Not sure if this is true or not but i got told earlier that Liberty Global and AMC are in talks.
Only thing i can think of is it has something to do with AMC buying the CBS channels.

It will be interesting to see how this one pans out. Will they just ship in all the content they already have and we see the back of some of the big dramas that seem to rate ok? Or will they build on the shows they have that rate well?

Viacom to examine the possibility of making 5*, 5USA or both pay-tv Channels.

Quote:

The American conglomerate also intends to examine the possibility it could convert one or more of Channel 5’s secondary channels into a subscription business. Viacom also owns the major film studio Paramount, which could provide premium programming.

I certainly wouldn't pay any extra for the Channel 5 stable of offshoot channels.

To be fair I think Viacom are just thinking about moving 5* and 5USA off Freeview and Freesat also putting them on higher packages like "L" or "XL" Packages on Virgin Media.

Like Sky did with Sky Sports News some years back.

I guess until we know what's in the channel(s), it's hard to judge their value. I imagine they would just be in M+.

Viacom to increase Channel 5 budget.

http://www.theguardian.com/media/201...udget-increase

Quote:

Viacom intends to significantly increase Channel 5's £200m annual programming budget, with a much bigger focus on making original shows, and pledged not to convert any channels to pay-TV.

Philippe Dauman, the chief executive of Viacom, said programming was the "lifeblood" of its business and to expect significant increases in budget.

"We are a pureplay content company around the world, this is our lifeblood," he said, speaking to the Guardian. "We spend $3bn (£1.8bn) on programming [and] it is increasing year after year in mid to high single digits percentages. Content has never been more valuable."

Geordie Shore produced for MTV owned by Viacom , if this is the quality we can expect I'll give it a miss. Hopefully the new owners will give us some original UK content rather than be another channel focused on and full of overrated American shows.

And we often hear their daily message of "believe in better" but alas most of us know that is just pure ******** anyway.

And the other companies are just as bad as well one suspects so its not just a Sky problem.

Edit. Viacom own MTV. Was confused for a bit there!

I would think that it will be a similar arrangement to Sky and Pick ie shown first on the pay channels and then repeated later on the FTA channel.

But Virgin did launch Vintage on 'Easter Tuesday' last year.

Easter Tuesday means an day after Bank Holiday Easter Monday.

Aye sky sports HD will be good. but i genuinely do not know why people would pay extra for the HD sky sports then sky sports is already so blooming expensive. for 25 quid we should get a hug off rupert murdoch as well as sky sports in HD. A lot of you are in VIP and get it for free though which is fair enough. i should really look into VIP since i'm on XL for everything bar phone so would only be a few more quid i'd imagine??

Does MB know how long the BT sport contract is with virgin media? it surely wont continue in XL after it ends due to champions league rights?

By my reckoning Den ,

BT Sport joined VM XL TV in August 2013 on a 3 yr deal so the deal should expire August 2016.

The champions league on BT will start September 2015 with the final at the end of May 16 so the first season will be covered who knows after that.

Perhaps the first season might be covered MM but don't put your money on it as we don't know the finite details of their contract as there might be certain clauses in there for all we know.

Very true for instance we could see the launch of a new channel for champions league and Europa league games , its the same for those of us getting it with BT Broadband/Infinity I'm sure at some point a price will be introduced.

Just been thinking Sky Sports 1 HD and Sky Sports 2 HD did launch in August 2010 so maybe the rest of the Sky Sports HD may launch anytime up to August 2014!

My take, for what it's worth, is that all might not be lost. I agree, the SS HD channels will not launch tomorrow.

BUT

Was it ever realistic to think they would? If they are to ever launch, those that pay the £7 HD charge will have to agree to an increase to £10 to keep VM in line with Sky. They'll have to opt in.

SO

Is it possible that the channels' availability may be announced tomorrow in advance of a real launch some weeks ahead?

Just a thought...

Well, Liberty Global's results are due out tomorrow so then would be a good time to announce such a development. What else might they announce VM-wise tomorrow?
- Sale of ADSL customer base to BT/PlusNet, Sky or TalkTalk?
- Details of Smallworld rebranding.
- More details on LG-VM integration cost savings.
- Growth in revenue-per-customer but decrease in number of customers.

Mike Fries mentioned LG could start an OTT service of their own recently , personally can't see it being in the UK as its a somewhat crowded market but who knows ?

I really do think a Smallworld brand will be axe by October (So to get start getting Smallworld viewers to move over to TiVo and other things).

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 2

http://www.theguardian.com/media/201...d-play-package

Virgin Media is aiming to offer consumers a one-stop shop for services by launching what it claims is the UK's first "quad-play" packages – TV, broadband, landline phone and mobile – significantly upping the ante with rivals in the increasingly cut-throat battle in the telecommunications market.

Virgin Media will this week launch a range of new packages – with names such as the Big Kahuna and Big Bang – from as little as £30 a month marketed as the simplest way for customers to get all their household communications from one provider.

The launch of the first tranche of bundles, which are designed to be flexible and allow customers to bolt on options such as Sky's sport and movie channels, will be made available to Virgin Media's customers from this week.

Virgin Media has 3.7 million TV customers, 4.4 million broadband customers, 4.1 million landline users and 3 million on mobile contracts.

The company is aiming to leverage its impressive result to date of 66% of its customer base taking three products, BSkyB has so far managed to get 37% of its 10 million customers to take three of its products.

Virgin Media intends to start offering the new quad-play bundles to the wider market from the end of the month.

Yes, But Old Boy, does this mean that this new deal is for current customers, NOT for new customers.

I believe the best thing for customers of VM or BT or Sky, is the cost. is to offer 'cheapness' in the market.

Things are tough financially, for everyone BUT, áll bills go up. So companies should realise this instead of making massive profits, like Sky, there profits have been very high.

Excellent, that will work well for people who's existing separate tv, home phone, broadband and mobile deals are due to end at exactly the same time.
