Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
Last I heard VM Retentions were insane - offering incredible discounts on top packagaes to retain customers..
I'm on £10/month SIM only, 150 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited data. First guy I spoke to said they do not offer discount on this package, nor the £12 SIM nor the VIP SIM. Second guy I spoke to confirmed this, and was more than happy to let me cancel and take my PAC Code! What is going on?! Normally they're clutching at straws, asking where you've seen better deals etc. - and now they're happy to just let you walk?! |

Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
I couldn't see them offering discounts on tariffs that are already priced as low as £10 or £12 really, maybe on a £20+ tariff if you're a long term customer

Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
The contract on my S2 came to an end and I spoke to retentions a couple of months ago. They said there were no discounts on the S4 and were offering me the Xperia Z for £28 pm, I wasn't sure about the Xperia Z so I said I leave it for the moment.
When I phoned a month before my contract was due to finish I was told basically the prices on the website were the prices on offer (now £30 for the Xperia Z). When I phoned a few days ago it was the same story, the advisor did phone me back later to offer me 1 months free, but no reduction in monthly amount. Last few times I have renewed contracts I think I have managed to get a decent deal, I wonder if there has been a change in policy (or they are not as bothered about my custom now) |
Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
You very rarely get discounts on SIM only contracts. There's very little acquisition cost there.
You frequently get insane retentions deals on higher priced, handset contracts with minimum terms. Certain networks used to have a tiered system of how much discount "value" you could get based on your average monthly bill for the last three months - with tiers starting at £15, £30, and £40/pm. That was years ago though. |
Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
I feel v mobile deals are long gone now....ive has the same been told no deals on s4 saying 29.00 per month then you go look elsewherw far cheaper deals with quidco cash back.
Caephone warehouse had a brill deal but no longer on offer yeah the handset naff but i could have used my s3 anyway but still in contract it was galaxy ace a free galaxy camera and free galaxy tab 2 7inch for 18 quid for 18 months. |
Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
Even with staff discount, sometimes you can find cheaper elsewhere, the note 3 fo example is priced insanely

Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
Must have been my lucky day as did have sim only on two mobiles a £5.25 with 100 minutes and unlimited to other virgins and unlimited text. 2nd £10.25 with 300 minutes and 300 texts.
Rang to cancel as Orange are £8 for 500 minutes which is the main use for us. So times 2 would only be pence dearer and 1,000 minutes between us. Was given 2 x £8 sim only deals with 1,200 minutes each and unlimited calls to other virgins, unlimited text, unlimited data. Christmas has come early |
Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
This reminds me of when i moved to virgin mobile, previously i had been with Orange for 10 years (or whatever, it was long) but they could not offer me any deals to keep me, due to the fact i always had a basic contract and never spent money over the monthly bill.
The rep said that a customer is given points (per contract) for the spending etc, and then those points are used to calculate any discount etc, So as a customer who doesn't pay anything extra and only uses free minutes/data/texts i only had a few points, thus no great deal. I guess virgin have something similar, so if your a low spender, don't expect retemtions to bend over backwards to keep you like they used to. |
Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
My contracts up, not got a clue what to go for, not paying £99 for a note 3
|
Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
They gave me a good deal last week on my new mobile contract so cannot complain at the offer they gave to me and I still had 3 months left on old contract.

Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
Rang up to cancel back in may and they game me 2 sim only contracts

Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
Better services and products need paying for. And I dare say every other network is putting their prices up as well.
|
Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
And introducing new "partner" networks that re-sell the same thing at a lower price...

Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
I have had the VM17 plan it was called for 2 years now discounted by £10 a month to £7 for loyalty. Its sim only and 30 day rolling contract and I get 1200 minutes unlimited data and texts and unlimited virgin calls and texts.
Just called to cancel both my teenagers £15 unlimited monthly rolling plans as received a letter saying it is increasing by £1.50 at the end of the month and said I will stay if you can give them the £7 a month same tarrif as mine each too. He said yes and just swapped them both to £7 a month VM17 too no haggling or anything. They have both had their rolling sims for 8 months. |
Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
Just proves that asking nicely works. Why people feel that shouting and threatening will get them what they want I will never know.
Might have mentioned this tip, if I haven't then I will now. Look at your bill to see when any loyalty discounts are due to end. If you have less than a month left, then call retentions and talk to them about a way keep what you want and drop what is not needed. I did for a relative (saying I was being pre-emptive for her as she was a pensioner and got praised for it by the woman), and by forgoing the Talk 08 option, a second box and movies her price went from £103.75 a month to just £81 a month. £8 less than what she paid between February and this month, with loyalty ending on 26th. And a brand new 12 month contract as well. She has seen out every single contract signed with Virgin. |
Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
Anyone managed to get a deal with a handset, seems it's easy to get a sim deal but not a handset deal

Re: Virgin Mobile - Retentions...
It's always made sense me getting handsets as I get a 50% discount. Will probably wait and see if the note 4 comes out before I decide.

So looks like I'm going to get a LG G3. Give the wife my note 3. Not sure if it's a downgrade or not. Similar specs. Don't like the big bezels on sonys. |
