Spotify & Not paying BBC Licence

I myself am sick of the dumbed down left wing BBC (with possible exception of the news quiz, now show etc)

so I took a premium trial of spotify at 9.99/month

am sick and tired of hearing 'news bulletins' every half hour about the latest shiite about muslims and who's car bombed who - so how about if I pay spotify the fee instead?

Personally I enjoy BBC programming however I know that not everyone does, and not everyone enjoys paying for the license fee.

Enjoy Spotify, I liked it when I got a 3 month trial when taking TiVo. Fantastic if you enjoy great music, even better if you want to avoid BBC news coverage.

What does Spotify have to do with the BBC and how does it fill the intellectual void caused by the BBC's dumbing down?

They do say that, doesn't appear to be true however.

Not really a problem, I haven't paid the BBC Tax for almost 30 years. :p:

Re: Spotify & Not paying BBC Licence

A friend of mine hasn't paid the BBC for years. In fact when they get a letter through about it, it's usually a fine... for £60, which is cheaper than the license in the first place, so they pay that and be done with it for another year!

Do you still get the threatening letters? A friend of mine still gets the letters and even had one of the TV licence men on his doorstep, even though he's been in touch and told them he doesn't need one.

what's the situation with watching stuff on, say, iplayer if you haven't got a tv?

Is there an official line for that?

I believe you need a licence to watch (or record) live television. You don't need a licence for catchup or prerecorded programmes.

It really is that simple. Yet dealing with the tv licence guys isn't. If you tell them you only watch catchup services or use the tv for watching dvd's/playing a console, they won't believe you and they will do everything they can to fine you. You can write all the letters you want, they rarely get anywhere though.

So in the above case it is better to just not have any contact with them and close the door on them if they knock. They have no right of entry and you can even even withdraw their implied right of access, so they can't even step on to your pathway/doorstep etc.

If you have no tv or have one with the tuner removed/no channels tuned then you can invite them in to have a look and they will stop the hassling letters for 2 years, then start again after that.

If they can see your tv through the window or it flashing at night, you are likely to get a lot of hassle :P

Disclaimer: If any legal action taken against you for following my advice of just ignoring them, I am not liable or something like that ;)
