Telford Area

Can anyone tell me if Telford area TF7 does have 120/12 available now?

Bit strange really cos virgin media told me that my area is now on 120/12 and also it say on the website when placed an order it say my area is up to 120Mb available.

But my superhub still on 100/10?

Config hasn't been pushed out to you yet. Give them a ring and they should (prematurely) activate it for you. That's what some other people have done.

telfordcable 27-08-2013 17:28

Re: Telford Area

I thought it automatically itself?

Ok, I give them a ring now!

It dynamically you foghorn leghorn one day.

Kushan 27-08-2013 17:49

Re: Telford Area

It's supposed to be automatic, but there seems to be a delay between them enabling 120mbit for new customers and rolling it out to existing ones.

telfordcable 27-08-2013 17:54

Re: Telford Area

I just get off the phone as they say I have to wait until September 4th for my property to be upgrading itself. They told me it will be automatically. The work is still ongoing in my area until September 4th completed.

Thanks Guys.

There was about a year delay between doubling anything for existing customers and new customers getting the doubled speeds unless you called in and asked in my area.

Don't ask don't get seems to be the rule.

General Maximus 27-08-2013 20:24

Re: Telford Area

that is something completely different. Existing customer weren't being upgraded because the extra capacity didn't exist and new customers were being sold something which wasn't there and more than likely made things worse in the short term. 120mbits isn't being given to anyone before the upgrade work is done although Kush thinks they are holding back on rolling it out to existing customers.

Kushan 27-08-2013 21:02

Re: Telford Area

I wouldn't say "Holding back", just not prepared to roll it out immediately. I'd wager there's probably still work being done but they probably figure that new customers should be ok to get the extra speeds as there's not really a lot of them.

This is all speculation on my part, based off of people having called up when they've seen their area was ready and getting the upgrade a little earlier.

Skie 27-08-2013 21:30

Re: Telford Area

The year long delay was mainly because VM wanted to be able to say 100meg was available nationally for marketing purposes, so it basically became a new customer only thing in certain areas (like Liverpool). Existing customers couldn't get it as a speed boost until they actually got around to doing the work in that area.

The double speed upgrades are marked as done on the boltometer and on whatever database decides the level of a service a new customer can have, but the actual provisioning of it to existing customers takes a bit longer. Probably because VM's systems are a hodgepodge, it may even be down to one poor sod to run a query to find what customers it affects and then to put their details into the provisioning system (hopefully not one by one).

Either way, once the boltometer says you have been upgraded it's a few days before the config is pushed out.

I just called up and ask for disconnection of my broadband service. Going to join BT FTTC :) with Plusnet. 80/20.

My exchange is FTTC live.

I don't believe you dude because every single cabinet I have been which has been enabled for fibre has got a huge white sticker on it advertising it to customers as they drive past.

kwikbreaks 28-08-2013 16:57

Re: Telford Area

That is an FTTC cabinet as you can see by the electric hazard sticker. Normal BT street cabs have no 240v supply.

That doesn't mean that I either believe or disbelieve the post about moving to FTTC and I really couldn't give a flying **** on whether that is true or not.

To be fair, the FTTC cab at the end of my street (which is definitely the FTTC one as it was only installed a few weeks ago and Warrington is to go live pretty much any day now) looks exactly like the one in this pic and doesn't have any white sticker on it either.

That being said, I'm sure this isn't the first time telford has switched to FTTC.

The one that was being built down the road from me was stopped as they were going to build it up against a home owners fence and it would have stopped him maintaining his fence. The owner of that fence has told them to sod off and put up a big sign on his fence to say that. BT are now looking for another spot close by

Please don't leave us TC, what are we going to do without you? One of the reasons I come here is to try and keep track of what package you're on and what you'll be on in your next post. It was only last week in this post that you were getting a refund so you could avoid the price rises on your 30Mb. As you've changed package did VM ask for the £30 back?

Cheers

Grim

Awww thanks. But I always want a FTTC because of better ping for gaming, better upload, no traffic management on Plusnet.

Plusnet order had been submit to BT. Activation and installation date: 19th September while my cable disconnected on the 27th September. BT number not recognised on BT checker as plusnet say use the post code and address instead as BT don't deal with virgin media telephone number.

no worry as plusnet say my area FTTC was already live four months ago because BT checker post code didnt metion FTTC but the address with post code does metion FTTC as BT are crafty as I couldn't put telephone number because BT do not recognised virgin media phone number. BT will activated BT line with FTTC on the 19th september with new phone number.

Virgin Media was offering me 120/12 for £19 a month with 12 months contract with discount loyalty of £16 a month off. But I say no thanks when I was called up to disconnected service. They try to phone me back five times today from 08000 013 5333 try to get me staying with them.

Re: Telford Area

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedt...94031-mini.png pretty good speed.

I am now more worried about BT FTTC is horrible under DLM at the exchange. I might give plusnet a call to cancel the order and stay with virgin media. I am gutted as I thought they won't put me on 120/12 for a long time until today. Cheek of VM.

I am going to call up virgin media to cancel my disconnection.

September 4th. So despite not getting FTTC until the end of September, the fact that telford would have to wait 6 whole extra days for the 20mbit increase is apparently what swayed him to jump to FTTC.

Re: Telford Area

I just been phoned both virgin media and plusnet. I had a new 12 months contract deal with virgin media to stay with 120/12 for just £26.00 a month - great bargain and they are pleased to hear I had decided to stay with them since 2007. And they had now removed my disconnection. And Plusnet had confirmed that the order had now been cancelled and submit to BT Wholesale. And Plusnet say yes I was right that the BT FTTC are on the DLM at the exchange that decided what my line can do with FTTC no gaurantee of 80/20. And the DLM could be kicked at anytime could increase speed or reduce the speed. Not a good way. Plusnet are disappointed that I staying with virgin media and wish me the best of luck.

So, I am happy staying with Virgin Media and look forward to 200/20 soon :)

Is your whole life based on internet speed and how many times you can connect and disconnect from a provider in 1 year?

Do you mean that £19/month was BB only? You specifically refer to a £16/month discount which would make the undiscounted price £35/month ie the standard price...

So not a £16/month discount then? Just an £8/month discount.

Perhaps the money you're saving could go to buying a new calculator :)
