Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
Hi, I'm just interested in whether people have changed their package, done nothing or cancelled service(s) with VM since their failure to provide BT Sports as a replacement for ESPN.
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
I'm staying the same, not missing ESPN as we never watched it
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
If i was on VM then i would cancel so i voted cancel
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
stayed same on VIP no way downgrading love my HD ;)

Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
I'll give it until October to see what (if anything) happens with new channels by then. Various sports I like to watch in HD will be finishing their seasons about then, so if nothing positive has happened I will downgrade.
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
Have no intention of changing - BT Sports would be a plus but not a game changer

Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
I haven't yet, so haven't voted, but I am considering down grading to l now that ESPN has gone and loads of xl channels have moved down from xl. I don't really want Bt sports anyway so I think this is probably what I'll do, just have to convince the wife.
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
I'm staying on same package as it about the HD for me. If they tied in the £7 hd charge for sky premium with other hd channels then I would evaluate my package accordingly.
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
I've stayed on the XL package. I would have been out of contract July 31st so renewed with a £15 discount for a year and half price Sky sports for 6 months. To me that makes up for not currently having BT Sports. Everyone has their own opinions on what's going on at the moment, and will have different views on what's acceptable or not regarding the price we pay after we've lost some channels. We're happy with what we got and will be even happier if BT Sports arrives on Virgin...
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
I am also staying; BT Sports will be "coming soon"... ;)
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
i moved from xl to m about a month ago
i wont pretend knowing espn was going was the only reason but it was definitely a factor |

Phoned up was on old VIP100 they moved me to the new VIP Collections which gives me more phone stuff and £11 per month less. I have a old SKY +HD with BT Sport with HD for £13 per month so currently spending an extra £2 per month.

Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
Ive not changed, not a massive sports fan, im on VIP as it was better cost wise for the 120mb broadband, XL and Movies.
Im not sure but on a certain temporarily closed forum someone is saying a majority of customers are leaving, but quite clearly so far 80% haven't even altered their package... |
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
To be fair guys, Mr Stokes was formerly a VM customer and only recently changed over to Sky so I think his vote should count :)

Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
It's a shame to lose ESPN, but I see it as a freebie on my package. I am not going to change my package or provider. My land lord will not allow me to have a Sky dish, and even if he did I would not not go back to Sky. BT have nothing that can entice me yet. If they improve their TV service with more channels and more HD, I may start to consider them but it is unlikely I would change. Where I live, VM give me a fantastic overall service and I firmly believe in the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" adage:-)
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
To be fair Setanta Sports was the replacement when the Sky basics were removed it was just a bonus that Virgin managed to strike the same deal with ESPN. Will they manage it again this time with BT, who knows?
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
I've not changed my package, Like the virgin media rep said on the phone last week "You've got the 100mb broadband package, there are other ways to see the UFC if you know what i mean" pretty sound advice from the rep i'd say.
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
I'l ring for the £10 disloyalty discount on monday, but even if they don't offer me it I won't go anywhere.
Really would like to go to Sky for SS3HD and Sky Sports on mobile but just can't give up my TiVos. ---------- Post added at 00:33 ---------- Previous post was at 00:33 ---------- Quote:

Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
I downgraded my XL package due mainly to espn leaving. I also took into account that we were watching very few channels (must be an age thing)
VM has its knockers, but in 15 years the service I`ve received has been 1st class. |

Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
Have changed/upgraded to TiVO (installation Monday). :D So none of the above.
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
I'm gonna wait a while for news but as a regular ESPN America viewer it's made a pretty big impact on my viewing experience. I'd love for Virgin to actually update its' customers on a regular basis (let's face it, they've got the majority of their clientele's email addresses) with news in respect of the ongoing discussions instead of us having to scour the 'net for rumour and conjecture but that'll never happen which is a shame.
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
Again, if they are still negotiating, what can they say except that they are in talks.
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
At the moment i,m on the xl package yes do miss espn as household of football nuts in here,ok got sky sports for our football so going to wait for a couple of months and see what happens with bt sports.then if not getting may have a look and get rid of xl
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
for now gone to m+ cant see BT coming anytime soon but losing 4 espn channels was a game changer but there's other ways to watch sport wink wink.
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
Steveqpr, the chances of VM advising their customers of what is happening, is like trying to find gold in Hounslow High Street, that will never happen, but must confess there CS is appalling.
And l am counting down the days till the 17th August when Spurs KO. |
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
if bt sport was coming in the near future they wouldn't be giving £10 of your monthly bill.

Hi all,
Long time reader, first time poster! I've been on XL for 3/4 years. Just downgraded to "Essential" (m+). Pretty much only had XL for ESPN to watch the UFC. Wouldn't consider leaving Virgin as I think the essential package is really good value for money. |
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
No chance of me jumping ship, just added a extra box for my bedroom in fact.
|
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?

