New Nexus 6 & 9 Announced along with Android Lollipop

New Nexus Hardware

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-29635958

I was thinking about an unlocked Nexus 6 but at £409 it is too much for a phone so its the Moto G 2014 at £145 from Amazon with a £7 a month sim when my contracted S3 with VM ends or perhaps VM may do a contract as they had the original Moto G

New Android Lollipop

Looks good and the Moto G 2014 will get it shortly too.

I highly doubt it will be that cheap in the UK.

Looks like a great bit of kit though.

No thanks. I'd prefer stock android over cyanagen or however you spell it.

The nexus 9 is still a great price when you look at the specs and still cheaper than an iPad.

Urgh. Oversized and expensive. I was holding out for the upcoming Nexus because previous iterations were neither.

I bought my wife a MOTO G 2014 and it's ideal. The screen size is as big as I want in a phone. The phone is very responsive with only a few Motorola Apps on top of the stock Android 4.4 firmware unlike my current S3 which has so much bloat from Samsung it just slows it down!

Coupled with the price it's a steal.

Still more than my pocket can afford..So if my Nexus needs replacing then I'll have to find an alternative..

Waiting until March for my next phone from O2.

I wonder they'll have the Nexus 9 as well as the 6 and I could ask for a package deal from them!

I was all for getting the new Nexus phone until i realised it was a massive 6 inches!!! which in my opinion is far too big, so i will look for an small alternative now.

^^ This.

I'll be getting a Xperia Z3 compact, despite it's rubbish screen resolution it's a sane size and has all the other top end features of the Z3

I have the Z3c it's a cracking phone for those of us that don't want a breeze block sized device, it's 720p so ideal for that size screen plus with the battery saving benefits, I can get a good 1.5 days out of mine despite hammering it. Just make sure you get a case, as the rear is glass.

I also had the 2013 moto G which will get android L very soon, this wasn't a bad performer either, although the 1 GB of RAM was a drawback, it'll be interesting to see what the new Android will do with that.

I have a Z2 and to be honest the screen size is ok, I would have got the Nexus 6 but the screen size is to big.

Won't be having another Sony phone due to poor build quality, phone breaks after being knocked off a arm of a chair on to a carpeted floor from about 2ft.

I have a upgrade coming in about 3 or 4 months and I am waiting to see if HTC bring anything good out then.

I have used a HTC phone for years and years, from the Desire, to Sensation and now the One X Plus. I hope they can produce a decent phone next year, hopefully powered by the Snapdragon 810 just in time for my upgrade.

If not, this looks like a winner. The fact that it'll get timely Android updates helps as HTC have had a habit otf being slow to update their phones and abandoning them in the case of the One X Plus before they were supposed to.

The One M8 is actually a really good phone that they've already released http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pho...1235307/review

Also HTC are a lot better than they were with Android updates

We will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) worldwide within 90 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly thereafter by other One family members and select devices.
And maintain a UK specific page http://www.htc.com/uk/go/htc-software-updates/

Personally I think it's Samsung that are the ones that are falling behind when it comes to timely updates and it's one of the things I'll have to consider when I can upgrade next year.

Indeed, the One M8 is awesome, but by the time I go to upgrade it should be replaced.

I want an 810 powered phone for the 64bit support that comes with Lollipop for a bit of extra futureproofing. I wouldn't be unhappy with the One as it is to not be changed much design wise as it is gorgeous and just add the latest toys really.

As for the update front, I'm glad they are finally getting on track. The One X+ had a vague promise of being supported for at least 2 updates of Android. We got 4.2, then when 4.3 HTC claimed that Nvidia didn't let them, or something. That stung a bit, although I'm now using a AOSP 4.4 ROM so hey ho.

Re: New Nexus 6 & 9 Announced along with Android Lollipop

Yeah, popular devices tend to have big community support keeping them up to date with AOSP builds or Cyanogenmod builds, etc. for years after the manufacturer abandons them. It's not ideal as you lose some manufacturer proprietary goodies, but on the other hand I dislike most of them anyway and some community firmwares have even more features.
