Minorly interesting thing with my sh2
 

So I've just bought an Asus RT-AC87U to use instead of my sh2's router.

Found out today in Speedtests that I was getting 45mb/s up and 12 mb/s down instead of my normal 152/12. I tried plugging my PC briefly directly into the sh2 and got the same result.

When i looked at the sh2 it had a solid pink power light instead of the normal blue. A reboot fixed this and got the speed back.

Just curious what this pink light is. A reasonably extensive trawl of the internet could not find any reference. I guess it is an error of some sort. Just surprising to have a perfectly working upload and around 1/3rd (very, very consistent) of the download.

Sounds like the modem was only locked onto one channel, a fairly common fault. No idea about the pink light though. I thought that was normal for modem mode?

Yeah, when I first saw the pink light I thought I remembered that too, so I ignored it. But for sure when I first set up modem mode the light was blue and it is again now (all working fine through my router), so I really don't know anymore!

I am not much use because I am colour blind but I am sure I have got 3 blue lights on my shub and not pink. On is power, one is the link (tick) and the other is traffic.

I'm guessing but it's probably blue and red being lit at the same time. I've only seen blue and green as signals but maybe there's a red LED there as well?

As to what it means probably only the programmers know.

:D, yeah maybe.

Funny think is I looked at the Router Status. There wasn't much left once you go into modem mode, but I'd swear I had 8 downstream channels locked as I do now. I did wonder if the problem might be caused by changing router without rebooting the modem, which stupidly I am pretty sure I did. But still, that's an odd way for it to have responded.

Let's just assume it's a random one off!

np dude, we have got to get these things right. I need to watch through them all again. I used to do it once a year but I missed it last year. The movies are also very very good as well, especially In the Beginning which falls in with the series perfectly. If I won the euromillions I would fund another movie and get all the cast back and rebuild all the sets and do it properly. The two episodes which they released back in 2007 were pants.

Really no idea what the pink light means. Anyone?

It has come back on my sh2 and I thought maybe the old problem had returned, but a speedtest shows all is good. Just seems it comes on after "a while" at the moment!

I think the pink light just means both LED's were on at the same time? As in, it doesn't mean anything other than it hasn't booted correctly.

Hmm, maybe I should get an engineer to take a look. The pink/red light seems to come and go on mine, although, apart from that one time when I was only getting 1/3rd speed, things seem otherwise good.

Yeah, but then maybe it IS broke :)
Seriously, if something is warning me with a big red light that it isn't happy I'd prefer to do something rather than wait for things to get worse. But what I'll do is monitor it for a few days and see if the light comes and goes and run some tests when it's on. Hopefully, we'll get to the bottom of it.