ESPN was always available standalone on the lower packages. It was £6 extra if you had Sky Sports and £8 if you didn't have Sky Sports. What is the difference in price between TV XL and TV M+? £16.50 per month. |

Quote:
The great news for XL customers is Virgin are allowing you to cancel your TV service, if you are in contract, without penalty. Virgin are also offering discounts / half price SKY Sports to stop you from leaving. Maybe a good idea to give Virgin a call, get yourself a good value deal. |

Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
No surprise to me to see the posts about people paying over the odds to get the free espn and similar. What is apparent to me is that the overwhelming majority of customers are very, very stupid and know nothing about anything to do with sport. They also show no real awareness of what is going on around them, and even despite the huge, massive, great numbers of people who have already left because there is no BT Sport yet... i genuinely think most customers will only realise that ESPN has gone at 12.45pm in 13 days time. when they tune in to watch Liverpool vs Stoke. then they will all call up asking to leave too.

Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
ESPN was a bonus to the XL pack and I did watch a few matches whilst it was there but I personally have XL to get all the channels in HD so I'll be sticking with it for the time being.
I don't really watch much Premiership footy and just get Sky Sports anytime I wanna watch my team in Sky Bet League 1! If BT Sport comes to XL then that would be a bonus but I personally won't be paying any extra for it should it be a premium channel. However I do hope they get it soon regardless of pack/cost for all those fellow VM subscribers who definitely want it. |

Here is how reality works. It is possible to have an overwhelming majority of people, but also have a minority than still numbers huge massive and great. Therefore we have a situation where huge massive great numbers of people have already left, but this is still a minority compared to all the other people who show now awareness and will only discover they are missing a sports channel just as the season kicks off. Think of it This way. Let's say a huge great massive minority of 300m people die in China from an Alien Invasion, this would still leave over 700 million alive who would make up the majority of people in China. I thank you, and I await 2 apologies now thank you very much :) Also I am unemployed and i can do whatever i want, i can go to bed whenever i want and do whatever I want really so no doubt about that. I have no bedtime and i can appear at any time, so keep on your toes. I have the distinct advantage of being to to watch loads of football and sports broadcasting due to no job. Further increasing my already 2nd to none knowledge of football broadcasting which I know everything about, and am never wrong on. |

I have looked into reducing my package, however it seems that I already have multiple discounts. I have been told by retention's that if I changed my package in anyway, such as removing sports, or sports and movies my bill would actually go up! It appears virgin have me trapped as any change in my package except leaving would increase my bill. The main reasons I would/could not move to Sky are; it would cost a fortune as I have x3 boxes, the best BB speed is slower than my mobile and I hated loosing TV in bad weather. From the first batch of matches on BT I'm not missing to much of my teams football, but unfortunately I am also a Rugby union fan, so gutted about that. Sorry for going on a bit, I'm new to forums as a whole never mind this one and thought it was an interesting question you posed. |

Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
Wow! Is all I can say.
Just phoned up to cancel, had an argument with the lady about whether BT Infinity is at my address or not. It definitely is. She said that from using cable.co.uk (not the BT ADSL checker then?!) my address can't get infinity. I've just gone onto cable.co.uk and without a BT phone number you seem to have to click on more options and then the infinity products are listed. She swore blind I couldn't get infinity and said that Ofcom have approved cable.co.uk?? Pretty pants website then if it doesn't clearly give the right information. When I asked her if she could check BTs ADSL checker lo and behold, she can't access it. To be honest, I thought that was pretty bad. Trying to mislead someone to keep hold of them. Also she would only let me cancel my TV service which I've definitely done after that conversation! Has anyone else managed to get out of their broadband and telephone in contract as well? |

i have heard the Vertical Interleave Switching routers it do not even have any delay. Or minimal, much less than 1sec. And will cut between sources almost entirely cleanly. That is why I have chosen that for our scenario, as you asked for "best" (subjective, and all this can be affected by the individual talent of the mixer and the producer, and how they have set up their equipemnt). In my mixing setup I would ensure i had enabled my 4 channel hardware controller, which would act as a direct connection to the playout. Obviously being live tv, a manual approach with the playout is required because the automated playout AI can not take into account overlaps of half time, delays etc. So a manual handling is required instead of timecodes, which are usually fine for non-live television. As far as me being unemployed, i come from a family with access to lots of money. So while i wouldn't say I am rich personally, (i only have a few K in my savings which is nowhere near enough for somebody who loves money, live football, and nights out as much as me, i am fine when it comes to living in my families mansion/food/shower everyday. I pay money in to live here to cover my minimal costs of shower, gas, tv license. So I am ok to have all the latest sports channels and tech. it's not just me who watches the football either, although it is me who pays. it's a necessary essential for me and my life. so more than worth the money. And obviously because i have plenty of free time to play games (can't WAIT for the PS4, and have already paid for mine), i obviously need lots of TV to watch as I'm at home alot when I am not out with mates or enjoying the nice weather, talking to a few birds in clubs. Despite that I expect to be in work again before the end of the year, I would be in work now if i hadn't of been fired. And am considering suing them after september once i have talked it over with my solicitor. |

Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
Actually no young_timbo, In response to your reply you failed to answer my question and instead just listed to me a vision mixer, and an encode which could easily be found off the Internet. I asked how you would connect it up?
I also asked how you would transfer the feed to playout, you just said you would operate playout manually. Not how you would transfer the feed. Also hope you enjoy that mansion. And your PS4. Some people don't need to brag about things to enjoy their life. I personally work 7 days a week on a project that isn't giving much return at this very moment, but will do in the near future. It's called working for a living. I don't know if you understand that. As pointed out by another poster good luck trying for a tribunal at the end of September after your legal time to apply has expired. Rather than waste time watching football and playing games and sitting on your throne how about looking in the back of your local papers for some small jobs to pass the time. Oh wait sorry I forgot that was beneath you. |
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?

