Who Owns Virgin Media?
 
According To wikipedia it saids Liberty Global but i thought it was richard branson

Branson has never owned VM. Broadly speaking NTL:Telewest bought the right to use the Virgin Mobile name and it went from there IIRC.

Just like the trains and money side, Branson only leases the Virgin name to them. He has no say in the way the company is run. It still surprises me that people think Branson runs all these Virgin companies.

Correct. Dickie boy get around £30million in his sky rocket every year for the use of his brand.

NTL:Telewest was owned by many people. big movers were the Huffs IIRC

Virgin Media was sold to John Malone, and is now a subsidiary of Liberty Global. It is not a company in its own right anymore.

I think there is some set criteria from Virgin Group that they have to meet though

Well I think people thought Branson owned the company as it uses his name and also he was always on the adverts and in publicity.

He was given a percentage share in the company among other things. I think to a point he was involved in the company because when the VM branding first started he toured all the VM office sites.

Yeah, he was given that in return for his controlling stake in Virgin Mobile rather than for use of the name per se - rather than using cash ntl:Telewest bought his 72% of Virgin Mobile with shares in the new combined group.

When the Sky channels were pulled in the carriage dispute, Sky One was changed to Sky Gone, Sky News was changed to Sky Snooze etc. Branson is said to be the one behind having the names changed back as he thought it was a childish act by VM.
