STV Glasgow on Virgin Media.

STV Glasgow did launch on June 2nd in the ''West of Scotland'' area.

But Virgin Media are only broadcasting it in old NTL areas of Glasgow.

Even Media Boy HQ can view this channel on Freeview and Sky but not on my Virgin Media (Ex-Telewest) box in the west of Scotland.

Here we go again with the NTL VS Telewest carry on.

Re: STV Glasgow on Virgin Media.

Channel 23 on freeview. I presume the intention was to launch it on all VM platforms there was a problem with the ex-Telewest side of things.

Apparently the channel's licence is for Glasgow city only, which is covered by the ex-NTL network. Any overspill on Freeview is a bonus.

But the 'overspill' is NOT just on Freeview it also on Sky in an old Telewest area.

Re: STV Glasgow on Virgin Media.

But then that'll be purely down to the postcode check Sky are doing won't it, compared to the headend broadcast restriction VM are doing.

So although there is some 'overspill' with Sky, it's probably a lot less than VM would have if they put the channel on the ex-TW headend

Either way, where the channel broadcasts will have been agreed with STV themselves, so not sure what VM could do about it without their agreement.

So VM are the only company to get it right, then?

Only thing good on STV Glasgow is that Football show on at 8.30pm and 11pm but I have Freeview to watch it.

When will it come to the South Lanarkshire area? It keeps getting advertised on stv saying it's on channel 159.

Virgin Media do not Believe in Local TV.

Glasgow council tax is to high compared to mine so moving to Glasgow is a no no as my big sis lives there LOL, but will give it a go on freeview thanks.

Before buying Freeview go to http://www.freeview.co.uk/availability to see what channels you will get.

Re: STV Glasgow on Virgin Media.

What cannot understand is that we have loads of International channels on VM. Yet, we cannot be allowed to have channels like STV Glasgow, unless you have freeview.

I am not sure if you can get STV Local Tv on Sky, l know you can get STV itself. I dont know about getting STV Glasgow on Freeview in London.

I would love to know what is happening locally, in other Cities. So to me if we can have International Channels in the London area, then why cant we have other City Local TV.

All channels on VM are there with the agreement of the broadcaster - that will include where you can receive them.

It won't be there - it will only be on a Glasgow area transmitter.

It called Blackhill transmitter is not even in Glasgow but in Salsburgh North Lanarkshire, Scotland near the town of Airdrie.

If it's near Airdrie that would explain why those in ex-TW areas can get it on Freeview but not Virgin Media

No. It only explains why we CAN get it on freeview. Not why we DON'T get it on VM.

Seeing one of the highlights of the channel is "Take the High Road" re-runs then its not going to get much attention from me!

Because the ex-TW headend is outside the broadcast area as agreed with STV.

STV Glasgow has now launch in old Telewest areas.

This has been explained on previous threads but I appreciate you may not have had a chance to read those replies. I hear your frustration but local TV stations can only afford to purchase rights for their region, not for the entire UK.

Rights issues are stopping them being broadcast outside their defined licence areas. On Sky, all the local channels are being encrypted, & availability will be determined by postcode area, the same as with the BBC & ITV varients.

Who says VM doesn't listen to it's customers?
