Picture breakup on Sky Sports 2 (Cricket)
 

Anyone getting any intermittent picture breakup while watching Sky Sports Channels, particularly SS1. Currently watching the cricket and every now and again the picture will breakup (pixelate) for about half a second before resuming full picture. I've gone through other SD Channels and this problem is not evident just on this one channel. I've done a TiVo reset and still no change.

Should I ride it out (its not preventing England taking wickets ;) ) or does it require a call to the faults dept?

I don't know if it's me but lately I've detected a slight detoriation in the PQ of Sky Sports SD Channels, it's not a conceived effort by Murdoch's empire to twist your arm and shell out for the HD equivalents is it? lol NO chance.

Yeah we are getting the same, checked on V+ as well as TiVo and its the same. This is on the HD channels.

We do have a few faults reported in the area to do with TV and broadband so could all be related.

Exactly the same here (VHD), started yesterday when watching the cricket on SS1 HD, got so annoying in the end had to watch the end of yesterdays play on SS1 SD!! Now again its happening on SS2 HD. Thought initially it was just a local problem but obviously not. All other HD channels seem unaffected.

It's logged as a national fault. Reference is F002478839. Under investigation.

Cheers for update Spiderplant. Is it just affecting Sky Sports channels? I haven't noticed it on any others as yet.

It's logged as SS1 & SS2 (both SD & HD). It's possible that some less popular channels are also affected, but not enough people have reported it for it to be picked up as an outage.

Longer gaps now between the pixel breakups - but not completely eradicated.

I also have pixelation and ghosting issues with channel 5USA and some other channels. It is not my TV as other channels and HD are fine... is it the supply from originators to VM.

There is a long-standing picture quality issue on most of the SD Channel 5 channels.

It is caused by insufficient bandwidth on the satellite transponder that Ch5 use. If VM could fix it themselves, they would have done long ago.

I'm getting picture breakup again tonight on SS1 HD on my TiVo on the cricket. Anyone else having issues? Only seems to happen when cricket is on

the sports channels in area code 20 have had minor break up in pictures for the past week. since last weekend.

Just the odd partial pixilation. Not enough to be bothered about but it's there.

I also had picture break up on sky sports, but the thing that annoys me most is I regularly get out of synch sound on sky premium HD channels, is this their fult or virgins?

That fault is meant to be fixed (it was teething trouble with the red button cricket app), and anyway couldn't have affected PPV boxing. You have a different fault. I suggest giving the fault team a call.

Don't rule out your own equipment (it often is the cause).
Which comes first - the sound or the video?
Does the problem go away if you turn Dolby off or on?
Try turning off all picture enhancements on your TV.

Anybody else getting this?

Been doing it on most Sky Sports channels for some time here, not as bad on HD. Still the same this afternoon for both SS1 & SS2. I was down at my daughters in Heaton Moor on Saturday and it was the same there.:(

No news of a fix, but at least it is acknowledged as still being an issue. Feel free to report it either on the phone or via the VM community forum - getting more reports will help focus minds.

Maybe there's bad weather at the Super-Head End where the satellite signal goes onto the cable network?

Might be this advert biting back on Virgin where weather might affect your Sky but weather at this site will affect everyone on Virgin's connection. ;-)

I've got a VHD and a V+ box and they have both been getting problems with the picture breaking up over the last few weeks. Mainly on Sky Sports 1HD & 2HD (e.g Champions League Final, Cricket) but occasionally it will spread to most HD channels, BBC, Sky Movies, Eurosport etc.

I also have another issue where every now and again when connecting to the internet by PC, tablet, PS3 etc some of the HD channels break-up, again mainly Sky Sports HD. For example if I load a webpage the picture will breakup until it is fully loaded or if i'm streaming a movie it will breakup continually. This actually happened a couple of years ago for a while but suddenly stopped just before I was going to contact VM until a few weeks ago when it started up again. If either issue continues i'll be contacting them soon.

The Sky Sports fault won't affect those other channels, so you have another fault. But either way, giving VM a call would be a good idea.

Every 3 or 4 minutes now. It was fine until I switched from V+ to TiVo.

I'll be complaining in the next few days.
