Re: 152MB upgrade

that is pretty much the most you are going to get because the 152mbit tier is provisioned as 168.9/12.6. Nice to see it working properly. Don't be too disappointed if it takes a nose dive this evening and over the weekend.

Re: 152MB upgrade

I got upgraded today too, same speeds so far.

No way that I need 152, even 60 was enough, but I really really appreciate the extra upload, now 12Mb.

Does everyone need the SH2 to get the 152 speed or will the SH1 still be up to the job?

Tuvoc 01-07-2014 22:15

Re: 152MB upgrade

I saw another posting that said the SH1 does support 152. Whether that is right or not I don't know. I was surprised to be upgraded, I didn't ask for it.

Re: 152MB upgrade

We totally need a big fat banner at the top of the page that says YES THE SUPERHUB DOES SUPPORT 152MbPS.

Must be the twentieth time this has been asked now...

Re: 152MB upgrade

FTTC 80/20 are far better than Virgin Media 152/12 because:

Network is uncongestion on BT Wholesale
Better upload speed on BT Wholesale
Cheaper
Very reliable service (no downtime)

I used to be with Virgin Media 152/12 and it rubbish because:

Network is congestion in my area
Poor upload
Expensive
Very unreliable service (too many tech visits and lots of downtimes)

Here is my wonderful FTTC speed since February live:

FYI, 'uncongestion' is not a real word.

btw, how much do you pay for your BT broadband?

Lol. This again...

He probably gets it for free as VM pay it for him in order to get him off their own network!

Re: 152MB upgrade

If your on cat5e cable then superhub 1 is good for 150Mb download. But if your computer or laptop is wireless connection then get superhub 2 or superhub 3 AC.

so wonderful that you supposedly dropped it and went back to VM and now it looks like you have dropped VM and gone back to fttc. It's amazing though, you stated those reasons for leaving VM last time yet you went back to them after a few weeks as if a miracle had happened but now you are complaining about the same problems. I don't believe it though because if you did actually go back to VM last time, it was more than a couple of months ago which means you are can't get out of your contract and are still with them. Either that or you never went back to them to start off with and you have been on fttc from the start.

Queue the bs and convoluted answers.............

it will do the job just fine, the main difference between shub 1 and shub 2 is the quality (stability and range) of the wifi.

MalteseFalcon 02-07-2014 08:48

Re: 152MB upgrade

Cool, it's just the SH1 is rubbish for WiFi signals and Virgin want to charge me for either upgrading to SH2 or moving the router. So every now and then I have to stop using wireless and connect it up via ethernet in the front room because the wireless speed drops to around 5 MB a second which is disgusting.

---------- Post added at 08:48 ---------- Previous post was at 08:47 ----------

And it is congested and uncongested.

Lolllllllll, you did what did a few months ago. He spent ages dissing VM and going on about how bad they are and that is why he left and moved to openreach (cant remember the isp, i think it was plusnet) and he posted pics of his cpe and everything. A couple of weeks later he said he was back with VM which nobody believed so spent a good 30 mins going through all of his posts a copying the relevant bits about congestion, bad customer service, poor speed and he is never never never going back to VM. I am on my phone atm but i'll try and find it later when i get back. It is hilarious.

As a rule of thumb i would look at Linksys routers. I have been using them for donkeys years and never had a problem with any of them. They are feature packed, reliable and stable. The whole of a router is that they stay in the background and dont require any user intervention and Linksys do just that. I cant post any links atm because i am on my phone but i would look at the Ea2700 if you just want a normal router or if you want one with a usb port so you can use it as a file server or print server you need to look at the ea3500 (or whatever the latest model is). The last time i looked the ea2700 was £50 on amazon.

Yes but that was down to BT port but it was resolved after 2 weeks as thanks to Plusnet for telling BT to check for congestion and got it fixed. Virgin Media doesn't care if u are congestion or not. Plusnet & BT does care!

Ya, they do now, only took public naming and shaming.

VM obviously do care, however it can be a more substantial job than simply reconfiguring a switch or adding a new port to a port channel.

Where BT have had to introduce new hardware due to a shortage of ports or hardware being saturated it's been a somewhat longer process.

Not that either of them are angels, but to say the BT Wholesale network is completely uncongested is no good. Exchanges and groups of them are constantly going into and out of congestion states.

Really, because I distinctly remember that a week or so after the thread above you claimed you cancelled BT and went back to VM and we were all taking the pee out of you for it because you said you would never go back again. You went off and one and the only thing you said was that you have already explained your reasons for returning in another thread and weren't going to repeat yourself. You need to keep your stories straight. I suggest writing everything down in a diary with dates then you can remember what lie you told to whom.

Re: 152MB upgrade

Well, OFCOM, PC Magazine, Broadband Genie, uSwitch can't all be wrong.

No.1 for speed
We don’t call our broadband ‘superfast’ for nothing…this year Ofcom has named us fastest widely available broadband* in the UK for the 6th year running, PC Magazine crowned us Fastest ISP in the UK, Broadband Genie named us Fastest Broadband Provider 2014 and we were voted Fastest Broadband 2014 by uSwitch.

No.1 for service
Customer service speaks volumes – and complaints speak even louder, which is why we’re chuffed to bits to be the least complained about broadband provider according to Ofcom. Either our customers are an extremely happy bunch, or we’re doing something right!

No.1 for reliability
That’s right – you can rely on us for an awesome broadband connection. We pipped PlusNet, BT, Sky and EE to the post to be rated the most reliable connection by customers in the Broadband Genie Home Broadband Survey.

No.1 for customer satisfaction
There’s a whole lot of love between Virgin Media and our wonderful customers. Through uSwitch, they’ve rated us Best Customer Rated Broadband 2014 and Best Home Broadband Provider 2014. And our customers have rated us the best ISP among the major providers in the latest National Customer Satisfaction Index (NCSI) report.

General Maximus 04-07-2014 16:59

Re: 152MB upgrade

I can half believe that. I have been saying for years that my connection is very reliable and i never have a problem achieving max speed. I think they have taken a massive leap in preventative customer service. I think the actual customer service is cack, i hate talking to the peeps in India, they have done a good job in reducing the actual need for calls though with shub2 so it is a step in the right direction.

I recently got my free upgrade from 60mb to 100mb, unsure about whether it involved a contract extension I rang customer services. The person I first spoke to was adamant that it did mean a new 12 month contract. I told him to downgrade my broadband back to 60 mb as my contract was finishing soon and I wanted a new deal. A couple of hours later, I checked to find I was still on 100mb so I rang retentions where I was categorically assured that the upgrade did not mean a new contract. Why do Virgin have some C/S staff who don't know what they are doing?
