Are New Bundles cheaper if on VIP?

We are on the VIP pack and have everything and just wanted to know if we move to the new bundles would it be cheaper?

thinking bout calling Virgin but wanted to just check 1st as was not sure if its just a rename for the collections.

I would think the best bet would be to give Virgin a ring, because I don't think anyone here will be able to give you the information exactly without knowing things like what loyalty discounts you already have and, more to the point, what discounts you'll be able to negotiate if you talk to them nicely enough on the 'phone.

Good luck!

I'd just hang fire until all the new 'Big Bundles' have been officially announced (should be in the next week or two) and see what their prices are as they are only currently advertising the 'Big Kahuna' at the moment. This will then give you a better idea of what's on offer and see whether they will benefit you or not.

Re: Are New Bundles cheaper if on VIP?

Well just rang Virgin up and asked about the new bundles and as we are on VIP it worked out cheaper to move to the Big Daddy and saved £3 month.

yes £3 a month cheaper is not much of a saving but hey ho its a saving on what we were paying for the same thing.

Also who ever though up the new names need to be shot!!!!

Had the usual advertising gumph through the door this morning. I thought they would have been advertising the new bundles in it but it was just the same old ones as before. Seems a waste of money on their part if they are all changing soon.

Re: Are New Bundles cheaper if on VIP?

So VIP is rebranded as Big Daddy, surely Big Kahuna deserves to be the top package name, that is by far the best choice! In all seriousness, although I agree the names are suspect, the marketing team have won because people are talking about them already. It seems to be the latest craze to give things a stupid name and customers talk about the brand.

My contract is up in a couple of months so I'll be keeping a close eye on the new prices when announced

Re: Are New Bundles cheaper if on VIP?

Not on VIP, but noticed that changing to this new "Kahuna" would save me over £10 a month.
Drawback is the Tivo I have is 1TB and I have an additional V+.

Called anyway, and they have agreed to switch to the new package whilst keeping the Tivo and V+. Also negotiated an upgrade on the phone to include unlimited mobile calls at no extra cost .

Result ! - pays to be polite

Hugh 19-05-2014 14:54

Re: Are New Bundles cheaper if on VIP?

Absolutely - I kept my 1TB TiVo when I changed as well.

Re: Are New Bundles cheaper if on VIP?

Received letter over weekend to change from xl to big kahuna for £75pm. Made call almost agreed when I mentioned free Netflix offer. Call transferred to someone who knew nothing about the new offers to existing customers! Still wanted to charge me full price. Transferred to retentions. Agreed the new package with one tivo and one VHD box plus netflix £75 pm saving £20pm. Half hour call but happy
:)

The big daddy is only one box, you pay extra for the second

I think Ben has already stated that all Big Bundles are single TiVo only with no second box.

This means that all those with a Collection which has a second box need to factor this in.

I hate two box installs, whoop whoop

Super hub can you collect?

Big bundle would save me 50p per month, and offer faster BB . However it would also cost me £20 for a superhub. Has anyone collected one from a shop. I have one locally ?

I've just had a letter through the post saying it would benefit me to upgrade to the Big Kahuna 30 bundle. I've recently got a better deal to match what I already have so does anyone know what the 30 bit means?

Yours is the second reference to Big Kahuna 30 I've seen today and I, too, am interested in knowing what the 30 means.

Does the letter not give any detailed content of the bundle?

Nope nothing. Thing is I've just got TVXL, BroadbandXL, PhoneXL and kept my existing two Tivos including line rental up front for a very good price. I originally phoned up and wanted to go for the Big Kahulalall but the lady in Scotland told me the computer said no and the Premium package was what was being offered. I'm quite happy with the offer so what could this possibly be? This letter has been posted quite a while after phoning them. Mmmmmm.

It strange that VM say that Big Kahuna is cheap, the XL package that we are on is cheaper.

We contacted CS and wanted to go in for that cheapest bundle going for everything - and they said that they were sorry, as we were already on the cheaper budle, and didn't need to change - £4.00 per month cheaper.

Hugh 28-05-2014 22:25

Re: Are New Bundles cheaper if on VIP?

Well, Big Kahuna is £60.99 (plus calls).

Is your current package (not including Sports and Films) less than this?

clayts 28-05-2014 23:21

Re: Are New Bundles cheaper if on VIP?

