Gee. Thanks a lot Virgin.
Thanks to the free HD Saturday, and my Tivo automatically recording stuff on the Sky Sports HD channels that I don't subscribe to, I now find I am unable to watch the Australia-New Zealand rugby and some other ITM games because I "no longer subscribe to these channels".
Thanks a lot Virgin and Tivo. ********* ridiculous. |
Re: Gee. Thanks a lot Virgin.
I believe that has been the case for some time with Sky channels (instigated by Sky). Hard way to find out about it though.
|
Re: Gee. Thanks a lot Virgin.
Any recording for channels you don't subscribe to will not play. It's been that way for a while.
Don't see this as being a problem. Especially not a big enough one to get angry. |
Re: Gee. Thanks a lot Virgin.
Isn't this only the case with the Sky premium channels on VM though, as opposed to all channels on the Sky platform (unless it's changed)

Re: Gee. Thanks a lot Virgin.
I get the point but its not really something to complain about?? You got the channels for free for one day. You don't subscribe to them. You wanted to record something you got for free and then watch later for free after the offer had ended??
Its not really something to complain about is it unless i'm reading this all wrong haha!? |

Re: Gee. Thanks a lot Virgin.
I wouldn't worry the rugby was rubbish anyway, seen better in the school playing fields....
Also the PQ on SS2HD was poor on Saturday when i was watching the Test Match. I kept getting picture break up, no problem on other channels. It was a warning not to subscribe to Sky sports rather than to subscribe. I'll stick to SkyGo in future which works well hooked up to the TV via HDMI. |
Re: Gee. Thanks a lot Virgin.
I'm angry because my Tivo is set up to record in SD because I don't subscribe to the HD Sky Sports channels.
Tivo took it upon itself to record it in HD instead. Not being able to watch something retrospectively that I would have been able to watch if I'd been here is preposterous. Also, why does the board censor [Mod Edit]?? It's not a swear word. [Mod Comment - this is a 'family-friendly' forum - if a word has been removed once, do not re-post it! please.] |
Re: Gee. Thanks a lot Virgin.
Series links and planned one off recordings on TiVo won't change channel like that, so how were they set up?
|
Re: Gee. Thanks a lot Virgin.
A wishlist would pick the HD channel if available - which it was on Saturday only

If I'd have known it wouldn't be available after Saturday, and that Tivo would record it in HD, I would have set up a specific recording for SD. Ridiculous. |
Re: Gee. Thanks a lot Virgin.
Not that it affected me but it should be available to watch if recorded during a Freeview it certainly is on Sky, I believe they use the basic channels encryption during a Freeview and then Hard encryption when it returns to normal, this means they still viewable afterwards but only those recorded on the Freeview day.

Re: Gee. Thanks a lot Virgin.
If it is a Sky channel and you are no longer subscribed then you can't watch the recording on VM. Its imposed by Sky.

It should not be beyond the capability of the Tivo software to not override my recording preferences. It should have recorded in SD. I've got the "record only in HD" option set to No, what else could I have done??? |

You recorded during the period you were subscribed but tried to watch the recording during the period you were no longer subscribed. |

If I was "properly" subscribed having paid for the subscription, recorded something whilst subscribed but then tried to watch it having ended my subscription, would I then be able to watch the thing I had legitimately paid for or not? Because if not, that is plain wrong. |

Get over the fact that my Tivo thought it knew better than me by recording something I wouldn't be able to watch later? Is that what you're saying I should get over? ---------- Post added at 15:49 ---------- Previous post was at 15:49 ---------- Quote:

So, VM are not at fault for doing it, but they are at fault for not being honest and open about the fact you will be unable to watch any recordings without being subscribed to the channel. They have never (in my experience) stated that you will be unable to watch these programmes after the free day. While I am no legal expert, I feel this *could* be considered false advertising. Personally, I feel that Meng has every right to feel slightly angry at this, even though the channel was being given freely. |

However, as someone over on the Community Forum pointed out, this is in the T&Cs: Quote:

It has been suggested over in the 'Coming Soon to Virgin Media' thread that the freeview was done manually (because of the infrequency of these freeview periods, it wouldn't be worth investing in automated equipment) and the person responsible wanted to go to bed  Quote:
Resubscribe could be another feeview period, so, if it's any good to you, you could watch your recording then (or, of course, if you ever paid to subscribe to the channels). |
Re: Gee. Thanks a lot Virgin.
Why isn't it possible to have some kind of time-stamp on the recording, so that it can be available to view retrospectively?
Also, it would be handy to have some sort of 'don't record in HD' option available to prevent this sort of thing from happening - or an 'override in HD if available' yes/no option. |
