Sky taking a leaf out of VMs book Re:Youtube
http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Fibre-Br...ighlight/false
Have noticed the last few days youtube being crappy during peak hours, can see my response on the 4th page of the above thread on the sky forum for detail This does indeed present us with an interesting situation, Sky having the same issues as VM, as was mentioned when Sky was faced with similar problems a few months back (mass exchange congestion) it was more how the ISP dealed with the problem, and in that case around 70 exchanges had capacity added within 5 weeks of the fault being raised (i.e. far better than Virgin) - hopefully Sky will shine yet again and give us a quick turnaround on this one |
Re: Sky taking a leaf out of VMs book Re:Youtube
Do Sky have a youtube CDN or just a dedicated peering link to them?
Not had any issues myself, with or without using a VPN |
Re: Sky taking a leaf out of VMs book Re:Youtube

Re: Sky taking a leaf out of VMs book Re:Youtube
Looks like the redirector page shows what CDN you get directed to if an ISP redirects traffic to their own servers. If there is no re-routing then I believe you get the lhr07s13 type server/farm but you see your isp's name, obvious the requests go to their own CDN
From Sky connection: x.x.x.x => bskyb-bhx1 From UK VPN IP :lhr14s15 From VPN in NewYork: x.x.x.x => lax04s14 [u] So if you got different results I would assume that you usually get redirected to sky's cdn but on the odd request you go direct. Now the [u] part is going to bug me lol |
Re: Sky taking a leaf out of VMs book Re:Youtube

Re: Sky taking a leaf out of VMs book Re:Youtube
It would be worth all the virgin media youtube sufferers going to that url to see if there is some pattern that can help them. I would have thought Virgin would have used this method with their customers to help resolve the problem quicker, rather than asking for traceroutes....

You need to run notepad as administrator (right click on notepad and choose run as admin) and then open the hosts file, edit it and save it + reboot. hosts file is usually in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ |
