The Walking Dead

A return to the gory days it seems but failed to adequately explain the Sanctuary. I'm guessing that'll be spread through the next few episodes but what an anti-climatic ending, in my opinion Morgan didn't play a big enough part in previous episodes for it to be a 'wow' moment.

Pierre 13-10-2014 23:35

Re: The Walking Dead season 5

That was freakin' amazing.

Based off the series trailer,

Obviously they must tie up with that Gareth again somewhere along the line and they either go to DC or back to Atlanta, as there is a cityscape in the trailer.

Tbh if Morgan has a proper role, it'll be like having a new character as he's only been in about 3-4 eps.

But for zombie killing mayhem that episode was hard to beat.

alferret 14-10-2014 07:22

Enjoyed the opening 10 minutes or so, pretty graphic and well executed (pun intended) then it settled down into its usual.

This TV show has moments of genius.

If they keep giving us endings like that to each episode then this series will be much better than the last.

Pierre 29-10-2014 10:49

Re: The Walking Dead season 5

3 for 3, the great start continues.

I'm a little confused though because in the Series 5 trailer there was a scene where Gareth says "let's go to DC and cure this thing"

I haven't seen that scene yet, and as seen a Rick just machete'd him, looks like we wont.

Re: The Walking Dead

Just awful. I can't stand episodes with a disjointed storyline, flashforwards, flashbacks, slow-mo flickering camera work etc.

I reckon they'd just hired some pretentious writer fresh out of university who wanted to make it look 'artistic' but failed miserably. Why they can't just do a 'normal' episode is beyond me.

Not watched it yet, doesn't bode well by the sounds of it.

Horizon 10-02-2015 02:05

Re: The Walking Dead

I agree it was disjointed to begin with but the arty, flashback way it was filmed all made sense by the end of the ep. An absolute brilliant bit of telly in my opinion. In fact one of the best eps ever.

Tezcatlipoca 10-02-2015 03:32

Re: The Walking Dead

I don't think that it was very disjointed. It was just that bit at the start before the credits that turned out to be after the main chunk, it's not like it was jumping all over the place all the way through.

Russ 10-02-2015 08:10

Re: The Walking Dead

The way they used slow-mo with the camera jumping about, that was totally unnecessary and ruined the flow of the episode. OK he went in to the house, got bitten and suffered delirium - pretty straightforward but they had to spoil it like that. The show is starting to get too pretentious for its own good.

Horizon 10-02-2015 15:25

Re: The Walking Dead

....I agree up to a point before this episode, case being the "walkers" aren't that dangerous and everyone seemed to be relaxed around them, turning their backs to them etc

Without spoiling it for those that haven't seen this yet, I think this episode changed the pretentious air that the series seem to have developed. Yes, other people are dangerous, the main theme of the show, but so are the flesh eating zombies! Something this episode has now reminded everyone about and done it in style.

Russ 19-02-2015 06:23

....yep, but the latest ep is back on form.

Now into the next phase of the series after the last few treading water episodes. Will it all end well and everyone lives happily ever after?.... it's the end of the series if that's the case.

Really enjoyed the latest ep.

Re: The Walking Dead

I have to disagree here with the comments about the last episode, I thought it was good!

Where the episodes are clearly filler for the next stage in the show, then I agree it gets boring, ie some of the eps before we got to the town. But I think we're now in a interesting stage again and getting some real story telling.

The show is leading us down the path that Rick and his "family" might revolt against the town at some point, something Rick himself did warn off in his video "interview." But, I think there are a few clear clues it may go the other way and the first clue was just before they entered the town.

I am going to call this town Stepford from now on....

Not happy that this is on BT only, however I managed to watch the first episode last night, without having to sign up for anything, after trawling through various nefarious sites.

It was OK, a slow starter but I assume it will have to be. I'll try and watch the second episode tonight.

If anyone knows any decent sites that you don't have to sign up for, please PM me.

Then again would it be any worse than in the first season when they smeared themselves in blood and guts thereby allowing them to go 'unseen' amongst the walkers? It could happen if they suggested he used something similar although it would be absurd.

Do you remember everything that’s happened on The Walking Dead so far? This week, AMC announced they will air a special retrospective ahead of the series’ season seven premiere.
The two-hour special will chronicle all that’s happened from season one of the zombie apocalypse drama to the moment right before season seven begins, when Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is about to kill off a main character.
The Walking Dead retrospective is slated to air on October 16th at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Meanwhile, season seven of The Walking Dead premieres on October 23rd.

From AMC:

“In preparation for the highly-anticipated Season 7 premiere of “The Walking Dead,” AMC will air a two-hour retrospective, “The Walking Dead: Journey So Far,” on Sunday, October 16 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. During the special, fans can get up close and personal with the cast as they tell the stories of their characters from the moment they were introduced to where they were when last season ended. Clips from the most pivotal moments in series history will be intercut between cast and executive producer interviews.

