Global radio have lost there appeal they will now have to sell of stations so they can covert Real Radio into Heart.

Global radio do not have the right to appeal this verdict

Smooth, Heart and Capital will continue where they can Real radio is likely to be re branded heart FM in areas where real radio broadcasts but heart FM doesn't

The Rejection of appeal presumably will mean Global Radio will have to sell stations in 7 areas as competition commission previously ruled.

The stations Global will be required to sell are as follows:

East Midlands: Smooth OR Capital
Cardiff and South Wales: Real OR Capital
North Wales: Real OR Heart
Greater Manchester and the North-West: Capital OR Real XS with either Real or Smooth
North-East: Real OR Smooth OR Capital
South and West Yorkshire: Real OR Capital
Central Scotland: Real OR Capital

I doubt that it will be that easy. If they keep Real XS, it would have to operate within the Real XS programme format as a licence condition. A rock oriented Capital wouldn't be able to take networked programmes from London. It's also unlikely that Ofcom would approve a change of format giving 2 stations the same format. It will be interesting to see Global's next move.

Agreed, in Wales I think they will keep Real and rebrand it Heart and ditch Capital. Who would take over would be interesting. Jack FM would be a front runner as they are expanding across the South West, but again the format is the same as Heart.

The change log is after the event though. There's a little useful information in these threads it'd be nice to be able to filter that into it's own thread for discussion without "fantasy channel will launch on fantasy date, according to insiders wink wink". According to these threads Sky Atlantic has launched 20 times over.

Indeed, you appear to have appointed yourself moderator.

Given that Virgin Media do not pre-announce channels (they just appear and they send something in the post to you well after the event), such a confirmation thread is pointless.

Granted, we know that the new BBC HD and +1 channels are coming, but that's only because the BBC have made it known that this is what will happen.

Everyone needs to understand on this thread that the information on here is largely stuff that is gleaned from various sources, not all reliable, (and there are a few deliberate falsehoods too from the trolls) and that very little is actually 'in the bag'.

A confirmation thread would soon die a death, I think!

And how do you propose people split them into actually coming and rumours?

Nothing is certain of coming until it arrives. And then you can see them on the change log.

So, as people have suggested, use the change log for certainty and leave this thread for rumours, speculation and insider (not guaranteed) information and enjoy the fun that this thread is.

Hmm we'll obviously see as always but before or after the new BBC hd channels thats the question now I think. I'm guessing just before. I know you have no dates.

Well, not before time! It should be launching with the other missing Sky channels, although I don't know if Sky Poker is included! We should have them by Christmas.

SKY Atlantic, according to posts here last year, was supposed to launch by Christmas 2012. Have SKY and Virgin finally agreed a carriage deal?

I'm not having a go at anyone but all this speculation without confirmation of source is becoming tiresome. Long term users of the forum, and viewers of the Coming Soon thread have seen this type of stuff over and over for years. We've seen launch dates come and go for SKY Atlantic time and time again.

Can anyone confirm anything sold at all? Give us something credible to get excited about. I'm looking to return to Virgin in the next couple of months. It would be good to know if I'll have access to SKY Atlantic upon my return.

Not particularly. Virgin have make some significant changes over the past 12 months in terms of their TV packages. More HD channels, BT Sports in XL plus Netflix.

There are a core of shows we watch on SKY Atlantic such as The Borgias, The Following, Boardwalk Empire, Game Of Thrones and currently Hello Ladies. There are others ways to get these shows both legally and illegally. I've got Now TV built into my Smart TV so if I was really desperate to watch SKY Atlantic I could always take out a NOW TV subscription.

Through my work I can get a great deal with Virgin Media. The XL package with £15.00 off per month for 18 months, with a free 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. No half price for 6 months but the package is only going to cost £48.00 per month for the next year and a half. Effectively I'm getting line rental for free. I'm just trying to chase the best deals.

If I ever came back to VM thats all I'd be willing to subscribe to , their Sky Sports and Sky premium HD pricing is too expensive and doesnt include all channels in HD , I'm interested to see what Sky offer you when you ring to cancel I've had some excellent discounts thanks in part to the current competitive climate.

Turner Network Television and Turner Classic Movies where both on air together for a short period of time. TNT used to show movies but got major recognition in the UK as the home of WCW wrestling. TNT dropped movies from their schedule which spawned the launch of TCM. TCM started in late 1999 but TNT didn't close until 8 months later. TCM did however move on the EPG to takeover TNT's spot on the EPG.

I really, really dislike Sky with a vengence but looking at the prices, even without any half price offers, moving back down to 60Mb BB and staying with VM for landline, I could save £30 a month but I would lose BT sport. All depends what the price rises are going to look like on the VIP pack come January.

There is no evidence that Atlantic is coming to Virgin. Equally there is no evidence that it isn't. Nobody outside Sky or Virgin actually knows, although some posters feel they're in a position to be confident that it is, whilst others are less confident.

Personally, I can't see it.

