Ukip councillor: immigration ‘overload’ has made UK racist.
It's the gift that keeps giving.
"The Ukip leadership has moved to distance the party from remarks by one of its councillors claiming an “overload” of immigrants had turned Britain into a racist country. Trevor Shonk, who represents Ukip on Kent county council and Ramsgate town council, blamed Labour and the Conservatives for allowing in more immigrants than the country could cope with. “The two main parties that have been running this country have made the country racist because of the influx that we have had,” he told BBC Radio 4’s The World at One." He's got a point.

He has.

Re: Ukip councillor: immigration ‘overload’ has made UK racist.
We're not racist. we're just fed up.
|
Re: Ukip councillor: immigration ‘overload’ has made UK racist.
That too. Austerity would have been bad enough with the population we already had, without adding more and more economic migrants of all types to our numbers, whether they be black, white, yellow or purple.

but I have to admit I do prefer the pink ones. I don't like the green ones though. there's something not right about them. they need looking at. |
Re: Ukip councillor: immigration ‘overload’ has made UK racist.
If we can't have a system which only allows the ones we really want and need (points system, Australian style), then we must at lest be better at filtering out the complete undesirables, and not letting them slip through the net until they can scream "Human rights" because they now have a family.
It would, of course, be fair if we faced similar rules from other countries - in fact, it's a far more sensible solution than the current EU insanity! The EU is too broken to fix, and will never give us back enough sovereignty - if our leaders ever have the backbone to stand up for the "red lines", then we will have to leave the EU. |
Re: Ukip councillor: immigration ‘overload’ has made UK racist.
Well I have no issues with immigration..I just hate the way we lose those who are the best of our citizens to emigration..

The influx of immigrants, I believe, has changed people's attitudes for the worse. May not have made them "racist" as that is a very strong word, but I would say more intolerant. Which is why he has a point. |
Re: Ukip councillor: immigration ‘overload’ has made UK racist.
I would agree with you that a section of society feel that way - it is reflected in this forum.

Re: Ukip councillor: immigration ‘overload’ has made UK racist.
A Czech Roma family that lived near me has just completed their 9th housemove in the UK in 7 years, and are already thinking about moving again.
The father told me they have to keep moving due to the attitudes of their neighbours towards the Roma. He also said that the feelings towards Roma were getting worse all over the UK, especially in schools and workplaces. "Too many Roma are coming here" explained his wife, "And not only good ones, they are giving us a bad name". They arrived here with a single child. Number 7 is due in June next year. The 2 boys in the middle are absolute terrors, and their parents know it! |
Re: Ukip councillor: immigration ‘overload’ has made UK racist.
"Number 7" wtf?! :erm:
What kind of job does he have that he can afford to have 7 kids? |
Re: Ukip councillor: immigration ‘overload’ has made UK racist.
He had a short period working as a labourer in a brick factory, the rest of the time he's been "a cleaner". Their biggest income (I know, because I used to help him with their bills) were child-related benefits, and that was 3 kids ago!
And yes, they have a huge TV, satellite TV (not for UK programmes), gas-guzzling car, lots of gold jewelry, plenty of branded sportswear and a large drinks cabinet. And a lot of outstanding bills, both here and back home, using various identities that he and his wife have. He has already spent time in prison after being arrested on the border into the Czech Republic for credit fraud. He had to hitchhike back to Dover after that incarceration. And they are one of the nice families! All their other friends are crooks... and he's the one who describes them as such! |

It was only when his Roma "friends and family" started turning up demanding his hospitality (alcohol and food) that things started to get a bit weary. Then it was a constant stream of Roma DEMANDING I find the "cheap flights" to and from the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania. That got old quick. The last straw for the landlord was when his in-laws drank all his booze during one of the many all-nighters they pulled at his place, then took offence at something and threw him through a window..... and started to beat him with a glass-studded piece of window frame. After they moved away, It was an almost weekly thing to get a car full of rough Roma turn up at our place DEMANDING cheap flights or help with documentation. I think my name was taken off their list after a few months. Recently a group of the most scary Roma I have ever seen were very menacing DEMANDING his address when I was at a market. Security stepped-in luckily. |

Re: Ukip councillor: immigration ‘overload’ has made UK racist.
I have always tried to find the good in people and not tar them all with the same brush. Sometimes it pays off and good friendships or relationships have developed, but I have been burned quite a few times, usually by people who think they should behave like their stereotypes. Those are the types that seem to be in the majority of recent immigrants in our area, shunned and often detested by their peers.
And that is why the recent immigration "overload" appears to be having a "racist" backlash. Here in Cardiff it's obviously aimed at Kurds (of many nationalities) and Roma (of many nationalities), not at all the Polish, Pakistanis, Chinese, Somalian or whatever. |

"The drinking in the street, gathering in large groups and rowdiness" certainly seems to be part of British culture in some quarters.

I think the point my partner was making is that even their less undesirable traits do not fit in well with the local culture. The following link refers to asylum seekers but for some reason they also want to come to Wales, particularly Cardiff and Newport. If it were simply cheap accommodation they would be going into the valley towns, I believe much of it is down to the Labour government of Wales being a softer touch. http://paulflynnmp.typepad.com/my_we...-are-bein.html http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/new...___Newport_MP/ It comes to something when a Labour MP is complaining about it! |

Flynn's comments are merely pointing out what certain individuals want to ignore. The coalition are engaging in social engineering - a charge they love to level at Labour. How many thousands of lower paid and unemployed have been forced out of London? |

The Roma culture is not the same, they do have a reputation for stealing and mugging but that's not what I'm on about. I'm talking about their softer cultural habits that is normal day life for them every day of the week, every week of the year (Except when it's too cold) because it's the culture they have grown up with. I think low pay and unemployment is a separate issue, London has it's problems but so do I also think we have them in Wales for different reasons. Low pay is loved in Wales by the government, keeping people down keeps them voting for certain parties. There really appears to be a level of hatred for those doing well for themselves in South Wales, and doing well for themselves often means an income that can be less than some families receive claiming benefits. |
