“English racists move to Wales”

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news...s-away-5479068

Although 15 years ago this doesn’t shock me, I’ve heard similar many times in the past. Strangely enough stemming from the mid-Wales area.

Not sure how to prove it really. Does the census distinguish by home nation? Even then the numbers are probably small enough not to make a statistically significant impression. Interesting to think there is a British equivalent of the type of NWO conspiracy theorist that goes to live off grid in Idaho.

I think he’s being a bit hopeful with that claim.

If they are moving in, they will just add to the number of home-grown racists that are more anti English than against anyone "of colour". Especially if they don't speak Welsh.

I don't know anyone who is anti-English.

Now that's spot on, especially in the north.

Bit much to expect them to speak Welsh though.

Social engineering has been in progress in Wales for many years, and it is moving forward with more fervour than ever before.

Forcing all children to study the Welsh language is now being replaced with forcing children to study only in Welsh.

School after school are being closed as English Medium and reopened (with a new Welsh language name of course) as Welsh Medium. Because of "demand". A demand I have never heard of outside the offices of certain politicians.

People in North Wales tend to be unfriendly towards anyone not speaking Welsh, even fellow taffs. Or perhaps especially fellow taffs.

Having lived in Ceredigion, I most certainly do. Or, at least, did. The pubs you could and couldn't go in as an English person were well known to all.

Depends how far north you go. Around Flintshire, where I worked for 3 years, a lot of people commute in and out of Chester and don't give any thought to the border at all, except when they get cruddy treatment from the Welsh NHS while their colleagues over the border do rather better out of Cheshire hospitals.

Surprised that attitude isn't challenged more. Although I guess we should never be surprised at the lengths people will go to to find a way to divide themselves.

Having lived nowhere near there I still don't know anyone anti-English, certainly no worse than general anti-Welsh sentiment in some English people.

The South is much more tolerant.

We don't challenge it as we simply don't care. The North Welsh are welcome to their little bit of the world.

I had friends that lived in Mold. One time some of us went to meet them but we were early so we went in the nearest pub which has some Welsh name.

We were in there hours had a great time. When our friends turned up they said is was a nationalists pub and they had never been there.

I would have thought they would moved back to England if Nigel wins a few seats.

Bring back Ivor the Engine I say.

I would agree with that statement when I was younger. In the past 5 years I have been going up there about once a month (including during bad weather) on my motorbike with a work mate, he is English and would agree that we have never encountered the problem.

I can only recall once in the Indian restaurant we regularly visit when we had a guy going on a bit promoting the Welsh language. I think they have come to realise they have very little income apart from tourism, so they don't bite the hand that feeds them these days.

There is however a level of hatred for the English amongst the extreme element of the Plaid Cymru party and its supporters who want devolution. I think these people have not yet realised Wales would be bankrupt without the handouts from those they so despise.

We can blame Welsh Labour for the social engineering!

I do know of a family (not Welsh) that moved out of Cardiff because they were being surrounded by foreigners, they had moved from Bradford to Cardiff for the same reason.

I'm pretty sure the majority of people who believe the idea we are mostly anti-English will be from people who have never spent more than an hour here but watch plenty of tv.

Writing during the 2006 football World Cup, Mr Thomas said: "I agree it is totally sickening the number of English flags to be seen around Wales. It really shows the level our society has been infiltrated by immigrants who aren't ready to integrate."

He also stated: "I got the opportunity when I was offered an English flag for half price in WHSmiths Oxford to answer with the sentence 'Since I am neither a simpleton nor a casual racist I must decline your offer.'"

I think it just goes to prove that Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru have some hateful people in their party.

I see it here on a local fb page, the Labour, Plaid and lately Green supporters are extremely racist towards the English. They are the ones that would vote for Welsh independence and cut all ties with England whilst knowing it would be financial suicide. These sort of people want to ruin Wales just so they can have their way.

The reality though is it's not the majority of Wales that feel this way, it's the small percentage of old school nationalists.

I'm Welsh, and there is no way I would vote for independence because it would mean handing over power to Welsh Labour and most likely Plaid Cymru to run the place into the ground. In 1997 only half the electorate turned out for the devolution vote and they voted in favour by a fraction of a percent, I would hope that people would vote using common sense and not because they hate the English.