Nobody knows if the sky channels are coming on this forum because virgin aren't going to tell us. Just take as a very big pinch of salt, and try not worry about dates and launch dates virgin will say nothing any way and will launch sky channels when they are good and ready too. If that's this year as some say good if not then sod sky and if sky 3D not there I will throw a big hissy fit like the world never seen before

Hopefully it wont :-)

So another week closer to 2014, and still no missing Sky Channels that many people on here are saying are Coming Soon and some have done for a long time!

I for one very much doubt an official list even exist of 'Coming Soon' channels, its not as if VM execs all sit round and scribble down some channel names on to post it notes then leave them lying about for 'insiders' to share with random people ;-)

End of Autumn is fast approaching though..

In meteorological terms, it starts on the 1st December.
In Astronomical terms (and some CF posters terms) its the 21st December..

Either way, I doubt any Sky Channels will launch before then.. and if they do happen to launch, I wonder how accurate these supposedly leaked lists will be..since no one is posting channel names or even how many are on this so called list.
Infact I think MB did post a list of Sky channels that were on a list to launch.. wonder if that is the same list that everyone apparently has

Morning all another dreaded Monday ahead. Hopefully something exciting will happen this week to keep me entertained in work.

Aye I don't see the sky channels coming either. 1) sky are *******s 2) MB only sees it as rumours so unless he's not hearing or seeing the same concrete info as others surely it doesn't add up

But I'll always keep the faith for the future

I'd quite like media boy to announce some American news channels and German channels to launch this week... Completely out of the blue would be most welcome!

No offence meant here but you seriously expect people to believe there's a list going around of the channels that are to arrive ? Negotiations are commercially sensitive not something you write down on a list and let every tom , dick and Harry view , the truth is only people high up in both organisations know what's going on the rest is just rumours and speculation.

Providing it's a decent bitrate. Perhaps worth noting that on this side of the Atlantic, the jump from 576 -> 1080 is not so attractive as 480 -> 1080 was for the Americans, especially those brought up with their analogue TV.

This list of channels thing keeps on popping up in this thread.

If you are not able divulge details of channels on the list, what can you or anyone else on here tell us about the list itself?

Who produced the list and how high up the Virgin Media food chain are they?

Who has seen the original list and how high up the Virgin Media foot chain are they?

Is there any proof at all that this list exists or are we going from info from a friend of a friend of a friend?

How old is the list?

Are the channels on the list 100% set in stone to launch? (i.e. Is it a list of channel Virgin want to launch, or are going to launch?)

What is it that makes people so sure on here that the channels in the list will actually launch?

You forgot one question:

Is the list created by the VM PR department in the hope of using the rumour mill as a way of retaining customers, who live in hope a certain channel might come their way....soon? :dozey:

The Sky Atlantic in SD on a Now TV box looks good - not great, but certainly good enough. If we got Atlantic catch up and On Demand content, that would most likely be slightly better picture quality even if only in SD, judging from what I've seen with Now TV.

The ones in bold have recently been excluded in a deal with Viacom so not likely soon.

Out of the list, Pop & Chart Show are most likely as I believe MB said the deal was up with CSC Media in May.

Universal HD also looks likely as NBC Universal changed their response to "We are currently discussing with Virgin how to get this channel on their service" from "If you want it, we suggest pressuring Virgin to get it"

Disney HD is likely to as mentioned before about a channel sync with UPC

Horse and Country, well I think that is one of the last on the list as the demand for it is rather small compared to some of the others you have listed.

I want to believe in the existence of this list and that channels are coming but until I see evidence I can't really believe it. Especially considering the amount of false info being flooded into here by the "other forum". It's probably that people sincerely believe they're coming but there's been some bad whispers spread by some bored souls from that place again

As fox mulder said in the x files. I want to believe. But so far my investigations have provided lacklustre

Providing it's a decent bitrate. Perhaps worth noting that on this side of the Atlantic, the jump from 576 -> 1080 is not so attractive as 480 -> 1080 was for the Americans, especially those brought up with their analogue TV.

Plus, US channels never went widescreen for their SD broadcasts (there may be one or two exceptions though), so over there widescreen = HD.

Agree on the bitrate, too. While modern TVs and TiVo can upscale a good SD picture quite nicely (CG movies on DVD look lovely on my HDTV, although obviously Blu-ray looks much nicer), a low quality SD signal will just result in a low quality upscaled picture.

I didn't assume that there was an actual VM list. But if an insider tells someone of several channels that are coming, it effectively becomes a list of channels; not an actual official list.

Now, whether that 'list' is accurate, is a whole different ball game!

Would be nice to get the remaining Sports channels in HD but tbh not that fussed if we get any more channels this year.

Well we’ll all know soon enough. Remember the flak Media Boy took last year when the ITV HD channels didn’t launch? The poor guy took tons of abuse and was almost run out of town, all because a source had been feeding him lies. There’s still some who don’t believe anything he posts as a result.

All I’m saying is there is a storm coming should SKY Atlantic now launch prior to Christmas. I hope those who have declared over and over that SKY Atlantic will launch soon have thick skin because the wolves are already circling.
