Amazon just got a whole lot more expensive

Amazon’s minimum spend doubled as customers must now spend £20 to get free delivery.

To be honest it doesn't affect me as I usually pay extra to get stuff delivered quicker anyway.

I'm still debating if to get Prime or not.

I have prime (that is shared from a friend) they deliver on a Sunday which is nice. But I can't say as I'd pay the £79 for it.

Also sometimes they charge extra for the same item which isn't 'prime' so is it really giving me free delivery?

People on another Forum think it is a ruse to force people into signing up for their Prime service. I think if that is their long term plan, they will need to rethink as Play tried doing things like that and look where they ended up.

If you want the films, prime is a pretty good deal, otherwise, its quite expensive.

Maybe they're getting in with a price increase before Miliband pledges to cap them. :D

£20 seems reasonable to me (lots of companies have higher minimum order values for free delivery) and we tend to order multiple items so I'm not bothered. I just hope they'll be paying some tax on the profit this will generate.

Makes you wonder how places like ebuyer do it. I got a gaming mouse with free next day delivery for £5.99.

Although they do say the free next day delivery thing is a limited offer - it's been like that (for me at least) for over a year now. Last month I got a bracket which i needed for a SSD for £1.99 too.

I wonder if, as the supermarkets do with their suppliers for special offers, the carrier companies 'contribute' towards the offer in order to retain the business.

That's the reason they've raised the minimum spend, They were not making any sort of loss on the £10 minimum.

As a family Prime is great. We use the Prime video and free delivery can be great as it can be useful to put small orders in (say when there are limited volumes of an item).

There are other pluses too. Free photo storage. Kindle owners' library.

Some "other" companies via Amazon have free delivery too, separate from Amazon, sometimes when Amazon don't offer it. Not usually next day though.

I dont own a kindle, the streaming doesnt appeal to me either, i have google drive for file storage so unless they make a membership without the bells and whistles I'll probably go elsewhere

I use Amazon a lot, but Prime isn't any good for me, as I only would use the free delivery, they might be better off halving the price and having a Sub Prime just for deliveries, that would probably be more successful.

Sub prime could result in financial meltdown... ;)

They only just upped the price a year ago and changed it from deliveries only to also include streaming movies etc.

I used to use it when they included streaming until they upped the price and i realised i was far better off paying for USA Netflix.

I just had an email from RS (where I got my pi's from) and they have just removed their bottom limit for free next day delivery.

I've just got that one too. :)

Farnell still have a £20 (ex VAT) minimum so it looks like RS might get some business from me next time I need a small quantity of components.

Other online retailers are available.

Free delivery is the main reason I choose Amazon over a.n.other seller, even within the site itself. If the basket total inc. delivery isn't the cheapest, they won't get my business. If it is, they will. Simples.

Prime is £59 till tomorrow.

Anyone noticed where you look at something that is 'Prime' eligible. they put Want it tomorrow, 8 July? Order it within 8 hrs 34 mins and choose Express Delivery at checkout. ?

Express Delivery is before 1pm and even though you have Prime you have to pay extra for that. but with Prime you should get it tomorrow anyway.
just seems a bit deceiptful saying that now.
