The cycling team of Sri Lankans are taking their practise seriously and aiming for 70mph speeds.

Not hopeful of England doing well. Katarina JT out with foot injury, Chambers not running and I think a couple of others not taking part. Reckon it will be Australia top, Canada second and Jamaica third.

I was looking at the TV schedules earlier... almost wall-to-wall BBC coverage from early morning to late night.

Ah well, there are other channels showing something I might like to watch.

We will be watching it quite a bit but its a bit unfair for some that they have decided to put wall-to-wall coverage on BBC 1 as to me it should be on one of their other channels.

Why do you think it shouln't be on BBC One?

Its the third biggest sporting event around and a lot of people will be watching. So for me it should be on the nations biggest main channel.

Sorry Stephen but there are also many who do not like sports at all and as such most of the BBC1's schedule should remain sports free and their sports coverage should go on to one of their other channels or they should set up a sports channel in which they can put their wall-to-wall sports coverage on.

well there are still many other channels to watch with the BBCs programmes on.

Also when normal programming is on you can select the red button to watch all the other sports that are going on.

If he obviously knew that he was not going to be fit a while back then it would have been nice if he had told his team several weeks ago in order for someone else to be given their chance in his place.

I thought the opening ceremony was OK.... eventually. Poor start... great finish. I enjoyed the sentiment and symbolism of the "chair" dance to invite the participants into the Stadium. I spoke to a couple of competitors at Argyle Street station this evening and they're thoroughly enjoying it. Full of praise for accommodation and food in the athletes village.

First day back at work today after 3 weeks in Florida. Trains were a nightmare but there's a good buzz around the city.

I've got tickets for the gymnastics in the Hydro tomorrow and the Swimming on Sunday.

Good stuff from a local bike shop.

Quote:

A Commonwealth cycling team has been given new bikes by a Glasgow shop after theirs were found to be unfit for purpose.

Team Malawi arrived from Africa with their cycles, which they intended to use for both the mountain biking and road events.

However, when Neil Bilsland, of independent bike shop Bilsland Cycles, found out that the cycles were in a poor state of repair he offered to step in.
On a side note if anyone is looking for biking related stuff I'd recommend a local small scale shop over the biggies like halfords etc any day of the week.

We had cracking seats - 3 rows from the front! I suspect we were allocated seats handed back by sponsors. The 2 rows in front of us all had BP lanyards on. I did think about copying your photo with clyde in the foreground but found something else at half the price :D

Out to take in the atmosphere today ... we got a photo of the kids on the Clyde at Buchanan Street, then on the police box, which we had to tidy up first (i.e. tear off a 'Yes' sticker that was above their heads - I'm happy to say that someone else had already torn off all the ones that were within reach).

Took advantage of the Q roads and did a 6k chunk of the marathon route on my lunch break. Stuck to the blue line as much as possible.

Cracking wee route and with a few alterations could easily make it an annual mass participation event. A few people I know did a sneaky lap of the course at 6:30 yesterday cheered on by the stewards and Police and loved it.

Isn't the great Scottish run over a different route again this year? I'd heard it was back to both both Parks but in reverse? but still starting in George Square, over the Kingston Bridge and the long finish along the Clyde. I can't see the GSR ever being allowed to run up Buchanan Street.
