Re: How Virgin TV works
Thanks for the link Ben. It lost me about halfway down page 2 but seeing all the kit VM use was an eye opener.

Re: How Virgin TV works
What an excellent article.
Those of you who think launching channels involves "just pressing a button", please take note. :) |

Interesting read, thanks for posting.

Re: How Virgin TV works
Great read, and the sheer amount of hardware just to get TV to our doors is quite staggering, much more than I was expecting really.

So everything taken off satellite is reencoded?

Re: How Virgin TV works
I thought I read a while back that Virgin recieved an uncompressed HD feed direct from Sky which was encoded and send down the network, apparently not if the Reg are correct.
During Saturday's free Sky Sports day I compared the same Sky Sports HD channels via Sky+HD and TiVo flicking back and forth between providers on the same TV. The HD channels via Sky on satellite are noticeably superior in clarity to the equivalent carried on Virgin which would confirm that they are re-encoded by VM. |
