Streaming?
I do not see the point in having the facility to watch what you have recorded on your Tivo on a second one in another room when it does not work. All but one of the programs that have been recorded come up with a message saying that they are not licenced to play it. It's a great idea if it worked but it doesn't. Why have Virgin introduced such a flawed system?

Re: Streaming?
Blame the broadcasters who are still living in the dark ages, they won't permit their precious shows from being streamed to another box without a new carriage agreement being signed with VM

Re: Streaming?
I understand that they are not allowed to do so because of the restrictions, however, I would have thought that they would have sorted this out before introducing it. It is like putting films on a Blu Ray disc before there is a player to play them on, its pointless. As I have said, it is a great idea but it does not work.

Re: Streaming?
Yes, but at least it's futureproof!
|
Re: Streaming?
And why don't OFCOM do something useful and tell the broadcaster that what they are doing regarding restricting Tivo to Tivo streaming defies all basic common sense and logic and to lift the restrictions.
|
Re: Streaming?
Completely agree there is no logic in this. Does it really matter if you watch a show in the living room or bedroom?
If the TV show was recorded onto DVD then you can take it anywhere you want to watch it and the powers that be would be none the wiser |
Re: Streaming?
Are you able to stream recordings from newly acquired channels like France 24 and Vintage TV ?

Re: Streaming?
Still poor, we need a lot more channels in the 101-199 range, not one single one so far!
|
Re: Streaming?
No interest whatsoever in streaming the currently available channels.
|
Re: Streaming?
My tv will let me flick what I'm watching on to my iPad for me to take for instance into the kitchen with me or the bathroom... But this is the same, none of the channels you would actually want to watch on freesat are enabled.

Re: Streaming?
But this thread is about Multi Room Streaming (playing shows recorded on one TiVo on to another TiVo across the network), not TV Anywhere which indeed is another pile of poo!
|
Re: Streaming?
Which is dirt of the point I was making that streaming from one device to another is nobbled for lots of devices not just tivo

But Tivo to Tivo streaming is different. With Tivo to Tivo streaming, it has to be watched within the premises that the Tivo is registered to. With TV anywhere, you could lend your ipad to a friend who is a non VM customer and he could watch it at his house or anywhere else that he wants. You can see why there could be more restrictions for TV anywhere, but there is no sane reason at all for any restrictions on MRS. |
Re: Streaming?
Spot on PB, it's no different to swapping TiVo's about in your house to watch programmes recorded on one particular one.
|
Re: Streaming?
Agree that this is ridiculous. I can watch a show I've recorded on my Tivo on an ipad anywhere in my house, but not on another Tivo.
They could fix this quite easily. Implement an easy way to sync series links between Tivos, probably using TV Anywhere. Secondly when you press record on one Tivo it could ask you whether you want it to record on your other Tivo as well. This already happens when you use the VM TV Guide App, when you set something to record it records on both your Tivos, so it should be easy to do. Eventually your recordings would be in sync and there would be no need for streaming. |

Changing it to 'thought you could' doesn't make your initial lie any different. Come on admit it - you don't even have one TiVo far less the minimum two that you imply in your first post. |
Re: Streaming?
I don't own an Ipad. I assumed you could do that, I was overestimating the usefulness of the TV Anywhere app. Irrelevant, but I should have prefixed my statement with "In theory, if I had an ipad I believe". Then you could have corrected me.
My idea would still work though. |
