Will you be going Digital or Disc

Just thought it would be nice to do a poll on how you will get your games. Are you going to go digital downloads, buy it on disc as we do now or go for whichever is more cheaper?

I am going a bit of both. For Special editions or retailers editions (e.g. Game, Play.com special editions) for a few as got a couple on order and then going to go digital for other games

I already try to get all my games via a digital download.

Ideally i would like to go digital but i suspect the digital versions of games will cost far more than disc versions considering they will be region free so would be able to make a disc saving buying from places like Play-Asia.

I voted digital. In a totally vital world games would be cheaper, but when they are still making and selling discs they can't really make the download version cheaper.

Look at the price of games on steam for a start.

PC games have always cost less though on discs, around £30 if i remember?

Both.
If it's digital only, I'll get it digital. If there's a physical release I'll get the discs

Hmm.

A mixture...

Stuff I intend to keep and re-play: I'll get it via digital download for the convenience.

Stuff I intend to play once and trade in: I'll get it on disc.

I very much doubt that downloads with be any cheaper than discs for the Xbox One (or the PS4).

I'll try and go fully digital depending on the prices. They'll probably be special edition version of games I'll buy so I'll certainly end up with some discs.

Re: Will you be going Digital or Disc

I had 3 games on pre order and cancelled one of them as well get it via digital. Unable to cancel one game as its on same order number as console and wont let me cancel console or game and other game is Forza 5 and Game website says its a Game edition so not sure if to cancel it and get that digital but will loose the special edition

They are now yes. I might import some from Play-Asia if they are cheaper

I use a mixture, I usually wait a month or so after release as there's savings to be made, digital downloads often appear a lot more then the disc based equivalent even on older titles.

Be interesting to see how it will play out on the new consoles.

I prefer the physical media. Even then, although I'd bought the CD, I was required to install Steam and download it.

Disc, so I can flog it when I'm done.

Re: Will you be going Digital or Disc

Digital seems to be the new thing and I don't see much wrong with it, but I prefer to have something solid for the money, saves downloading and the all that hassle if I want to take it elsewhere as well. And I could sell on if needed so I think I'd always opt for the disk every time.

Disc as digital might need a connection.

Plus I like to have physical media.

Sorry but that's absolute rubbish , you obviously no nothing about the industry ;) , i will agree when it comes to games like call of duty when they spew the same rubbish just adding new maps and über amounts of killstreaks but the smaller games developers really struggle with the current way things are run.

rogerdraig 26-06-2013 21:11

Re: Will you be going Digital or Disc

the cost of discs does not add much to the cost of the product they 2 a penny as the saying goes, so not having them wont reduce the price

as to industry costs well they need to reduce them if they are spending more than they make

EA (though not liked much ;) ) made huge gains and even more profits than 2011 with turnover of over $4billion and quite a nice profit of over $200million

and little Mojang making around $50million in net profits

its possible to make games and as the latter shows give them away and make money

Stephen 26-06-2013 22:45

Re: Will you be going Digital or Disc

There is a lot more to a physical disc than the disc itself. If you have digital only they will be cheaper than a product that is available physical and digital as they have to balance out the costs.

rogerdraig 27-06-2013 21:56

Re: Will you be going Digital or Disc

I put bets if they went digital only they would with in a few years more expensive and be untradeable

but then i am a cynic ;)

cimt 27-06-2013 23:54

Re: Will you be going Digital or Disc

Can't see that happening. These days everyone is going on about how they doubt MS and Sony will have digital as cheaper like Steam has but most people forget that Steam used to be expensive crap when it launched.