To be fair, I don't recall young_timbo saying that he was an expert, or indeed had any knowledge at all of the technical side of TV sports production and broadcasting. So why did you expect him to answer your question in the first place? I could be wrong on that, so if I am please point out where he made those claims. IMHO young_timbo does deserve challenging on some of the things that he posts, but as I recall, he claimed to know about when the matches are played who has which sporting rights etc., not the technical side of TV sports production and broadcasting. |
Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
lol. i clearly said much more than that in my reply Ocav and for all intents and purposes answered the question with bells on. and if you knew as much about it as you claim you will know part of your first question, and part of that reply were an attempt to deliberately mislead me with a trick question. you know what i mean, so let's just keep which part between me and you :)
I have a job interview on friday actually, and that is the main reason I decided I probably wouldn't sue them. I still could until September, as my contract was only terminated at the start of June as I was on hiatus, and could have stayed on hiatus longer but they offered me my current holiday hours and i felt like making an easy £400 quid, so i took it. But yeah, I wasn't aware of the 3 month thing. I'm not entirely sure when i was sacked. bit messy. so I'll bear that in mind. I need a reference off them for this next job, so I dunno if it would be a good idea. Especially as this job pays much more and I have a bird on the go who doesn't know I'm unemployed, so i could do with the job, and also Mr Porter have done an amazing drop today and i would like to buy a few things. ---------- Post added at 20:49 ---------- Previous post was at 20:35 ---------- Quote:
I know. I only answered it for a laugh, because I am obviously clever enough to understand it and much more. give me a book be in nuclear physics, or the complete works of shakespeare and i will at minimum understand it and normally be able to write a university standard paper on it. if there's something in it for me. my great grandad was a british-jewish professor of chemistry in the war and actually helped out in the war with his work. so with those inherited brains there's not much i can't read up on and gain a grasp of better than the average man in the street. I only said I am an expert in football broadcasting in the UK and foreign premier league rights. ever since i said that i have been challenged, as you say, on my knowledge of professional broadcasting production techniques, and bizarrely challenged yesterday by somebody who expected me to be able to predict 5 random results from the Championship. Despite me never once claiming to be a psychic. This forum is filled with pedants so it's no surprise people aren't actually reading what I'm saying properly. That's why expert in football broadcasting in (context of watching matches for leisure as a fan) = you are head producer for sky sports, and a world renown psychic. |

Re: Have you changed/cancelled your account since ESPN closing?
Though I'd try to get back on topic. I have not changed my package yet, but am given it serious consideration as I am a rugby fan and BT have the rights. I emailed the CEO's office and received a phone call today. I was not offered any reductions or offers, the woman I spoke to just apologised for the uncertainty and advised me to wait a bit longer before moving to sky as I am out of contract.
Whether she was just trying to keep me as a customer or there is news coming is any ones guess. I'm happy to wait a bit longer though as the first match isn't till September. If no news by then I will find it hard not to switch. Although I would definitely miss TiVo, superior BB and guaranteed picture in bad wether. |

As I said I answered the question for a laugh, just to play along with his games as I had nothing better to do. it was pretty easy really. He is still playing games as part of his question and replies is to deliberately mislead me so that he could pop up and say "ha, you don't need to do that!!!", but I picked up on it. Obviously, any fool could see that I made it, as you said, abundantly clear that i was referring to football fixtures, tv stations and rights, and only a pedant would actually think that i meant i was experienced in broadcasting production. but since it is so easy i could probably do whatever job he does with 2 weeks training and do it to a suitable level. it's sounds a repetitive, dull, thankless job that only a proper gimp that enjoys being locked away in a sweltering, BO ridden box all day would enjoy. therefore i would hate it. i would alson hate to work in football incase i fell out of love with the sport. same reason i would hate to work in the game industry, or as a chef or something. as i love games and food. in saying that i could easily work in something like fashion though, something i also love. (to answer the question my bird on the go doesn't know i'm unemployed. late twenties now and i'm a pretty decent looking lad being honest so i only bother with very good looking birds these days. telling them i have a job even when i haven't is is a pre-requisite. job interview friday though, delighted to hear i have an interview. hopefully get it and then my problem is sorted.) ---------- Post added at 05:54 ---------- Previous post was at 05:24 ---------- Quote:
