upgraded to 120 meg

Hi, I have done a speedtest and only can get 93 meg download 11.00 upload
I have the superhub 1 in modem mode with a dlink dir 615

I tried virgin support but they taken control my imac and mucked up my wireless ?

I have now reset the wireless but they wanted to clear the dlink modem
but i would not let them due to my port forwarding devices

any help is much appreciated

Try plugging a PC straight into the SH and trying again. I think you've hit the throughput limit of the DIR-615 ...

It's only got 100Mbps ports so you're never going to get 120Mbps through it!

Re: upgraded to 120 meg

Pretty sure that router is only 100mbit and that 93 is about as high as you'll get through it.

Re: upgraded to 120 meg

The DIR-615 is definitely, definitely only capable of 100Mbit. The wireless is capable of more, but the catch is the WAN port (that the SHUB will connect into) is only rated at 100Mbit so that's as much as you can get from the internet.

You've not got many options, but in order of preference (least to most), here they are:

* Accept that you'll only get those speeds (free)
* Ditch the DIR-615 and use the SHUB in router mode (also free, also not a very good option)
* Try calling retentions (Not tech support) and begging a SH2 from them. You MAY get it for free as you're on 120meg but it's very dependant on which agent you get. Might be free, might not be. Some people are luckier than others, some have to just pay postage. I'd say try your luck.
* Ditch the DIR-615 and buy a better router with gigabit ports. There's a TP-link that's popular for about £50, or the router of choice is the Asus RT-N66U which can be had for about £100 depending on where you look.

F*ck that dude. Once again tech support have proven that they don't know anything and instead opted to screw up your wireless. I would ring up retentions, put in a complaint and say you have since found out that the dir615 can only do 100mbits so why didnt support tell you that and insist that they give you a shub2 for free. You are now on the top tier so there is a good chance you can wangle one out of them.

Failing that it is a shub1 in modem mode (don't use it for router or wireless at all) and a proper router attached to it. You can either go for what has been suggested above or take a look at this:

I am too ill to give my Linksys is awesome speech atm but suffice to say they are and this router is. £40 + p&p and you have got yourself a bargain.

Isn't what you said pretty much what I've said, General?

yup and I do apolagise, my man flu is causing me to mis-read things :) I still think tech support are **** for not being able to troublshoot the obvious, especially as it is a router they supplied.

the rt-n16 is also excellent which is the router I have.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-RT-N16-...eywords=rt-n16

The difference from the n66u is mainly the lack of dual band wireless. I would say this is a very good 2nd choice if th en66u is too pricy for you.

Both routers will run tomato which is excellent firmware, the traffic logging on it is the best I have seen on any firmware/router. Also various advanced features as well.

Ick, £71 for a single band 300Mbps router?! Serious rip-off if you ask me, seeing as you can get similarly specced routers for less than £35

well depends how you see it.

I see dual band wireless and single band as a "minor" difference, so if the rt-n16 is a ripoff so is the rt-n66.

so I'm curious qas, why only attack my reccomendation and not the other. the routers are very similiar, and I think trend is unuusally cheap on the market as well. Its as if you just looked for the cheapest out there to make a point.

do trend routers have all the same software features and flexibility to add opensource firmwares? do they have the same wan to lan performance?

I guess if we follow your logic any router thats more expensive than trend is a ripoff.

another reason why the Linksys E3000 is a superb entry level router at ~£40, it is a win-win all round

Need more information. What are you getting 54mbps on? Is it a phone, laptop, etc. ? Model numbers are important as well. 54Mbit sounds suspiciously like something is running in Wireless-G mode.
