Samsung Smart TV/Recorder Smart Hub not working -

I have a Samsung smart TV and also Blu-Ray recorder and both wont connect to the internet tonight. Tv is hard wired to smart hub and Blu-Ray wireless. When try to connect to apps on the smart hub it says on both devices "Connected to the wired network, but not to the internet. Check the DNS settings".

I have reset the TV to factory settings, rebooted router etc but to no avail. Internet seems to connect ok on all other devices in the house.

PS I'm with Virgin Media as my ISP if that helps.

Just found this website and it looks like Samsung servers are down.

http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/samsung.com.html

There is a fix if you change your DNS to 208.67.222.222

Good ol' DNS issues. Yet another reason to change your DNS at the router level.

Yup, it never goes away. I am going to have to start bookmarking these threads so I can use them the next time somebody asks why they should cough up for a proper router.

On the VM forum, the mod says it'll work if you change the DNS in the TV to VM's DNS address.

He doesn't say if that applies in modem mode as well which will cause some ructions.

What in the sweet ****. Does that mean Samsung TV's use their own bloody DNS servers unless you specify otherwise? Why on earth would they even do that.

Netflix I can sort of understand, but Samsung's own TV? Idiots. They could have at least fallen back to the DHCP set DNS servers.

Yeah, I heard all about that. I don't see why that would require custom DNS servers, though. Still, who'd buy a TV that's constantly listening to you...

Just pointing out these TVs have been victim of quite a series of dumb design decisions :)

I had this issue on a mates Series 5 smart TV, it wasnt wireless built in and he bought the wireless dongle from Samsung. We were there on and off for weeks with this problem wired and wireless.

I fixed the issue by taking out the Wireless dongle and plugging it into another USB port and it sprang to life.

So no-one would buy a smart TV?

No, let me be clear. I have no problem with Voice Recognition. I do have a problem with the recorded audio being beamed back to Samsung HQ, however...

yeah, you just need to do the research and find a brand that doesn't do that (like Sony or something)

We like our smart Sony without voice recognition:)

Personally I do prefer dumb TVs, the more like a computer monitor the better.

I get all my smartness from the attached Raspberry Pi and Chromecast.

I see your attached Raspberry Pi and Chromecast and raise you an attached Raspberry Pi, Chromecast, Roku, AVR, PS4, XBox360, Wii, and laptop.

Actually that's all attached to a 4 year old projector, which is as dumb as it gets.

Star Trek NG onwards is the reason why Smart TVs that listen and 10Gb circuits waiting in the wings are just the start of what's coming.

I want a holodeck and a replicator. When I win the euromillions I am going to be cryogenically frozen for as long as it takes to develop the technology.

Oh I've got more **** attached, those are just the things I'd class as making it "smart".

That said, it's not that smart because CEC never ****ing works the way I want it to.

3D printing is probably only a few (technology) generations off basically being replication technology.

It's already replication technology. Just not very good.

First thing we did when our new 3D scanner and printer was installed is we replicated the manager's mug - i.e. stuck it in the 3D scanner and then 3D printed out the scan.

Poses several questions:

1. Why would a future civilisation want to revive you?

Not being rude but all your current knowledge would be as obsolete as knowing how to code a TSR.

2. Who will pay? Unless you've made suitable investments.

3. Could you catch up?

General Maximus 28-04-2015 16:59

Re: Samsung Smart TV/Recorder Smart Hub not working -

all good points. I imagine their would be a social stigma towards people from the 20th century and their attitudes. I wouldn't mind making a short video and writing an essay before being frozen which could be stored digitally in my cryo pod explaining who I am and why I would like to be a part of the future. With regards to my knowledge and how I would catch up, you could look at it from two points of view. If we are sticking with the Star Trek universe, given the medical advances they have made in the future, I would gladly take a 10 year course/school to learn everything children do and bring myself up to scratch. The other option is consider advances in cybernetics and whether or not the technology would exist for me to simply have a data port in my neck or head where I can download information or keep it stored on something like an sd card.

Combine the above 3D mug printer with a standard coffee/tea machine...

Re: Samsung Smart TV/Recorder Smart Hub not working -

I wouldn't 3D print a car if I were you. At least not until colour, titanium 3D printers come down below £150,000. If you were ever involved in a crash, a lump of weak, brittle plastic to protect you against the engine block of a 16 litre diesel truck is not going to end well.

Kushan 29-04-2015 09:22

Re: Samsung Smart TV/Recorder Smart Hub not working -

Oh I know, don't you worry. I don't see any reason why 3D printers won't be capable of such things in the next couple of decades.
