Youtube Dead Again
anyone noticed major youtube problems in the last week or so, doesnt seem to be anything local for me, buts its getting so bad i cant load videos just like last time, and not peak congestion its 5am and its either buffer, buffer, buffer, or "an error occurred, please try again later"
|
Re: Youtube Dead Again
Yes I've been getting that and it seems only since I went from 60 to 100Mbps.
|
Re: Youtube Dead Again
I haven't noticed anything at all. I have been watching a lot of Honest Trailers in 1080p and haven't had any slow down or buffering issues.
|
Re: Youtube Dead Again
I had issues with it all day yesterday, some videos would load some wouldn't
Doesn't seem to bad this morning |
Re: Youtube Dead Again
There's a ticket (and thread) about it already. I have tried several "solutions" to no avail.

Re: Youtube Dead Again
how weird, I have just spent 10 mins clicking on random vids and I haven't had any problems loading them at all and they were all 1080p
---------- Post added at 12:04 ---------- Previous post was at 11:18 ---------- I have just done some googling and having a read of the VM forums and there have been an awful lot of posts over the last couple of days regarding youtube probs. For those who want to keep track of the issue the fault reference is F003269887 and the link to the VM forum thread is http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...883530/page/50 Edit, I have just found a 2nd fault reference under the 120mbit section F003280811. From what I have read it does seem to be a regional issue and affecting the west side of the country again which is what happened last time if I remember correctly. It would explain why I am okay atm because I am on the east. |
Re: Youtube Dead Again
Yes I've had it too for about 3 days now, stuff won't play, I can see the preview if I move the timeline along, but the display itself is just loading....
Is there an alternative I can use for youtube, that doesn't go through VM |
Re: Youtube Dead Again
Try using Hola unblocker or something. Free extension that lets you reroute through another country. Good for viewing US netflix.
Just tried youtube myself and have no problems. The only issue I have, which I always have, is that youtube likes to default to say 480p instead of 720p or 1080p no matter what my settings are set to. If I manually click on 1080p it still loads quickly, but I have to do that for EVERY video and I have yet to find a decent browser extension to do this that actually works. |
Re: Youtube Dead Again
Don't seem to have any issues here but I guess we count as east.

Traceroute to "Watchlive.channel4.com" and penultimate hop should contain "....basl-icdn...", or perhaps not? ;) |

just tried youtube and nerfed again so don't know what is going on
been working flawlessly for months. |
Re: Youtube Dead Again
as per those with the problems I am in the west midlands, and im getting videos just not buffering at all, and can see the full preview, however some are okay
Looks like another regional cache overload, why arent VM pro-actively monitoring this (as well as the rest of their network)??? |

I suspect VM's IBM NMC (possibly based at Swansea) are indeed monitoring but they're not directly customer facing and any more recent advance trend predictions may simply have overtaken any VM's current planned CDN rollouts? Either way VM are unlikely to supply a full detailed explanation, apart from usual generic one line apology. :( |
Re: Youtube Dead Again
As I am sure you are well aware by now, a minority of our users in various locations around the country have been experiencing intermittent problems relating to the youtube service. Whilst this problem extends beyond the realm of the Virgin Media network work and is outside of our control, our engineers are working closely with our partners to identify the cause of this issue and bring it to a swift resolution. We apologise to those affected and we will get back to you with an update as soon as we have more information.

Re: Youtube Dead Again
mine is far from intermittent. Its a constant.

Re: Youtube Dead Again
A lot of videos not working for me now :(
In Belfast |
Re: Youtube Dead Again
Still borked here on the dark side of the Forth :D
loads about 15 secs of any video, plays normally and then just stops, refreshing doesn't do anything. |

Re: Youtube Dead Again
I am not going to say anything because I'll only get moaned at for being cynical and pessimistic. You can tell from the phrasing and language used in the statement that they haven't rectified the issue at all and have implemented an easy fix which they hope is going to indirectly mitigate/alleviate the symptoms enough that users will perceive it to be a fix and presumably the best they can do :dig:

Re: Youtube Dead Again
Seems to be sorted for me now.....
|
Re: Youtube Dead Again
just checked and all seems OK again.
Youtube's mess or VM? |

Seems as though the issue is actually resolved though. When dealing with network issues, it's not always clear where the problem is, especially when the problem could be your network or someone else's. The wording to me seemed more like they think they've fixed it but don't want to commit to saying it's definitely fixed in case it isn't (Which they have done in the past). Personally, I appreciate the honesty in the message, much rather a "we reckon we've fixed it but please check and let us know" than a "it's fixed, close ticket" when it hasn't been. Seems like VM just can't win. |

Re: Youtube Dead Again
Their response was more succinct than what you've just given and said pretty much the same thing - who's really beating around the bush?
|
Re: Youtube Dead Again
because when you basically say "we might have fixed it and we might not have" then a more explanatory statement like mine provides greater clarity and serves to put your mind at ease.
|
Re: Youtube Dead Again
Basically they said "We turned it off and back on again. Let's hope that fixes it"
