VPN Issues

Hi,

I'm an IT manager, and this evening I've not been able to VPN into any of 7 sites via my home Virgin connection.

I've rebooted the Superhub, and Laptop.

I've tried from my laptop, and ipad.

Switching over to 3G though on both and can connect no problem, which leads me to belive Virgin could possible of changed something, so is anybody else having issues?

Cheers
Michael

Have you checked the VPN pass through options in the firewall options?

PPTP Pass through is ticked.

Re: VPN Issues

Try ticking IPSec too, we have the same problem and for some reason IPSec had to be ticked too

GM, thanks for the link but at the moment my home connection is the only Virgin connection (and I'm trying to VPN into work, and I'm not blocked for source IP, but I'm not getting that far).

The dates do marry up, as Outlook (in cached mode) is only showing emails uptill Wednesday evening.

The rest are with various other ISP's, and I've tried to VPN to dns names and IP addresses.

IPSec is now ticked and still nothing.

How far are you getting? Is the VPN connection just timing out?

i can see my name thing ends in .virginm.net and I use a VPN and have no problems. Hmm

Re: VPN Issues

RDNS change shouldn't make a difference unless connection is restricted to certain hostnames, which the OP already said it isnt. Strange, can't think what else could have changed to block VPN other than those passthrough settings

Re: VPN Issues

I'm Getting
Error 807: The network connection between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission and is commonly the result of internet latency or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity.

On six of the sites, only two users are configured and have the details (the other person can connect via their BT connection as can I via my 3G (BT & Orange).

The 7th can handle 200 PPTP users, but we only have 20 users and they are 6 others users currently connected.

I'm in the middle of rebooting the PPTP firewall now.

Just dwitched the firewall off on the SuperHub, and it works.

Switched the firewall back on, and it stops....

Poblem is diagnosed not to resolve it....

Re: VPN Issues

It would be worth switching to Modem mode and connecting your laptop directly, then seeing if it works. THat would at least rule out the shub's routing being an issue.

Re: VPN Issues

Router is upstairs, in room with sleeping ;)

so thats not an option till 2moro.

I guess tick mutlicast? We have all 3 ticked and it works. Ticking PPTP should work, in theory

Well after switching the firewall off/on a few time times it's now working...

At time I love IT.

Thanks for the help

Put the superhub in modem mode and get yourself a proper router should hopefully make your life easier especially if you need to use the line for work stuff with VPN etc. It's well proven that the superhub lacks in most departments.
