Cab with Bent Roof.

The large VM cab supplying our area (I think it's probably the one with all the fibre terminating kit in) has a bent roof at one end, so either someones tried to prise it off or it's been damaged in the high winds :erm:

Looking in the Cap it looks like there is still a solid flat panel underneath so i Don't think water can get into the cab (Even if there wasn't it would require the rain to be going almost sideways) Either way Is it worth trying to report to VM and are they likely to care enough to do something about it?

Reported so many open cabs in my time there and nothing was ever done about it. They'd rather wait until there was a fault.

My local cabinet was hit by a vehicle many months ago. It's a total wreck, covered in tarpaulin (until someone decides to steal the tarpaulin). We're going to lose telephone service for a whole day in a weeks time, as they have finally decided to replace it.

Another cabinet has had the lock removed, so the doors won't stay shut. I've reported it several times, but no repair yet.

I guess it must depend on where you live. I've reported cabinets open or damaged and they've been fixed pretty quickly.

Cmon people didn't you know it takes 3 months+ to fix everything.

Heres a fault reference number, please call back in 3 months to see if we have extended it or not :P

Bent is only homophobic to homophobes.

Did you report it. If not and its still damaged pm me the Number on the side of it and i will report it to networks for that area.

Our local bashed cabinet was replaced on Wednesday, and yesterday our phone service was returned. Three and a half days...

I tried to report the line as dead on Thursday.... but woke to found our internet connection dead too. Our close neighbours also had dead VM phone lines, so a £1.50 call to a VM 0800 number to get it sorted.

Appreciate this is bordering off-topic, but howcome that call cost you £1.50? I'm assuming calling from a mobile, in which case http://www.0800buster.co.uk/ is worth bookmarking.

Re: Cab with Bent Roof.

Calling the number I got a warning that calls to 0800 numbers are chargeable. I couldn't look at the website to find an alternative as the internet was down. It took me ages to find ANY contact number for VM that actually worked despite being in brand new telephone directories and listings.

Once I got through there was a whole chain of "press 1 for... yada yada" that pushed the cost up and up. I think it was actually the most expensive call I have EVER made in the 10 years I have had this phone!

0800 calls from a mobile are normally charged.

It just seems wrong to me that a fault reporting number should be chargeable. Especially on the own network. :(

Did you try to report it on the VM forum?

The forums only work for non-urgent issues. They have a 5 day turnaround, I believe, in that VM staff won't even look at your post until its 5 days old, I think someone said in the past.

A dead line I would class as 'urgent'.

What really annoys me about this is that they refuse to provide a geographic or 03xx number which is included in mobile call plans. Plus some of their associates say they will give you a credit for the call cost, but never actually (in my experience) do so.

Perhaps. If it's any help, soon 0800 numbers will be free from all mobiles as well.

Ummm... my internet connection was down too. :dozey:

I have found an 0345 number for faults this morning, but cannot find what the call costs would be.

03 is the same cost as any 01 or 02 number, and should be included in any call cost bundles you have

0800 numbers have always been free from my mobile.

Re: Cab with Bent Roof.

Geeky I know, but all manner of "emergency" numbers are permanently stored in my mobile - gas, leccy, traffic lights, VM-CS etc etc.

And I use one of the 0800-buster numbers for any of those numbers, all pre-stored. Experience has taught me that when you need to call them, you're invariably not able to hunt out the number.

I wonder if 789 from a Virgin mobile will get me through to Virgin Media faults?

I bet that will see the start of the companies changing from 0800 to 0845 or 0345. :dozey:

Companies aren't allowed to do that. Plus 0845 and 0345 will be free from inclusive minutes anyway.

Quite - the consumer protection regulations insist that "enquiries regarding an existing service" must be available on a standard rate number - meaning free or landline-rate from landlines, or 01/02/03/07 from mobiles.

Mind, on what do you base 084x being inclusive? I'm not entirely sure that bit's right...

Why would it? They have absolutely nothing to gain from that.

Most networks have had 0845 and/or 0870 inclusive at one point and with OFCOM regulating those numbers along with 0800 later this year several networks have already re-added them to bundles. I suspect the rest don't want to be left behind.

Milambar 02-02-2015 08:32

Re: Cab with Bent Roof.

Having read through those OFCOM proposed regulations, I don't really see how they can call that 'simplifying'.

Currently you just look up the call cost, per minute. Be that with BT or with VM or wherever.

If the regulations are imposed as they seem to be written, you will have to find out the 'service charge' from the company providing the service, and then look up a seperate 'access charge' from your own telecoms provider, then add them together...

This is not simplifying IMHO, and will lead to confusion with a lot of people.

They lose money on 0800 but make money on 0845?

Our local GP went to 0870, but 0800 for test results.

Then the test results service went to an 0870 number, and most boycotted it, preferring to join the long queues every day from 11:30 to 12:00 to get their results.

Rumour has it that their number will soon be an 03** number.

Yes but this has always been the case, why would mobile operators making 0800 free as well have any impact?

VM forum told me to check with 150 that the telephone downtime was reimbursed. It hadn't, so a manual refund was done, Ditto for the BB downtime. And I was refunded the 0800 phone call.

And for some reason I was offered £3 off for the next 6 months. Glad of it. :)