Season by season, from the moment Rick wakes up in the hospital (as told by Andrew Lincoln), all the way to the excruciating first swing of Negan’s bat (told by Jeffery Dean Morgan and others in the lineup), the story of “The Walking Dead” will be told by those who have lived it. “The Walking Dead: Journey So Far” gives viewers who have never seen an episode of “The Walking Dead” a chance to get all caught up on the plot, characters, locations, and unique terminology of the series as well as providing fans who‘ve never missed a moment with fresh interviews with the series’ producers and their favorite actors as part of an exciting refresher course that will further whet their appetite for the new season.

The first half of Season 7 sees the group fractured, broken, bereaved, and picking up the pieces while living under the thumb of oppression. Negan will have successfully brought the survivors under his will, brutally convincing them to live under his rules with a deadly and horrific example of what happens if they don’t.

“The Walking Dead” is executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Showrunner Scott M. Gimple, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero and Tom Luse.

Big fan of the Walking Dead but wasn't too keen on tonights episode. It felt like an hour of hyping up how bad Negan is. The show is usually great for story telling and drama but what I just watched felt like over the top violence for the sake of it. I honestly thought Maggie was going to have a miscarriage just to round things off. Network television snuff.

If this is the kind of stuff we'll be seeing from the show going forward it doesn't float my boat. I'm not going to stop watching over 1 episode but I'm already getting that feeling watching it is becoming a burden.

Get the feeling this whole Negan storyline will be dragged out over the next 2 or 3 seasons. It doesn't feel like I'm going to find out the answers to 2 of my main questions about the show anytime soon. What caused the outbreak and what kind of state is the rest of the world in?

My issue wasn't the violence, I was expecting that, but the actor playing Negan.

He's been in two shows I've watched over recent years, The Good Wife and Extant and I felt he was too high profile for the role. Apart from that, all good.

I hope so. Never been a big fan of the antagonists in the show. I've never found myself sitting watching thinking I hate this character and I can't wait for them to get their comeuppance. I find them an inconvenience which I endure in the hope the show picks up the pace and starts to answer the big questions and draws to a conclusion.

I'm a massive fan of the zombie genre. As most zombie movie fans will know you very rarely get to know what caused the outbreak and what happens in the long term on a global scale. 28 Days Later did a decent job but not really a zombie movie. I've been waiting, frustratedly, for nearly 30 years since watching Romero's Dead trilogy for this to be properly addressed. I'm still holding out hope I'm going to get that with the Walking Dead.

That's why I get frustrated when a new "bad guy" worse than the one before gets introduced. I know their going to move away from the zombies as the main feature for a couple of seasons whilst the next big conflict plays out. The shows been on the air for nearly 7 years. Apart from character development, and a rotation of cast, I'm not sure we're really that much further forward in terms of the bigger picture.

General Maximus 26-10-2016 10:18

Re: The Walking Dead

the thing which is bugging me is the "realism" factor which I have mentioned many a time before. The season finale did my head in because there is no way that ambush would have worked without the bad guys being able to communicate with one another over distance and coordinate tactics.
There were several times in 7x01 where Rick easily had the upper hand with the axe and Neegan had his back to him (or when they were sitting at the table) and Rick could have easily in a split second had him. If the rest of the bad guys are so subservient that they let Neegan rule with impunity then they would have accepted Rick as the new alpha male.
I absolutely love TWD but if they are going to start doing unrealistic things with the story line (especially to set it aside from FTWD) then I'll stop watching it. They have had 6 great season and I am not going to watch it go down hill now.

I think Ezekiel was quite entertaining, obviously the actor was a fan of "coming to America ".

The tiger is a great idea.

In regards to last night, I don't know if they will do a back story but surely Negan must be ex-CIA or special forces, or some one that is trained in mentally breaking people.

I agree and would love to see it, even if it isn't a full episode and they blend some flashbacks into the current story line of what is happening in a particular episode (like they did with Lost).

I am hoping that Daryl half turns to the dark side and joins Neegan for a while. We all think he is properly bad and then when Neegan goes after Rick & co they start pasting all the minor people in Alexandria and then just as they get to Rick and the major characters Daryl appears out of the blue and grinds Neegan into a pulp.

I was hoping this was going to happen at some point. A crossover is planned and it would be great if they could do it with the entire cast of both series:

Quote:

AMC has a major event in mind. Deadline reports the network is planning a crossover between The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead.
Announced at this week’s New York Comic-Con, the crossover will apparently happen sometime next year. Comic series creator Robert Kirkman teased: “There is one character that is going to go from one show, that I will not name, to another show, that I will not name. This is a huge event in the world of The Walking Dead.”
The eighth season of The Walking Dead kicks off with its 100th episode on AMC on October 22nd at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Meanwhile, season three of Fear the Walking Dead wraps on October 15th.

