Well done Virgin Media

A friend of mine as been with Bt for nearly 35 years and i can believe what he as been charged by them,Had evening and weekend calls and option 1 broadband getting bills of near £56.
I contacted VM on is behalf and spoke to a chap call richard sorted out the 12 months half price deal on the vip package,I contacted bt to cancel is package and the attitude was a total disgrace asking for £152 to get out of is contract i asked him if it could be waivered or discounted and it was a no go is reply was have to see out is contract and cancel with vm,ll the arrogant bt chap was banging on about was bt sports i referred to it as a poor mans sky sports and finished the conversation with you may have won this round but you aint won the war.On contacting vm back richard spoke to his superviser and arranged a additional £50 credit to pay towards is cancellation bill.First class service well done vm:D
Game Set And Match to VM BT you are a disgrace !!!!!!!!!!

Sounds about right my daughter had nothing but trouble with BT. She has just cut a great deal with VM at my suggestion for the Premier collection.

I can assure you that BT is by far the worst company that l have ever had to deal with. Many years ago l was with BT, and if you have a big bill (and who hasn't) l was out of work at the time, called BT, who say if you have trouble paying the bill, call them.

BT cut me off without even a phone call and would be back on until l paid the money plus a desposit on the next bill. Horrible company to deal with.

With VM, l had the same problem - and VM, could not have been nicer, they arranged for me to clear my bill over a couple of months, and also gave me half price on everything until l found a job - thats how good they are.

Phone service 10/10 Tv and BB 5/10

Over the years I've seen many people posting horror stories about BT here on Cable Forum. Even with offers of free sport, people swear blind they'll never go back. Personally I've never had BT however it sounds like I may have dodged a bullet.

Re: Well done Virgin Media

I think Virgin Media are the worst company in existence, and good luck streaming with the Virgin Media internet service.

Their entire service is a shambles, their phone constantly cuts off, you cant stream sites like youtube without buffering you get speeds of 1Mbps on a 100Mbps service and its somehow acceptable according to them, their mobile service is the absolute worse ever, Virgin Media are even worse than EE.

They may have provided good customer service but it means nothing when you'll likely (more than likely) experience problems with their service down the line, and they are big time liars too just like EE.

Oh well, im glad you and your friend are chuffed with the service so far! :)

Ain't that just the truth of it :(

But that's just CS, when it comes to phone, TV and BB services I have to agree with Zee. Over the years I gradually cancelled everything VM except BB but what with increasing management and never ending streaming issues I dumped VM BB for FTTC and am extremely satisfied.

Needless to say I went to sky for it rather than BT inspite of BT being cheaper

I was glad to dump my BT landline for sky talk at the same time. :)

My daughter even went to TALK TALK  to get rid of BT. She says that things have not improved but she now gets a flaky sub 512K BB service for free instead of having to pay BT an arm and a leg. She had to pay around £150 to get out of her contract with BT. She wasn't best pleased but consoled herself that over time it would be worth it.

Think they are all a shambles if you are an existing customer, can't do enough for you if you are new.

Well my second post regarding the new deal for my ex wife proves otherwise for me anyway,it shouldn't be but sometimes it's down to who you speak to the chap who I spoke to for her new deal was fantastic and couldn't do enough a discount and more now you can't argue with that;)

Was with BT for years there BB was appalling struggled to get 1mpbs at times when I cancelled there cancellation team didn't even try to keep me now there playing catch up with fibre which is still more expensive that VM's fibre for the fastest speeds

Unlimited BT Infinity 2 (up-to 76Mbps) with phone line £41.45

Virgin Media Up to 100Mb broadband (120Mb in some areas) with phone line £41.99

the advantage BT have over VM is the upload speed, i am on VM 60mb and i don't need it any faster, i do need faster upload speed though :(

Me too, been with Telewest/Virgin for approx 17 years or more and have had a brilliant service, only had them out on a few occasions and it was nothing major either, a big :tu:from me!

Yeah hopefully Virgin will be able to increase the upload speeds over time they'll have to really other wise they'll be lagging behind especially when more of the UK is connected to BT Fibre which VM also cover

Re: Well done Virgin Media

Virgin are the ONLY company I've been with who've taken retentions seriously as far as I'm concerned. I know there will be Sky customers who feel they've been looked after but when I called them out of contract they basically told me I was free to leave. So I did! And I will never, ever, be a Bt customer again. I'm actually hoping Bt Sport doesn't arrive in xl because a. I really don't think it's that great a product and 2. I really don't want them having my money, even indirectly.

I will only go back to BT if every other telcom provider goes tits up..and then I'd think long and hard about it.

I'd probably do without a landline in that scenario.

Apparently BT are now running there Fibre at speeds of up-to 160Mb in selected areas I wonder what VM's response to this will be in the months to come

If you think BT is bad, you don't remember Post Office Telephones. In the early 70s it took them two years to provide us with a line, which was shared with the house across the road (so sometimes you'd pick up the handset and hear them talking). IIRC installation cost £145 - that's £1300 in today's money.

That's great, Arthur. Can't see why you have been so critical about VM over the years. No company is perfect, but you know, Virgin ain't that bad!

Yours is not a common experience, Zee; maybe there were technical issues in your area. I've been on the cable system since the late 1990s and I've never had the kind of problems you have highlighted.

Oh, Andy, no-one should cut of their noses to spite their faces!

If BT Sports is showing the football matches that you want to see, you shouldn't avoid subscribing to BT Sports because you don't like BT!!

I'm not a BT lover by any means (I'm glad to be shot of them), but this is just a TV channel!

To be fair, if there's a match that I really really want to see, then I'll have a ticket!

That's FTTP though not the more widely available FTTC.

That was down to the Govt of the day who took all POTS profit and gave them back a pittance for reinvestment.
