Any Chance of me getting Broadband?

I live in an analogue area, is there any chance that we will be upgraded to Digital in the near future or have Virgin forgotten about us. I had TV with them but they swtiched analogue services a few years ago, however we still have their phone line. We are having to keep a BT line to get broadband at the moment.

I know phone comes down a different cable but I was under the impression that both/two cables were run to the property so if you have got one (phone) then you can get bb?

He can't get BB if the area doesn't have digital service.

Re: Any Chance of me getting Broadband?

why wouldn't VM make the digital service available in that particular area when they have done so in most others?

Re: Any Chance of me getting Broadband?

I didn't realise there were any analogue areas left. I thought VM abandoned the few remaining places they couldn't upgrade.

Zee, what part of the country do you live in? Your question can't be answered without knowing this.

The same reason they haven't made digital service available in almost half the country?

As I suspected - you live in one of their abandoned areas. I'm slightly surprised they're still supplying you your phone service, they certainly aren't signing up new customers at that postcode.

You're wasting money having a BT line and a Virgin line. I think you should start looking into getting the virgin number ported to BT and then ditch VM altogether.

We have talk anywhere tariff and don't want to lose it especially as it's not available anymore.
What is an abandoned area? Will VM ever take an interest in us again?

Re: Any Chance of me getting Broadband?

Talk Anywhere is pointless and overpriced, why would you not want to lose it?

Re: Any Chance of me getting Broadband?

My wife uses it to call her parents that's mainly I why I've kept it also like the idea of being able to call anywhere in the world even though we don't

Re: Any Chance of me getting Broadband?

Huh, I thought it lets you call anywhere in the UK, not the whole world.

What's included in Talk Anywhere ?

Talk Anywhere customers can call landlines, mobiles and all international destinations for the same price – up to a maximum number of minutes per month.
Minutes not used are rolled forward for one month. Standard rates apply once the monthly call usage limit has been reached

Re: Any Chance of me getting Broadband?

You might want to look into how much that's costing you per month versus how much you'd save if you used a VoIP provider. Even something like skype has reasonable rates for calling internationally and free if you call another Skype user.

qasdfdsaq 27-07-2014 06:28

Re: Any Chance of me getting Broadband?

Well if 100 of his calls are international mobile calls, and he uses all his minutes every month, then it might just work out worthwhile. Skype and so forth will work out cheaper for landlines most of the time.

Re: Any Chance of me getting Broadband?

Yeah it's impossible to say as everyone's use case is different, but still worth looking at. VoIP is the future.

I think it's great news. A said a long time ago that VM will get to a point where they have reached saturation in the market, the growth will flatten out and the only way to get new customers will be to increase network coverage. I hope they this works out for them and they consider expanding other areas of the country as well.

Zee,

VM are upgrading your area between November and January :)

Pop your details in here and they'll ping you an email when you're good to go.
