Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
Total internet failure, VM web site down (via mobile phone) & 150 blocked due to high volume of calls.
Is this how it starts? If so, Putin, we surrender! |
Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
Same here in RG12 area. Got to service status page on my virgin media and it says broadband service status is good. But it isn't. I finally got past the engaged tone on 150, but after 25 minutes listening to some pop music I gave up. Internet been down for a while now so I guess something major. Maybe Putin.

Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
And just what are MI6 doing about this, may I ask? What are we paying them for? They should definitely have snipped Putin's cable wire by now, but I expect we're going to have to think a bit bigger if we're going to persuade him to leave go.

Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
Glasgow G72 area is slow, really slow.. Called a friend who lives two miles away(also virgin customer) and his broadband is the same.
|
Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
Web browsing it slow and my Xbox One is running slow, both are wired.
Xbox One upload is: 3.85Mb but with Latency 283ms Upload is normally around 11.xxMb and Latency is normally 1xxms on Xbox One, online is running really slow. I am in the Lincoln area |
Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
Still totally dead here in Southampton. I have danced round my Shub thrice widdershins whilst sacrificing a chicken to the great Sir Clive (naked, of course [that' me naked, not Sir Clive, just to be clear {that' Sir Clive Sinclair I mean, just so there's no doubt}]) and still no joy. Can I interest anyone in putting together a wicker effigy of Babbage and sticking Branson in it (that's Charl... [SNIP! Ed.])?

Edit: Just come back online now in Portsmouth. |
Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
Haven't had any problems this evening - Greater Manchester area. Someone said there was a fire somewhere at one of their places? Not sure how true it is as I would have thought it would have been picked up by media.

Browsing is fine, VM website intermittent, but streaming anything or large downloads are really really slow or stuttering and buffering all the time 100mb internet connection as well. |
Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
SA1 in Swansea was also out for 3hrs.
|
Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
A high fibre count cable, most of which was in use, was cut by Openreach contractors in Gloucestershire. It handled a bunch of more local connectivity alongside regional and core links, one of which was between Cardiff and Birmingham.
The fibre was repaired: broken bit removed, new fibre installed and fusion spliced into existing fibre. I'm sure VM will be investigating why the fibre break had such profound effects. There shouldn't be a single point of failure or a single place where a fibre cut can cause such issues however this happens to everyone from BT downwards. Records of fibre routes are imperfect. |

Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
it must have been a west side of the country thing. I am in the east and had no probs at all last night. I was gaming quite happily while all this was happening and didn't notice a thing.
|
Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
West side? I'm dead in the centre of the south coast and I suffered all of the outage.Even so it is an unusual occurrence these days.

Looks from various people's TBB graphs that many suffered massive latency and/or moderate packet loss but not a complete connectivity loss. ---------- Post added at 12:24 ---------- Previous post was at 12:21 ---------- Quote:

Bit of a bump in the graph in Leeds around that time, but nothing major.

Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
It was a fibre break affecting multiple ISP's. Move along.

I called Vlad and he said yes of course it was his side that took out VM in the South. He said he couldn't resist it because all the TBBs would turn red!

Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
Superhub couldn't even download it's config during the outage so even if the rest of VM's core was up and there was an alternate path to the internet it seems the provisioning servers (tftp?) were reachable for some.
SH2 fell back to docsis2 mode, locked a single channel and then had network access denied in the operations status. Infact I had to reboot it the morning to get it to wake up again. |

Whereas the SH2ac recovered by itself. |
Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
Mine is the SH2ac, sorry I was being lazy.
It was however in modem only mode as I have it feeding a LRT224 at the moment (Over powerline :nutter:) Actually manage to get the 152M out of it as well  |
Re: Has VM HQ been taken out by Putin?
We had a total failure of all BB services in here in Rossendale\Lancashire.
Eventually the TIVO started getting netflix etc back but the SH2 was still not getting any upstream. Eventually (3 days later) its back on after an engineer came & changed the month old SH2 :( So far it's not looking good being back on VM. |
