New TV advice in a hurry
 

I'm down at Asda, and they have some reduced TVs. Ours is getting rather tired and I'm wondering which, if any, of the one in front of me might be a good buy.

There is:

LG 42LB55 1V, a 42" LED set, was £339, now £299.99
Samsung UE28H4000AW, 28" LED, was £250, now £199.
Panny Viera TX-32A400B, 32" LED, was £310, now £249.
Tosh 40L2433D, 40" LED backlit, was £319, now £299.
Samsung UE48H5000AK 48" LED, was £634, now £449.
Panny Viera TX-50A400B, 50" LED, was £538, now £419.

What are the relative merits of these and which is the best value? Are any of them worth an impulse buy? We were considering replacing our existing set within about 12 months. If I wait and browse online am I likely to find something better?

I'm guessing these are probably end of line, but that doesn't bother me (you should see the thing we have now).

Oh, and if I take home anything bigger than 42" without a planet-stopping excuse, Mrs T will kill me. :erm: :D

Purely on a personal basis I use a variety of samsungs from 21 to 40 inches and find them reliable, easy to use and with good picture quality.

I'm a Viera fan... much better picture IMHO.

Not this one, it got a pretty awful review by AV Forum.

Just going by the label can end in bad times. Honestly, all of them look pretty awful. If you have to go for either the LG, Toshiba or Panasonic at a push but none of them would actually be of much use.

I'd be looking online if you want a bargain as frankly, none of those are and most can be found for comparable prices online.

re bold.. most probably. wait until you get home :p: tbh none of them look value for money imo. add a little extra and buy something worthwhile online. what was you doing black friday ?

Personally I'd go for the LG, but it really depends on how big a TV you want. IMO 28" is rather small, I prefer 40 or 42.

Well, I didn't buy one. I sat in the cafe and made use of their free WiFi to have a quick look about, and very quickly realised that all those models are available elsewhere at similar prices. In a couple of cases the 'was' price in Asda was way above the standard price online.

No bother, as I said, I'm in no hurry.

But Mrs T thanks you all for not egging me on. :D

28" is fine in our front room and it's not that small. Don't want something that dominates the room.

My room is a bit bigger than a broom cupboard. :D

I know this is a bit if a late reply but just on a personal point. We have an lg, it's 5 years old and hasn't missed a beat, very good picture, lots of features and is a smart TV, sound is ok but not brilliant, but for longevity, extremely pleased.
Our in-laws have just got a 55" panny, the picture and features are head and shoulders above anything I have seen within the price range.
Stay away from Sharp.
Samsung are pretty good as are Sony.
Just read some reviews on the lg you listed on tvdirect/reevoo (i think) and they are pretty favourable. At the end if the day they are that price for a reason, over stocking, not selling due to??? Over priced, lots if reasons. But at that price point the lg would have been a good choice.

It all depends as my sight has slowly got worse so we prefer a bigger TV in our main room.

I have a good question for you. My wife has ordered a 55in
LG tv from a catalogue.

They have delivered twice a LG 50. 126cm screen can someone tell me the correct details i.e. cm for a 55in. As believe they r trying to for us off..

126cm is 50 inches Arthur. If your missus ordered a 55ins telly, then they should deliver one that is 55ins, which in centimetres would be 139.7, so probably quoted as 140cm.

TV model numbers often incorporate the screen size in inches. What was the model number in the catalogue, and what is the model number on the box you have received? On the box, the model number may be on a sticker on the side, with a barcode and other information.

Cheers Chris, this is what l found. The picker at the warehouse has stuck a sticker saying. '55 LG580V' BUT on the box by the barcode. It clearly states 50LG580V on the box with 50 in brackets ( ). And 126cm under the 50. We have had deliveries twice, we have complained. This has been two weeks.

BUT we want a 55inches - this what l want for Xmas.

Something fishy is going on. Does the item in the catalogue have a model number, just to absolutely confirm that you ordered a 55 ins set? Or do you have the details on a receipt or invoice?

In the catalogue it clearly states the catalogue number is the same, BUT it states 50 - 55 - 60 before the code.

On the invoice it clearly states that l should have a 55 in tv at a cost of £1.149.00 which is the cat price. For a 50in tv it's £500.00. T his is why I was double checking everything

It's not unusual to get a cockup where somebody has stuck the wrong label on a product at the warehouse. If it's happened twice it's likely they've done it to all of them.

Time for a phone call to their 'help' centre, in that case. As Qasi says, if they have mislabelled a load of them in the warehouse, someone needs to actively check you're getting the right set, otherwise they'll keep sending you 50ins ones until January.
