Super hub 2 v's Super hub 2 AC ?
Hi all
Had a number of problems with my internet service and virgin media have offered to replace my current super hub 2 with a super hub 2 AC.... Just wondered if there are any difference ! What appreciate any views Many thanks for your time Regards Mike |
Re: Super hub 2 v's Super hub 2 AC ?
Yes I'm able to get 125meg over WiFi in 5ghz on my ac compatible nexus 5 smartphone.
On lan I get 162meg :) |
Re: Super hub 2 v's Super hub 2 AC ?
The difference is the Superhub 2 AC has AC.

From my perspective the wireless signal reaches my new Mac whereas before I needed a power line adaptor |
Re: Super hub 2 v's Super hub 2 AC ?
AC doesn't change how far the signal 'reaches.

Unless there is a problem with the new shub2ac that has not yet come to light, i'd take the offer as it is more future proof. A lot of new devices (tablets, mobiles, etc.) now have ac wireless |
Re: Super hub 2 v's Super hub 2 AC ?
Except it still has the same top speed of 400Mbps like the SH1 and SH2.
|
Re: Super hub 2 v's Super hub 2 AC ?
So what makes the ac better then?
|
Re: Super hub 2 v's Super hub 2 AC ?
Faster wireless.
|
Re: Super hub 2 v's Super hub 2 AC ?
.. and arguably better range: http://www.trustedreviews.com/opinio...the-difference

Re: Super hub 2 v's Super hub 2 AC ?
Wait for the superhub 3 !!!
Dana Hashem, Virgin Media’s Spokesperson, told ISPreview.co.uk: “A small group of Virgin Media triallists are trying out a piece of equipment that features 802.11ac WiFi technology. We are always looking to bring the best products and services to our customers and will keep everyone updated as and when we bring anything new to our existing line-up.” |
Re: Super hub 2 v's Super hub 2 AC ?
The OP needs help in choosing between the shub2 and the shub2ac ..

You seem to have confused range with performance.
Nowhere in that article does it actually say range is better. |

ITT: People who are confusing range with performance at the same distance.

Beamforming makes a contribution to 'improve[d] speeds relative to wireless n at the same distance'. Range is still limited by law and receive sensitivity, neither of which has changed in AC. When signal gets weak AC has to switch back to 'n' modes anyway because... they have longer range. |

The reality is, unless OP has AC equipment, he won't see any advantage to the AC router, it's exactly the same but supports Wireless-AC. It won't have better range or throughput or anything like that unless it's paired with AC equipment. There's also something else to consider - the fault reports of the SH2AC. It's hard to grasp how many are becoming faulty, partly due to the NDA of the testers, but enough people have mentioned it to be a concern. So if there's no AC equipment, it'd definitely be better to stick with the existing SH2. |

As far as I know, the OP was offered a free shub2ac to replace his (possibly faulty) shub2. Seems an easy decision to me .. I had a problem with my shub2 which required a replacement plus I know a couple of people who have a shub2ac and so far have had no issues with them. |
Re: Super hub 2 v's Super hub 2 AC ?
I know someone that's had 4 ACs so far. ME.

As I was on the SH2ac trial, I had the modem in router mode for some time in order to test it out. I could get 153/12 on all the "I" devices and the Tab Pro. This was also true of the SH2 and on both modems it was necessary to set the 5G settings to the highest throughput value. I'm now in modem mode (as I always have been and intended to be) because the router tweaking functions on all SH models are poor. Hope that helps. |
Re: Super hub 2 v's Super hub 2 AC ?
I am able to max out the Internet speed on ac wifi devices with the sh2ac.

So basically when you said you'd answer deep questions you were just trolling then, since you haven't answered a single question so far.
