TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

The average size of a TV in 2014 was 39", up from the 2013 average of 37.5"

http://www.rapidtvnews.com/201501023...#axzz3PppKQa5R

How big is your primary set? Are those upgrading opting for a bigger screen?

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

Mine is 40 inch, and, TBH, is fine for my living room.

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

32" CRT, keeping it old school until it breaks and I'm forced to upgrade

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

42", that's the recommended size for my living room, so when it dies I won't go for anything bigger, I'm happy with it (Panasonic Plasma), it's only a few years old.

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

42" and won't go any bigger. Nothing worse than seeing a 50"+ TV in a small / medium sized room.

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

Mine's a 32" and I bought it when I moved in. All of the "smart" workload is handled by the Bluray player and satellite reciever, so the TV itself is only really a monitor.

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

The poll needs tweaking ;)

If you've got a 35" or 40" TV, there are actually two valid answers in the poll

If you've got a 46" to 49" TV, there is no valid answer

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

A family near us just bought a 50" smart TV. I know because the box it came in was leant against their front wall for days like an advert to thieves. Now they advertise it by watching it with the curtains wide open.

I living room is home to a 32" I saved 10 months for.

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

We have a 32" TV as we have a tapered sitting room corner which won't allow for a bigger one.

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

Just this weekend got a new 40" to replace the old 32" which died after 7 years, had been playing up for a while now so was not totally unexpected.

Looks rather large at the moment, but it fits in pretty much the same space as the old one due to having a very narrow bezel and no speaker grills along the bottom.

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

I need a bigger one say 50 incher because the old eye sight is getting worse - either that or a pair of binoculars to read whats on.

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

We went for 42" 1080P last year as we both have eyesight that's not getting any clearer. It fits comfortably in the bay window. Viewing distance about 12 feet.

Replaced a 28" 4:3 CRT.

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

We have a 23ft X 20ft sitting room so opted for a 48" smart TV which allows us to sit where we want and still see the screen in all its glory. (As it is over the 40" - 45" selection I voted in the higher section :) ... does this amount to bragging :D :D :D )

The box looked massive so was glad when the delivery guy took it away with him. Oh and it's the first TV that we have had to install with a brace to stop it being pulled over by a toddler.

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

42" Toshiba LCD, 7 years old - big enough for now.

When my lad moves out, I may give it to him, and the replacement will probably be 48" - anything bigger would dominate the lounge too much.....

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

We have a 42" LG LCD bought 6 years ago and still going strong in the living room don't think I would go much bigger as our living room is only 15ft 10ins x 14ft 10ins. Some of the neighbours have 50" and IMO it takes over their living room although hubby would argue that as he would love a bigger tv.

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

Our main TV is a 46" Samsung 3D LCD and its great.

Bedroom has a 37" Panasonic.

Tweaked the poll slightly too.

80" although that's not a TV, it's a HD Projector. We use it in place of a TV because we don't have a TV.

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

We've got a 40" which is more than big enough.
The average UK home living room isn't big enough to need anything bigger.

At work we have just bought some 65" TV's to use as information screens. They are massive!

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

My main TV is a 40" Samsung.

My bedroom TV is a 32" 3D Samsung TV which I have connected a 3D Blu-Ray player.

The reason why?

Because that the largest TVs that will fit where they can be positioned.

My bro last year bought a 65" Sony 4k for his living room. The room is 20 foot long so sits far from it.

Remember the days when you thought your 15" monitor was the bomb!

And you were so jealous of someone with a weighs like an elephant 20" monitor.

CRTs were awesome and they kept you warm during the winter... they should have given these out to OAPs to reduce their bills, so they could survive the winter.

We have a 40" Sony; I recently looked at a 42" Sony Smart TV which was physically smaller that my 40". Decided I couldn't justify it as the old one works fine so bought a £40 Smart Blu-Ray instead!

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

We have a 28" CRT and that's fine for our room as although it's a fair size it's shape means most people are not far from the screen.

Costco used to have a 152" beastie but don't list it anymore.

alferret 27-01-2015 14:56

42" 1080p LG is our main TV, I am looking at getting a 50" soon'ish (if I can get top office to agree) it's over 4 years old, has a superb picture but the sound let's it down.
37" 1080p Sharp Aquos in the bedroom this TV is about 7 years old and has a dodgy main board that sometimes requires one to keep pushing the power button a few times to get it to power on.

I remember having to carry a 21inch Iiyama monitor up four flights of stairs because the manager in the building thought that ONLY disabled users should be able to use the lift, and actually, had the lift call buttons replaced with switches that require a special key, and instructed her staff to give the key ONLY to disabled students.

The irritating part is that we'd actually bought the monitor to *help* a partially sighted (ie disabled) student.

I had a helper, and we are both big, strong men. We were still knackered, and wanted a drink when we finished. Which, of course meant going back down the the ground floor because we weren't allowed any drink making facilities (kettle, fridge, running water).

My LCD monitor(s) still generate enough heat that I have to open my windows during the winter, even with the heating off and -5'c outside.

Electric heating using a monitor (CRT or otherwise) would only increase your bill, not reduce it.

Yeah I know it was a bit of satire to emphasise that they ran pretty damn hot :P

On the plus side, I didn't need to go to the gym that night. :D

We have several buildings on that campus, and thankfully the rules are a little less restrictive in the other buildings. They don't ban non disabled users of the lifts, but they do ask that disabled users are given priority, which is fair.

Heh, yeah, but I have actually thought about it seriously a few times.

If you had non-storage electric heating then the net effect would be negligible, any other heating method involving a thermostat would cost more using the CRTs :p:

32 here, any bigger and it will get knocked over.

Re: TV's are getting bigger: How big is yours?

Biggest TV I ever had was a 32 inch SONY CRT, that sucker was HUGE & heavy, wow was it ever heavy.

Current living room TV is a 50 inch Smart LED, much bigger would be too big, if wall mounted could prob go to to 60 or so.
Modern TV's have a lot thinner bezels so you can get a bigger screen for not much increased footprint.
Noticeable in bigger screens is how crap a lot of TV programs look, in SD with artefacts & blurring, you don't tend to notice so much on smaller screens.
Bedrooms a 37 inch, which fits nice, could go to a 44, but that'll wait until this one breaks. Kids rooms/dining room have 32 inches which fit well.

I have a 46" Plasma in my front room.

The biggest CRT I ever had was a 32", and boy was that heavy.

I have a 32" LG 1080p in the living room i got in Boxing day Sales in 2009 with £150 off.

In my and my sons bedroom we both have the same cheapo 32" Tesco own brand which is just 720p but picture is good enough for the bedroom.
