Mobile contract ending soon
My mobile contract ends this month, and I'm currently paying just over £15 per month for 500mb, 250 minutes and unlimited texts. The nearest tariff to this with VM was £17pm but with only 250mb. I've had a shop around and Tesco are offering the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime for £13.50pm for a 1000 minutes (4g), 5000 texts and 500mb. OK, you have to pay for the phone over the two years which is included in the £13.50 but it reduces after two years. Oh, and you get a £20 Tesco voucher;) I don't think VM will be able to match this?

Re: Mobile contract ending soon
If your phone is OK, go SIM only with Tesco; for £7.50 I get 250 mins, 5000 texts and 500Mb data. The network is good too as it's O2

Mobile Contract
Do VM contact you when your mobile contract is due to end?
|
Re: Mobile Contract
No they don't. It just goes to a rolling 30 day contract until you call them.
|
Re: Mobile contract ending soon
Or have a look at the pay monthly sim only cash back deals through e2save.co.uk - some of the O2 ones are very tempting at the moment.

Threads merged. No need to start a second thread on the same topic.

Re: Mobile contract ending soon
I have two phones with VM. The one I use costs £6 per month and gives me 250 mins, unlimited texts and 1GB data. The other which my wife has costs £12 per month and has unlimited mins and texts and 1GB data . These are on the freestyle tariff

Re: Mobile contract ending soon
When I give 30 days notice this weekend, and ask for a PAC code, do they email it to you, as I guess it's important that it's correct.
|
Re: Mobile contract ending soon
Can I go into a Virgin store, give 30 days notice to end my contract and ask for a PAC code?. Contract ends one month from today. 789 not available today.
|
Re: Mobile contract ending soon
789 works for me?
The store would just put you through to the retentions team I think. Best to call. |
Re: Mobile contract ending soon
Yes, 789 does work for me but when I rang and pressed the option about ending contracts, the recorded message told me that they were closed till tomorrow, and my contract ends 30 days from today. Will try again tomorrow. Thanks.

Re: Mobile contract ending soon
Just spoke to someone about cancelling my contrcat, and obviously he tried to dissuade me. He offered me the LGL90 phone at a good monthly rate. Has anyone got this phone and could let me know what it's like please?

Re: Mobile contract ending soon
Being honest, considering the price point of the LG L90, I'd ask for a Moto G as it is the same price on the Virgin website and is a better phone overall.
Edit: Seems they may be out of stock on that, so either the Moto E 2nd Gen, or Xperia M2 are alternatives, but all have a pretty low end screen and I would honestly try to pay a few £ more to get one that will be better for the contract length. They have the Sony Xperia Z1 compact for £15pm on the site (The LG is £10pm) and is a cracker for the price (1280x720 screen, much better processor and likely battery life), if you can get a few quid knocked off whatever contract you're looking for it'll be a better option in all honesty. |

Thanks, I'll have a look at the Sony ---------- Post added at 11:34 ---------- Previous post was at 10:56 ---------- I've had a look and I think I'm going for this one which is what I had in mind before VM made me those other offers. It has all I want for £13.50 per month with Anytime Upgrade facilities. http://shop.tescomobile.com/pay-mont...ime?deal=20184 |

800x480 screen. My HTC Desire had that resolution screen 5 years ago and was an inch smaller so had a markedly better dpi. Honestly, it's barely worth having a smartphone at that resolution. It's a shame as the phone uses a Snapdragon 410 which is pretty decent for that end of the market. |
Re: Mobile contract ending soon
I wouldn't go for that phone at all. Poor very very low end specs.

Re: Mobile contract ending soon
Ok. Thanks for your help guys. I went back to VM and they virtually matched the Tesco offer(apart from the data mb, which is 250 and not 500) but i don't use much anyway and they offered me the Samsung S4 Mini. What do you think?
|
Re: Mobile contract ending soon
Much better choice of phone. My wife has that and its a great little phone.
It might be pushing it but they also have the S5 mini for only a few quid more each month. Or the full size Sony Xperia Z2. |
Re: Mobile contract ending soon
Indeed, I'll be pushing for an S5 mini, that Z1 compact, or the Z2. Again the S4 mini isn't too bad, but is a bit outdated now too with a slower chip than the Core Prime.
|
Re: Mobile contract ending soon
The S5 mini sounds great but it's too much for me. I think I'll go for the S4 Mini. One further question. My present phone has a standard size SIM card in it. I notice that the S4 mini comes with a micro SIM. Not sure what I have to do, or whether the phone will come with my present number on the new SIM card. I am upgrading, so not too sure about this.

Re: Mobile contract ending soon
I am in the process of dumping EE, as I have taken out 3 contracts with O2.
The reason, which is worth considering yourself is coverage. At home and work my EE phone bearly gets a signal, whereas my O2 phone (Note 4) has a strong HSPA signal (no 4G yet at work, home has 4G). So consider that. |
Re: Mobile contract ending soon
They will usually send you a new micro sim automatically with an upgrade. You just send a text from the old sim and within a few minutes the new sim is activated with your number and the old sim stops working.
Instructions are included. |

Re: Mobile contract ending soon
Just awaiting delivery of my new phone. I know once I put my gmail address in, it will transfer my contacts, diary etc, but how do I transfer my google apps from my old phone to my new one please?
|
Re: Mobile contract ending soon
It will be in the Play store under My Apps, install from there. Or if it is anything like when I reset my phone to factory it will install them automatically for you.
|
Re: Mobile contract ending soon
Some apps might download automatically.
But all you would need to do if they don't is go to Google Play and select My Apps > All and select and download those apps you want. |
Re: Mobile contract ending soon
Got my new phone now, but just a couple of queries. Firstly I have the system sounds switched off yet I still get that annoying jingle when I switch the phone on. How do I stop this, and despite sending the new SIM change text to 789678 and getting an error message and then calling 789 as well, my new SIM card still doesn't work and it's almost 24 hours since I did it. Should I call them again?

Re: Mobile contract ending soon
just found out mine ended a few months ago , do I just cancel the direct debit or phone them , also what happens to the phone do I keep it or send it back, seeing I have been paying for two years should think I would be entitled to keeping it
|
Re: Mobile contract ending soon
You just carry on paying the contract if you are happy with the phone and tariff. If not and you want to cancel or upgrade, then call them. You can do what you want with the phone. I have 2 of them sat in a drawer in my room. If you cancel the contract, Virgin will be able to advise when is best to cancel a DD. Don't cancel it until talking to Virgin, otherwise they will pass the account onto debt collectors, even if it is for a small amount of money.
