so a really slow year for channel launches. Mind you, apart from Atlantic are there any channels left for Virgin to get?

Food network is bringing it's app to virgin media tivo according to a source no date given.
The app will allow you to catch up on shows and go behind the scenes at some of food networks popular shows such as ready steady cook, diners driveins and dives and chopped.
The app will offer both sd and hs content.
If the app is anything like the android app then good look with watching anything as it tends to buffer a lot and crashes.

ITV Encore, History HD and Universal HD, together with Amazon Instant app would be nice.

Your new Sony TV should have an Amazon instant app on it, and Now TV via your Roku has ITV Encore.

BT Europe and BT Showcase are two different channels

BT Europe will no doubt be in HD.

Techibcally - BT Showcase doesn't need to be on Virgin or Sky

BT hints that BT Sport customers on VM may get AMC

Broadband TV News Sport is not the only fruit for BT. Its exclusive deal with AMC will see the channel debut for BT subscribers in the autumn – available to BT Sport viewers whether viewing over BT TV or Sky – Petter added that while he wouldn’t rule out the prospect of the original drama channel being added to Virgin Media homes who already enjoy the BT Sport channels.

It starts programming on a Saturday but is already on-air with previews - technically it could be added any day.

Read this website entry from the old NTL days. I found it as a Wayback Machine archive link from Wikipedia:

http://web.archive.org/web/200607040...oninfofreeview

Additionally, it said that they changed the channel line-up every MONTH, so if the new Virgin Media had adopted NTL's strategy of content acquisition, VM would be the first stop for telecoms in the UK

Out of interest, would people rather have channels like History, Disney and whatever added in HD or a dynamic live EPG? I would rather have the EPG myself I think.

2) We feel that Virgin Media may launch BT Sport Europe on July 30th.

From the link, it shows it being in the package rather than just the XL TV on it's own. I would have thought it would be in the XL TV package too though.

Nice link, thanks mate.

This is going to be Virgin's USP....forget Atlantic, we'll have all of the football in one subscription. Could entice people to swtich.

Again all we know that time of posting both Virgin Media and BT are still in talks on "how to package" BT Sport Europe on Virgin Media from August 1st.

Did you know that Sky Sports 3 HD, Sky Sports 4 HD and Sky Sports F1 HD did launch on Virgin Media an year ago tomorrow.

Excellent find freeburn.

Interestingly there is only a £28 difference between the list price of Big Kahuna and Big Kahuna Sports which includes Premier Sports and BT Europe.

BT Europe in XL looks promising IMO and if that doesn't happen then there is a bargaining chip to be had with that interesting £28 difference

If it's not old wrestlers then it's Samuel L. Jackson quotes :D

Yes, pricing is and always has been confusing. Looks like I'm on the same package as you but I cancelled Sky Sports when the season ticket ran out. I'm still hoping they do another season ticket this summer but if not I will enquire about this Big Kahuna Sports bundle, every pound saved here and there counts

It does sound like you are on Big Kahuna Sports, so you should be fine for BT Europe, Vince.

That is a pretty decent price for those wanting all the football plus speedy internet and all of the other TV channels.

Could encourage a lot of people to switch.

I'll be happy to be proved wrong but I don't think Premier Sport is included in the package.

The first part just seems to be saying "You get ALL the football with Virgin" then "see the Big Kahuna Sports Bundle." When you scroll down Premier Sports is missing - it took me a few moments to notice it earlier.

Yeah in the first part it does mention Eurosport HD and Premier Sports, but not when you scroll further down..not sure what that is all about.

The picture on Premier Sports SD channel is bad...so don't mind if it's not included haha...for £58.99 for new customers I can see it being a hit. The UK Live Sports market is huge, I can see VM turning a few heads with that offer.

Its not really any different to the current price - my immediate reaction was 'think I'll stay with VM' but...

My current package is £71 plus pennies without Sky Sports but includes line rental & anytime calls. If I add Sky Sports it becomes £102 plus pennies. The new deal is £77 but when you add in line rental and anytime calls you get....£102.

The reason I don't have Sky Sports is because I have it with Sky - including everything else in HD, Movies, Box Sets, Atlantic - the lot for £36pm. Admittedly that will go up (double, unless I can do some sweet talking) in a few months but in the meantime I'm happy.

Still not sure what to do, only 4 weeks to decide.

Great post BTW freeburn.

That is an interesting link posted by freeburn if somewhat confusing.

If it was indeed Sky Sports in HD, BT/ESPN in HD and Premier Sports for £28 p/m on top of the Big Kahuna price (as the first part of the ad suggests) that would be a very popular deal indeed. VM would poach loads of sports fan customers from rivals with that.

I would sign up straight away. But too good to be true

For what its worth i think a fair price for a total sports bundle should be around this price.

Let wait until it 100% confirmed.

We have found the following under "TV" down at the end of that link.

Quote:

Premium channels: Premium channels and package upgrades must be kept for at least 30 days. You must subscribe to Sky Sports and/or Sky Movies in SD to take these channels in HD. Sky Sports News HQ HD not yet available on Virgin Media. Sky Movies Premiere +1 not available in HD.

Just had a quick look at that bundle and took it through to the basket and it doesn't look as though it includes the Sky Premium HD charge so it'll be £7.00 on top of the quoted prices (so £65.99 (new) / £84.00 (existing) + LR).

Still good news for you VM guys though as looking at that deal, it would appear that BT Sport Europe seems to be heading into that bundle and therefore quite possibly the XL TV bundle.

We are starting to think that way due to the following (From that link posted yesterday):

Quote:

Sky vs Virgin Media comparison: Based on taking Virgin Media's Big Kahuna bundle (includes TV XL and Broadband XL with Phone M – weekend calls) vs Sky’s Entertainment Extra+ package with the shown add-ons on a 12-month minimum term.
An Virgin Media Source has told us that "Nothing has been confirmed yet" to them.

Must be an announcement shortly. Too much misinformation out and confusion! Maybe virgin media arent allowed to announce it due to a deal with bt sport?? like last time when we only got told we were going to get the channels on day of launch to make some people jump to bt...

But whoever launched that site early is a fool!

Virgin Media is to offer BT’s new European sports channel as part of its ‘The Big Kahuna Sports bundle’ according to a new promo page on its website.

Talk about confusing. The last para in the story reads:

"There’s currently no news on whether Virgin Media will also offer BT Sport Europe as part of its XL TV package as it has done BT Sport 1 & 2 and ESPN since their launch."

I thought Kahuna IS XL plus BB etc. No wonder Richard Branson lives on an island on the other side of the Atlantic - wish I did.

I'm on XL for everything. That translates as big kahuna. Is this a new package they're creating? Why are some things XL and something's named something daft? It's bewildering, confusing and I'm fairly clued up so imagine if you didn't have this place to visit! Some people must be completely lost!!

Yeah it's not clear whether you can just have the XL TV on its own, or you need to have the actual bundle and everything that goes with it....hopefully we'll have our answers soon

But it seems those on a big bundle or looking to get one, will have BT Sport Europe as part of it....well that was my take on it anyway lol