I am of two minds about the pilot. I liked the premise of it and it is great to see everyone going on the attack and hopefully wrapping up the Neegan story line. The one thing which really bugged me is how focused it was and unrealistic and I can only hope they make it right in 8x02. Where are all the saviours, the extra dudes they brought in at the end of the finale and all the salve workers he has? I want to see the zombies working their way through the complex finishing everyone off, especially Simon and Eugene.

Michonne is leaving in season 10 which is a bummer because I love watching her do her Samurai thing. Her departure is in addition to Rick and Maggie which we have yet to see the impact of yet and I wonder how the show can survive 3 huge characters leaving because even if you bring new characters in it takes time for them to establish themselves and bring some depth. I wouldn't be surprised if other members of the cast have second thoughts and maybe it is time to think about ending the series after 10 years.

I love season 9, I think it is my favourite season after 1 and 2. The last couple of seasons especially have done my nut in and I was ready to stop watching the show but they have turned it around big time and the problems they are facing now are more grounded and realistic. I think Judith is absolutely fantastic and I love how the rest of the characters have developed due to the time jumps. I thought the whispering mum was going to be another annoying OTT Neegan-type bady but I am glad they have already taken her down a notch by drawing all the walkers into her camp. I have never touched the comics so I don't know what is going to happen but I am really hoping things get so bad that they need to let Neegan out and use him for a bit of consultation on how to deal with them. It will be good to see him kicking ass for the good guys.

I’m a bit mixed.......

There’s no direction. We need to know what is going on in the wider country and world.

Apparently we won’t find out what’s going on with Rick, as he’s making several TV movies to cover his story.

Are there any cities/ civilisations left ( like in Land of the dead), is it global, have any other countries managed it better.

I’m bored of the three communities, it needs - or fear the walking dead needs - a complete direction change, or they both die after these seasons.

I agree and that is why I liked season 1 of FTWD so much. Although it was based before TWD it was good to see things on a larger scale and how everyone reacted to it. I have always hoped that when they decide to end the series that the last season will involve them coming across a well defended and encapsulated city that is prospering and give us a sense of closer. Anyone who watched Falling Skies will recall that although the main group of characters were nomadic and moved from place to place, in season 3 (I think) they came across a military base which was full operational and had an established community. It would be nice to see something like that in TWD because there have got to be more people out there and at least a few government emergency bunkers that were up and running as things went down the drain.

******* SPOILER ALERT? ********

I'm barely hanging on with this show. I think the usual Villain of the Season peaked with Negan. Now we have a podgy, deranged Sam Morton floating around with a mucky face. I don't care about her daughter, Henry, or anyone else really. And The Highwaymen galloping to the rescue? Puhlease....

yeah I know what you mean, after everything they have been through you would think that they would pop her off at the first opportunity they had. It is unrealistic to keep letting the bad guys live and that is what does my head in with Arrow. I am letting it go at the moment though because I think they are giving it back as much as they are taking it and it was great to see some proper ass kicking last week. I would however like to know the reasoning behind No. 2 surviving a stab wound and fall down the elevator shaft.

Personally l think they need to call it quits soon with The Walking Dead.

I agree. The Walking Dead and FTWD were two different shows but when we had the time jump last season and another immortal bad guy they basically became the same show and you only need one.

I'm hoping they are just building the characters up with Rick gone. They need to find their own feet as we have been so used to Rick on the show that it's difficult to see the characters taking a different role. I'm sure they are building upto something I just hope it's not going to be a let down

the next (and final season) of The Walking Dead is going old school with a full season of 24 eps and is starting early in August rather than the traditional October

Re: The Walking Dead

About time it ends

The latest episodes have been quite slow. The Daryl and his bit of stuff filler, how useful is a penknife episode and even the Neegan backstory (best of a bad bunch) all place fillers to give us something we could have done without

Re: The Walking Dead

I agree, I watched the first two (of the extra eps) and though they were a snooze fest. I love story and character development but it is clear these are padded out season fillers. Given where what should have been the season finale left us, I was really happy when they said there would be extra eps and I was expecting them to carry on from where we left off.

· Daryl’s Story – Premieres Thursday, July 15
· Maggie’s Story – Premieres Thursday, July 22
· Negan’s Story – Premieres Thursday, July 29
· Carol’s Story – Premieres Thursday, August 5

I thought we kinda saw Negans origin story already

I haven't and I should do really. I watched the first of the extra eps and it was clearly a seasoning padding snooze fest episode so I didn't bother with any of the others.
