The cycling team of Sri Lankans are taking their practise seriously and aiming for 70mph speeds.

Not hopeful of England doing well. Katarina JT out with foot injury, Chambers not running and I think a couple of others not taking part. Reckon it will be Australia top, Canada second and Jamaica third.

I was looking at the TV schedules earlier... almost wall-to-wall BBC coverage from early morning to late night.
Ah well, there are other channels showing something I might like to watch. |
Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
Opening ceremony tonight at Celtic park and I'm close by. Been hearing the Police helicopters all evening already. Pain in the bum.

Its the third biggest sporting event around and a lot of people will be watching. So for me it should be on the nations biggest main channel. |

Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
well there are still many other channels to watch with the BBCs programmes on.
Also when normal programming is on you can select the red button to watch all the other sports that are going on. |
Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
Thank God for subtitles. :)
|
Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
Just started watching the opening on BBC, what a load of rubbish talk before it starts, Billy Connelly was the only one worth listening too,

Re: Commonwealth Games 2014

I saw people online hyping it up to be as good as, if not better than, the London 2012 one. Reading this thread, seems to be a crock of crocodile dung. Oh well, I only like these things for the countries coming in.
---------- Post added at 21:41 ---------- Previous post was at 21:40 ---------- And from what I watched, Rebecca Adlington and her legs were the best thing about the ceremony. |

Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
I thought the opening ceremony was OK.... eventually. Poor start... great finish. I enjoyed the sentiment and symbolism of the "chair" dance to invite the participants into the Stadium. I spoke to a couple of competitors at Argyle Street station this evening and they're thoroughly enjoying it. Full of praise for accommodation and food in the athletes village.
First day back at work today after 3 weeks in Florida. Trains were a nightmare but there's a good buzz around the city. I've got tickets for the gymnastics in the Hydro tomorrow and the Swimming on Sunday. |

Doesn't sound too bad actually. You'll be quite a bit further forward than us. We were three rows from the very back, in the highest part of the seating. Lucky none of us have vertigo.
It's a great atmosphere, you'll really enjoy it. |

Speaking of Wales, what's going on with all the failed dope tests, they could become the new east Germany at this rate :)
|
Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
l thought it was just one Welsh athlete who has failed a drugs test TD.
Yes l remember the East German women who looked more like male bodybuilders. |
Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
Another Scottish gold in the swimming from Dan Wallace in the 400m mens freestyle medley.

Fantastic seating you had there. We have Clydes x 3 :(

It looked great today too. Really pleased to see Frankie get the Gold. Off to the Swimming heats tomorrow morning...... damn fool that I am, I didn't realise that it clashed with the marathon. :( |

Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
There's been some atmosphere in Glasgow the last few days. :tu:
Seeing the marathon running on a big chunk of the roads I do my training on was a touch surreal yesterday. |
Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
Out to take in the atmosphere today ... we got a photo of the kids on the Clyde at Buchanan Street, then on the police box, which we had to tidy up first (i.e. tear off a 'Yes' sticker that was above their heads - I'm happy to say that someone else had already torn off all the ones that were within reach).
|
Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
Vandals.
|
Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
Indeed. I'm happy to say that judging by the way almost every Yes sticker I've come across has also been torn at, plenty of Glaswegians agree that plastering the city with separatist propaganda is unacceptable behaviour. ;)

Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
Took advantage of the Q roads and did a 6k chunk of the marathon route on my lunch break. Stuck to the blue line as much as possible.
Cracking wee route and with a few alterations could easily make it an annual mass participation event. A few people I know did a sneaky lap of the course at 6:30 yesterday cheered on by the stewards and Police and loved it. |
Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
I meant those removing the yes stickers, but then my view is well known...

To be honest, I can see why she is upset. Adams did look like she was holding a lot in the last couple of rounds and threw Walsh into the ropes.

What was good was to see England right up there at the top of the table - I hadn't realised that Australia had been top dogs so often in recent times. I'm sure the legacy of 2012 had something to do with the success and long may it continue.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/oth...ames-2014.html Ironic that this success should be in Scotland... :D |
Re: Commonwealth Games 2014
Being a massive Kylie fan I must watch the bit of the closing ceremony with her as I've been told she wore some thigh high boots.
