Current Bundle seems overpriced
Having looked through my current bundle with VM and compared it with the Big Kahuna bundle It appears I am paying more
This is what I currently have TiVo TV XL Broadband up-to 100mb Phone line, evening and weekend calls + caller display Sky Sports (SD) Extra VHD box Now all that will be around £105 in September once the line rental saver ends having looked at the Big Kahuna bundle with all the above but with the broadband up-to 152mb that comes to £100.34pm with the option to get sky sports for 10 months for £150 bringing the cost down to £73.09. So to me it seems like I am paying to much and would be better going to the Big Kahuna bundle and cancel SS in May when the footy season ends. Whats peoples thoughts on this? |

I'm lucky that my contract & line rental saver run out in August so I'll be renewing the contract, line rental saver and take out the Sky Sports offer all at once. I may even get a better deal for doing it at once, always worth an ask. In my situation it is a no brainer deal as I've no intention of leaving VM and it's a great offer. |

I can move to the Big Kahuna bundle pay £150 upfront for SS, increase my broadband speed and still save from month 5 once the savings cover the cost of SS upfront Can't remember the exact date but my 12 month TV contract is up in August |
Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
FYI. I get -
2xtivo boxes (XL) 100mb net phone weekend (inc l/rental) No Sky Movies/Sports. £65.00 p/month. |
Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
Has anyone tried to cancel with VM lately? if so were you offered any good deals to stay?

Tried a week later, was offered a very good deal... which was sadly to good to be true. VM phoned back a few days later to say they couldn't honour it. Even spoke to a supervisor who couldn't help. Spoke with retentions once more in a last gasp effort and was a very good deal as a way of an "apology"! |
Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
I was paying around £63 / month for 50mb BB. xltv, 1tb Tivo and VHD box in another room and evening and weekend callls. My discount of £9-00 was ending in August taking the price up to around £72 / month. Called up last week saying I was unhappy especially as we already had 2 price increases in the last 18 months. India tried but could nt do anything for me so put me through to retentions.
Very nice lady said she could do the Big Kahuna for me and I could stay on the same deal with no extra charge for the telephone deal or extra box. Also paid up front for 12 months line rental saving more money. Works out at £45 for BK and £12 for phone. £57 instead of £72 and faster broadband. :) |
Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
Hi all,
Just to add - I signed up previously to an 18 month contract on VM with the old VIP package (so 2 boxes, all HD, sports/movies etc) - had been half price for 6 months then jumped up to £120 per month! Virgin weren't willing to do anything till contract expired... was on holiday for the last price increase at the beginning of the year so missed out using that as leverage - then the £2 per month sky sports increase came through the post... So I've now renewed my contract for 12 months before end of contract expiry - switched to Big Kahuna + extra box + Sky HD for approx £73/month - then did the Sky Sports season pass so essentially back to where I was before for under £90/month (less sky movies which i never use and the top phone service which again i rarely use) |
Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
I got a shock today when my bundle price jumped by £8. Looking at my account I note that an £8 promotional discount has expired.
I spoke to a nice lady in accounts and she told me that the only thing she could do was supply me with a Tivo box (£20 self install) which would reduce my account from about £65 to somewhere around £55, plus the £15.99 phone line. Is this worth considering or should I go to retentions? I have an ntlworld.com e-mail so have been with the company for many years. We have the V box HD XL package, super hub 30mb, free phone calls and caller display, the bill was £65 plus 15.99 less £8 before. We are both of an age where we are not too bothered about recording programmes as Catch up covers most things, without the ads :) Any tips or help most welcome |
Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
Speeeeeeeeeaking of which...
I have a loyalty discount and a new contract for 12 months which started in March, it's only £7 discount and first one ever. Am I able to cancel due to the impending rise? The woman on the phone said it would go up again but I would be able to ring up at that time and re-negotiate. |

Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
Thanks for that superblade, I also have caller display and free land line calls any time so that would cost a little more.
What is the best way to speak to a UK CSA? With my mobile I pay £10pm on a rolling contract, but I think I can save £5 of that, I will check my mobile accounts for the past 3 months, Yep I do not use my mobile too much. :) |

So as you were quoted about £55.00 then I guess that included the cost of XL phone and caller display. You can always try retentions as they are UK based and I've generally always found them extremely helpful. I've found the best thing is to be honest upfront and just say you don't wish to leave but are looking to get a better deal as you've been with them for years. I'm sure they'll sort you out. And yes, the SIM deal with the new bundles is excellent if it meets your needs. Good luck and let us know how you get on :) One other thing too gus is that if your situation allows it, then line rental saver (http://store.virginmedia.com/phone/a...tal-saver.html) is a good option. |

That doesn't sound too shabby to me, especially as you weren't looking, this has only arisen because your old discount expired. |
Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
That's correct Andy, it's just the wife and I are quite happy with our current set up now we have to fathom out about the benefits and how to use Tivo.
From your post it does seem that with Tivo you get more BBC iPlayer( i never got Kevin Bridges Commenwealth games on V Box), but my PC ensures I don't miss much. I will contact retentions and get them to sort things out for me and later ring Virgin mobile and reduce my mobile phone to £5 pm. VM must be OK I have only posted on nthellworld 26 times in 7 years. :) |
Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
In case anyone is interested, I phoned CS this morning, politely informed them my contract was up and what they could do for me if I renew my contract. Here's the outcome:
Old deal - Modified Premiere collection (TV XL, BB 60, Tel XL, TiVo & VHD box) £60.75 + Line Rental New deal - Modified Big Kahuna (TV XL, BB 152, Tel XL, TiVo & VHD box) £54.50 + Line Rental Not too bad a deal to be honest, didn't need to haggle for it and I'm happy with that especially as new customer price was £59.50. Also did line rental saver & Sky Sports season pass so the plastic has taken a hammering. I had only agreed to line rental saver before the £54.50 offer so not sure if that had any effect on the deal. As the deal was so good, I added the HD fee for good measure. I've always refused to pay this for Sky Sports when it was for 2 channels but seeing as its soon to be 6 channels I've changed my view on it. I also asked if any Sky Sports price rises would be added when they happen and was told no. All in all I'm a satisfied customer |
Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
I was going to move to Sky, but Virgin offered me
152Mb Broadband XL TV Tivo Box Second V HD Box Sky Sports M Phone For £72.50 Per Month |

Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
A month ago I started a new 12 months contract: Big Kahuna with £5 loyalty discount (£40 plus line rental). I've since been put on short time at work - now working 3 days instead of 5.
1) Can I downgrade to one of the lower packages? 2) If I do, will I lose my loyalty discount? Thanks in advance for any advice. |
Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
Might be able to downgrade, and possibly lose the discount. Best thing to do on Monday is to call retentions, 150 option 5 then option 3 and explain to them that you are now going to be short of money and so need to look at cutting costs wherever you can, they might be able to help or they may not.

Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
Could someone please confirm I have got this right
This is what I'm looking at with the Big Kahuna bundle XL TV with TiVo Broadband up-to 152Mbps Extra V HD box Phone line, evening and weekend calls + caller display Sky sports paid in advance for 10 months £150 I get that to £74.34 pm is that correct? after the 10 months I would be canceling sky sports till the new season starts in August so that price would still be the same wouldn't it? |

Big Kahuna £45 Line Rental £15.99 Caller Display £2.25 Extra VHD £6.50 If you are renewing a contract you should get a better deal. As I said in one of my posts, I got an extra £5 off the list price. |

Aye always worth going through the retentions team even if its only another £5 off its better than nothing |
Re: Current Bundle seems overpriced
Is the sky sports season ticket offer added to the next months bill or does it have to be paid straight away by card like the line rental saver?

Got this offer from Virgin through the post yesterday,
