Samsung Galaxy S5 & New Gear watches

The new galaxy S5 just being announced.
*
Cat 4 LTE with up to 8 bands. 802.11ac*Wi-Fi with MiMO, too. And a Download Booster, which combines Wi-Fi with LTE. 1GB in 30 seconds.

Centre stage is its quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor, which runs at a blistering 2.5GHz. 2GB of RAM.

The phone comes with Android 4.4 KitKat and a new version of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface.

Meanwhile, a 2800mAh battery should give the S5 enough juice to easily last a day

there’s both 4G LTE (supporting the speedy Category 4) and fifth generation Wi-Fi 802.11ac and 2X2 MiMo,

One major improvement over the S4 is IP67 waterproofing, bringing the S5 into line with Sony’s Xperia phones.

It weighs 145g and measures up at 142 x 72.5 x 8.1mm

Also the Gear 2 and gear fit.
all to be available from April 11TH

Stephen 24-02-2014 21:52

Re: Samsung Galaxy S5

You forgot the Gear Neo too. It drops the camera that the Gear 2 has.

All three running Tizen, Samsung's own OS.

both the Gear 2 and Neo feature 4GB of internal storage, 300mAh battery, an inbuilt IR blaster (paired with Samsung's WatchOn app) for controlling your TV, IP67 rating for water-resistance, Bluetooth 4.0 for connecting to a portable media player and heart rate monitor (located under the watch face) to aid with fitness-tracking.
If the price is under £200 I may get one.

Unfortunately for Samsung when they fecked up the S3 upgrade i decided enough was enough. I intend to upgrade to a different phone by a different company when my upgrade comes round. I am looking at HTC or Sony.

I bought the Nexus 5 instead and in May am looking forward to dumping high priced contracts

Nexus 5 is great. This seems a bit meh from Samsung and as usual you'll be months behind Android updates, if you get them at all.

yes Carphonewarehouse incredible value

I doubt I will ever have a contract again and I doubt I will ever buy a Samsung phone again . I do not like touchwiz and I do not like the fact you have to install custom software to get rid of it. I do not like all the Samsung bloat and the fact you have to root the phone to get rid of it. Then I also do not like the fact Samsung phones look girlie lol

Ive tried a smartwatch and found it pretty much pointless

Specs look ok but not really a massive step up from the S4, that seems to be the Samsung way.

It's not really fair to compare the Nexus with the Galaxy S range. The Nexus reduces it's price by compromising features like slower memory and average camera. It's still a great device though and I'm not sure the extra bits in the Galaxy are worth the extra cash.

The heart rate monitor of the S5 is a bit of a con, you can get an app to do that on any phone with a flash.

The S5 will be my next upgrade. My blackberry has had a good run, but it just doesn't cut the mustard any more

I think most manufacturers do that now anyway. But after the debacle of my S3 Samsung have lost my custom forever for phones now. Their spec might be impressive but not to a level where I'd take that over reliability which is what I had with my old 4s.

My thoughts exactly. Bought an HTC One, won't go back to Sony.

The trouble with Apple is it charges a premium price for something that is no better then the others.

This was my thinking many months back, Samsungs handling of the updates has been terrible. Apart from that the S3 has been solid and does everything I want it too and actually see no real reason to upgrade it. Originally thought I would switch to a Nexus but even with the nice new features of the Nexus and S5, there is nothing on them that really wows me. 2GB of memory would be nice though.

At the moment i am considering HTC or Sony, the devil will be ice skating to work before i buy Samsung again and if VM don't have ether of those phones when i upgrade it will be a move of supplier as well.

I highly recommend Three, especially if you get an all inclusive package usually. Not been able to fault their service since I switched from VM and you get the free upgrade to 4G data when they upgrade your area, which all the new phones would make good use of.

Only 2 lol. I love my Note 3 with its 3Gb RAM. Just got the Kit Kat update a couple of weeks ago too. Everything working great.

They don't always mess updates up.

Qtx 01-04-2014 22:50

Re: Samsung Galaxy S5

3GB is even better :) I did look at the Note 3 in the shop and it does look nice but it seems huge compared the S3. The actual screensize isn't much bigger but certainly looks much bigger.

The extremely long wait for the 4.3 update on the S3, as well as the fact they pushed out a bad update leaving some phones working really bad, upset a lot of people. On top of that they took over a month to send out a fix after they pulled the update.

Luckily I didn't update at the time so didn't affect me but the wait annoyed me. Now im on 4.3, happy to stay with it, so less worried about the updates at this point. You lose App Ops security on 4.4 onwards which I know some will not want to lose. Only thing on 4.4 that looks interesting is the NFC host card emulation.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S5 & New Gear watches

Honestly the Note isn't really all that big once you've used it for a few days. I certainly could never go back to anything smaller. iPhones seem like little toy phones after having the note for so long now. Totally dinky.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S5 & New Gear watches

I had issues with most Samsung phones after the SGH-T100 and stayed away until they resolved there issue. Thankfully they adopted Android and I decided to go for the S5 for my upgrade having used HTC for years.

I've gotta admit TouchWiz is bloated compared to HTC's Sense but for the most part of I've turned of features I have no need for. I went for the S5 mainly because I like the idea of a removeable battery over Boom Sound. I'm not 16 and have no need to listen to crap music on a full bus just annoy the public. Any music I listen to I always use my headphones and I prefer watching films on a big screen. Water resistance is nice, cant say I am in a hurry to dunk it in water but its a comfort knowing its a little more tough around rain etc. I've played with an S4 and I'll admit this is probably not an upgrade worth doing but I came from a HTC Sensation XE so I'm noticing the difference.