I got the Big Kahuna 30 letter too.

Given my current deal without sports/movies/HD clocks in at £46 odd (which includes a loyalty discount) I really do not think I'll be any better off thank you...

TV XL, BB L, Tivo, Talk Weekends 30.65
Line rental 15.99
sky sports/movies/hd 41.25

Total 87.89

If they can offer me the same deal for less than 87.89 bring it on. But that hefty bonus will make it impossible, I feel.

Still, nothing ventured. nothing gained - I'll give them a ring when I get time

Someone will be able to confirm for me, or correct me if I'm wrong, but I think if you have wireless broadband in excess of 30mb then you'll already have a super hub. And you don't need a super hub 2 to get the current maximum of 152 because the super hub 1 can handle up to 300.

All I'm saying is people signing up for these new bundles should be wary about having to pay*installation costs for upgraded equipment when their current kit will handle their new requirements.

That's an original (pre-Super) Hub. Max speed is 20Mbps, so you would need a replacement.

Re: Are New Bundles cheaper if on VIP?

I cannot get my head round these new bundles, I used to be on a bundle of my own creation until Jan that came to £87 + line rental

The bundle included
Large broadband up to 20mb
XL TV
TiVo 500gb
Sky sports + movies
Premium HD £7 add on
Loyalty bonus

Now the new bundle big daddy I can get all the above and more for £58 + line rental:confused: so saving £29 with a far superior bundle, how do VM do it?

If true how do I upgrade to this new premium bundle as I am half way through a new one year contract on the Family Essential collection?

I think that might be an error on the mobile version of the VM website as the Big Daddy is £95 + LR.

However with the package you mention above, have a look at Big Kahuna with Sky Sports & Movies as that is £78 per month + LR. You'll also have to pay the HD charge so that would be £85 + LR but you'll get 152Mb broadband too for a couple of quid less.

You should be able to change mid-contract but will probably have to start a new 12 month contract.

Thanks for that, sadly I got excited for a while but yes it seems to be an error on the mobile version of their website :(

Just had a call from them offering the Big Bang bundle for £35.99 including the phone rental. Would have taken them up on it if the 100mb BB upload wasn't so slow.

Spoke to retentions , was advised as spiderplant said I should have been upgraded last time - so sorry etc.
New superhub 2 coming out Monday - no charge !

As far as I can see my package is the same but will go down by £5 per month. Yes its a new 12 month contract. :)

No wonder my tame nerd set up a infinty line for the other PC:erm:

Re: Are New Bundles cheaper if on VIP?

Called up about the Big Kahuna offer - was basically told that moving to the new package would increase the speed of the internet to 152 Mb/s, but that for that I'd need to pay £20 for delivery of the Superhub 2.

Said no, as the saving on the new package was £1 per month (we have a second box, so the price for that had to be added on). So basically it would take us nearly two years to break back even - and while the increase in speed would be good, I've never had an issue with 'only' 60 Mb/s.

Sky look to have some new deals out this week... wondering if it's worth haggling with Virgin again now.

What speed do you currently have?

I currently have 60 Mb/s. And I know 152 Mb/s is a lot quicker, but I've never had buffering issues with my current speed. Faster internet would probably only make me download more rubbish I don't need ;)

I was asking because that means Virgin were trying to sell you something you don't need. Your current router will be fine for 152mbs, so you don't need to pay them £20 for a new one.

Oh! Well, thank you for that! I did wonder, because I called up twice, and the first one said nothing about the new router, while the second one did (and I had been intending to say yes until the person tried to add on the router).

I find it annoying (and surprising) that their sales team seem to be abroad. You'd think they'd want their best people on sales.

i rang up today i was paying 132 a month for top every bar broadband it would cost me more to have faster broadband than i had but i don't need 100mb so downgraded to 50 and saved myself near 10quid still cheaper than i was paying

They tried that on me too. £10 per month saving and BB up from 60 to 152mb everything the same. They wanted £20 for shub2 delivery. I refused as have SHUB 1 and not bothered about the speed increase but want the price reduction.

Email arrive confirming a £2 reduction not £10 and a £20 charge. Then spent an hour on the phone with them trying to sort it out. The out come was they can't sort it and I need to write to customer complaints. They did adjust my bill to take off the £20 SHUB 2 charge but made it 5.99 rather than the zero they agreed

Bunch of useless clowns
