Copying settings from failed box

Hi all, sadly my TIVO box has died and is due for replacement tomorrow. I note there is an option to copy TIVO settings from one box to another via the TV Anywhere site. Does anybody know if the failed TIVO will still be visible for a time once the replacement box is installed so I can copy settings from the failed box to the new one?

Thanks in advance.

Can't remember if it was here or not, but someone provided a link where you can copy the series links over. Will try and find the link now, if someone else doesn't provide before hand.

Thank you, I think it's this one: http://anywhere.virginmedia.com/tivo/boxswap/

The boxswap part of the link makes it sound promising!

Yes, that's the link. The settings should be available for two weeks after the box is swapped out.

Fantastic, thanks Spiderplant. That's a very handy feature!

Guessing my new box should not be repeatedly rebooting after copying the settings? :-/

Seems me new box was faulty too! Completely dead an hour after install. Now have a Samsung box which is (touch wood) up and running. Good service from VM and they had replaced the newly failed box within two hours. I've now managed to copy the series links over. I'm not seeing any planned recordings yet but I'm assuming I need to be a pit patient and let it finish downloading all the EPG data and sort itself out?

Yes, it takes a couple of hours. Do the series links show in Manage My Series Links already? (I've never actually seen that app work. It doesn't like accounts with more than 10 TiVos :))

Thanks for letting me know. Yes the series links are showing and I've just started seeing planned recordings. It actually works beautifully (now I have a working box!) and has saved me a huge amount of time. Would be good for the techs/CS to do this as standard on a box swap, the ones that came out to me hadn't even heard of the feature. Certainly takes some of the pain away about having lost all my recordings :)

This thread is from 2014 and the link no longer works.

I've gone onto the TV Anywhere site and cannot find 'Copy TiVo settings', despite what the instructions say.

Can anyone help? I'm just trying to familiarise myself with this facility to be ready to transfer Series Links etc for when my V6 arrives.

Cheers.

You'll only see it if you've got more than one TiVo already or if you've had a box swapped within the last 14 days.

Re: Copying settings from failed box

Just out of interest I had a look at this and it shows 4 TiVo boxes although we only have,( and have only ever had) 2. Does any one know the reason for that?

---------- Post added at 11:04 ---------- Previous post was at 10:11 ----------

After having a further look at Manage my TiVo it shows that 2 of the boxes are disconnected, but I still don't know where they came from.

Yes, there are reports of phantom TiVos on both the browser and app versions of TV Anywhere.
I have one too. Have you had your golden ticket for a free 2TB Virgin TV V6 yet?:xmas:

Do you know if it will also copy across the list of my deleted recordings; to prevent duplicates being recorded on the V6?

I wonder if they could ever devise a system where actual recordings could be uploaded to VM and dropped onto the new box, now that would be very useful.

I imagine that copyright would prevent this even if it were to be technically possible though.

I think the Cloud method of programme retrieval will happen before anything can be done about that, Richard. And then we will be subject to a time window in which to catch up, I suspect.

The answer to your first question is that your deleted recording list is not copied and you should expect your new V6 to record some episodes you've already watched.

I've got a second box appear in my TV Anywhere app so something weird is going off.
Add that to the 319 On Demand errors and the slowness of the original TiVo and Virgin are not having a good time.

The V6 better kick some ass

Thank you.

Still, Suggestions, Series Links and Wish lists is a great help. When these are reinstalled, I imagine it will simply rebuild my planner to what it is now by using these settings.

All sorts of odd niggling errors have been reported since the update.

I'm trying to watch things that won't be repeated before Thursday and I've found that one programme only copied the first 3 minutes!

It was outside the 7 day time window, but luckily within 28 days, so I could use the app on my TV to watch it.

Odd, the link from 2014 is now working for anyone who needs to use it!

It says that my request has been added to the TiVo queue and that it will take about half an hour.

SP said earlier in the thread (in 2014) that it might take a couple of hours though.

I hope that the national fault (mentioned in the V6 thread) with updating information won't affect this.

Still hasn't worked, so i've just tried again.

I rang 150 for advice and got passed to four people in India, only to be eventually told that this facility does not exist and that I'll have to input them all again!!!

I'll see if it works overnight and ring during the day if it doesn't work to see if I can get any sense :D

The system to transfer Series Links, Thumbs up and Wish lists is not working.

I'm not sure if this is affecting everyone or just TiVo to V6 customers. There is no timescale to get this fixed, but if it's not done soon the settings will be automatically deleted.

I have had to waste time and go to the inconvenience/trouble of setting up the ones that I can remember again and am missing episodes of the ones that I can't remember.

If i'd have been told about this beforehand, i'd have made a record of them.

Re: Copying settings from failed box

I have had two TiVos swapped (and the newest one I got last week has problems) and in neither case have I seen a link to copy settings.

It's annoying following the instructions and not seeing the link. On the plus side at least I only have programmes in my record list that I actually want.

Re: Copying settings from failed box

I successfully copied series links from TiVo to V6 last Monday - only series links, not all three.
Might be worth doing one set at a time to see if that works.

This link should allow you to copy things across if you have had the box swap within the last 14 or 30 days.

I was told on here that it's 14 days, but told by faults yesterday that it's 30 days- i'm working on a 14 day deadline.

Go into Settings->Network, and make sure it is connecting successfully and at regular intervals. Try doing an extra connection.

Many thanks for confirming this.

VM CS seem to think that this could be a factor, so when they contact me with an update I can let them know it worked for someone else in a similar situation.

I've set up a poll to see how widespread this problem is, the links here if you (or anyone else) wishes to take part:

Heard nothing since last Monday, so spoke to VM again today.

VM cannot fix the fault, so have passed it onto an external company that made the software.

They don't have a SLA, so there is no timescale.

The problem is that I believe that you only have 14 days to do this, but 8 have passed already.

You may be right, Richard, but is this such a big deal?

I'd rather that VM were trying to restore services to those with problems than fixing these relatively minor irritants.

It's not a minor irritant to me and I will be calling them back on Monday.

Re: Copying settings from failed box

Well, after being erroneously told that there was a 30 day window in which to transfer data across, it turns out that my suspicions were correct and that it's only 14 days.

After being led a merry dance for a fortnight, I was told that it's TiVo who hold the data and that they had wiped it.

I received a credit to my account for the inconvenience etc.

The lesson to be learnt is to make your own record if upgrading to a V6, it's going to be a pain inputting them all again, but at least you won't miss any programmes like me

I'm currently waiting for VM to get back to me to explain if it's a general thing that upgrading will often result in lost data, or something peculiar to my account.

After a quick search of the board I hope this is the appropriate thread for a question I have - when copying series links etc. from TiVo A to TiVo B using TV Anywhere do the links on TiVo B get overwritten by the links from A, or do they just get added to those copied across?

It actually added to the ones set up on TiVo B but screwed around with the settings on the series links copied across creating all sorts of bizarre clashes that didn't exist on TiVo A. It kind of defeated the object of the exercise which was to use B to record stuff on while we are on holiday, as that one is fairly new and has loads more space. Ended up deleting the clashing links on B and keeping them on A.
