Re: VIP or XL ???

The packages are now referred to as "collections" as detailed here

http://store.virginmedia.com/bundles...llections.html

Going by memory i think XL equated to what is now Premiere.

Re: VIP or XL ???

thanks just rang up to be told I am not on XL but already on VIP even though my bill says I am on XL Package???
Asked if I could take off Sky Movies but was told that its not worth it as it would not change the amount I pay. Is this correct?

Sounds like a load of cobblers form a lazy drone who couldn't be bothered to work out a price for you. Ring retentions to get the best price, preferably armed with a quote from Sky.

Wife asked CS about removing Sky Movies and Sky Sports on Saturday - got exactly the same response no difference in cost - baffled.

Re: VIP or XL ???

I can only think they mean if you want to stay on the VIP bundle - then you pay the same price whether you have sky sports/movies or not - which seems crazy. Answer is not to be on the VIP bundle any longer.

You don't have to have one of their pre-selection collections bundles. I have TV XL, Phone M, BB L - which isn't any of their collections. Just choose what you want and haggle a price. - very often the website price can be cut back if you agree to sign up for 12 months/ threaten to leave.

Current VIP Collection = £120.44 (1st Feb 2014 price as now advertised on the web site)

Premiere Collection = £67.99
+ Talk Unlimited Extra = £82.99
+ Talk International £2 = £84.99
+ Sky Sports HD = £119.24

So just taking off Sky Movies by itself doesn't save much

Removing the whole Sky Premiums Collection should save money compared with VIP Collection

Ben, As always you are clear and concise.

Can you confirm that the prices you are using here are the post-increase prices and that the website prices currently showing are all the new prices as well? Premiere was £62.99, new price £67.99?

Thanks.

Re: VIP or XL ???

Yes, by the looks of it, the website is now showing the 1st Feb prices, as line rental is showing at £15.99, rather than the current £14.99

The price I used above were from the website, so will therefore also be post 1st Feb prices

Thank you. Those who need to compare their post-increase price with standard, post-increase prices can now do so via the website.

£16 for line rental ! - it sure it was only about £11 a few years ago - they're having a laugh at the expense of their mugs/customers.

Of course you can still get line rental from Virgin Media for less than £11 per month. Offer available to ALL customers.

Re: VIP or XL ???

I assume the line rental increase is not added on to customers bills if they have already paid their £120 line rental saver for the year???

I paid mine in August so I assume I'm covered until next August without increase?

Correct

This is one advantage of doing the line saver - it's a big lump to have taken in one go, but ultimately works out cheaper in the long run.

Re: VIP or XL ???

I just dropped Sky Movies and Sky Sports from my VIP package this morning. No longer on any collection as I've kept the phone and broadband at the same levels and have saved £41.25 a month.

The £15/£16 line rental charge is just the same with other companies l am afraid and yes it is a rip off but companies know that people who need landlines are a easy target for them.

Mr K 25-11-2013 12:22

Re: VIP or XL ???

So has the price of line saver increased now, or will it increase in February ? i.e. is there nothing to stop customers ringing up and paying in advance now at the 'old' rate ?

It goes up on the 1st Feb to £128.

If you haven't already got it, there is nothing stopping you doing it now. If you do already have it, then you can't renew until you are advised it's coming to the end

Thanks, so potentially a £72 saving over the year if you sign up in January. Wonder why VM don't promote this more ? ;)

Can you? Are you not referring to the upfront payment? If so, you might as well say line rental is free if you pay upfront.

No different from "renting" your gas, water or electric meter - at least with Virgin you have a choice of having the service, but with the others, you have no choice (which really winds me up !!)

Eh? How can you say that? The payment is for your line rental, so it's not free

Ah just read this thread:-
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/59...on-page-2.html

I'm on a 2 year discounted retention deal so guess I'm not eligible. Thought it was too good to be true.

The OP said line rental was £11 per month - it's not if you've got to pay upfront. If you could get it for £11 pm without paying up front, I'm sure we'd all take that offer! ;)

BenMcr 25-11-2013 14:03

Re: VIP or XL ???

Technically it's £10 a month if you stay for the whole 12 months.

It'll be £10.66 a month once the upfront payment goes to £128

Of course I'm referring to Line Rental Saver.

IMHO It's a complete no brainer for loyal customers to pay the equivalent of £10 per month, rather than £15 or £16 per month.

Nowhere else will you get such a great return on your money.

Just rung up, I am eligible for Line rental saver, despite having a loyalty discount, so gone for it. Being able to pay by credit card is a bonus, particularly if you've got a cashback card.

Can confirm it is still £120, (says £128 on the website http://store.virginmedia.com/phone/a...tal-saver.html). So a £5 a month saving going up to £6 when the new line rental comes in. No brainer.

"She who has to be consulted" (and apparently obeyed!!) Has just rung CS back. Based on the info provided. we are now being offered a reduction of £32.96 if we remove sky sport and sky movies.

This is without paying the line rental in advance (which we are going to talk about tonight apparently - means we will be paying line rental in advance).

Thanks for help

Terry

So the new VIP Price of £120.44 implies an increase of £4.95. Is there any increase to the extra box charge as I've not had a letter yet?

On VIP with a few extra bits (3rd box etc) and increase is 4.95 so no change in additional box charge
