Formula 1 2013 season
As usual with 1 week until first practice here's the official 2013 thread with of course the drivers championship vote.
I'll close the other thread in 24 hours just to allow any final pre-season info to be posted. As usual this isn't the place to discuss which TV companies coverage is the best instead it's purely about the racing. |
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Whilst my heart wants a British driver to win it my head says its highly likely that Vettel will win it but as l am usually wrong lets hope that proves the case yet again.
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Not long to go now. Taping the press conference tonight, and got the practice sessions etc on to record. I'm determined that I'm going to watch the races in full this year instead of the condensed stuff.

Even if he doesn't win I'd say he's a fair bet for thereabouts. Even though I'm not a fan boy of Ferrari.
I'm looking forward to next year, when the Turbo Years Return :D |
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Sebastian Vettel sets second practice pace, as Hamilton retires.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/21796574 Lets hope this is not the case tomorrow. |
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Q1 underway after rain delay!
Lets go Hamilton! :D |
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Normally I'm rushing between sessions to grab a snack or cup of tea... not today :(
---------- Post added at 07:50 ---------- Previous post was at 07:26 ---------- Q2 and Q3 now postponed until Sunday 11:00am (midnight our time) |

Been up since 5am hopefully I'll manage to stay awake for the next hour or so for quali 2 & 3 and will watch the race when I get up.
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
I'm taping it to watch in the afternoon, rather than the BBC rubbish. So won't be looking at this thread tomorrow at all until I can watch it for myself.
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Mark no one tapes anymore you VHS! no seriously....
Spoiler:
are recording qauli or the race ? |
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Race, got an awful feeling it will be either Vettel or Hamilton on Pole. Hamilton will be praying for it to be wet, as he is better driving in the wet. I'm just hoping Button, Chilton or di Resta make a great start by winning. No chance I don't think.
I meant I am recording on TiVo. |

Bloody family. I told everyone I didn't want to know the result until I watched it at lunch. Got woken up by my mobile going off and my brother had left a text telling me the winner. Not a happy bunny right now.

I fell asleep half way through waking up for the remaining few laps :( good drive from Kimi I take it? was it Kimi who gambled on tyres?

|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Its a very interesting battle for 1st and we are now half way through.
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Team orders played a huge part today.
Rosberg was told to stay behind Hamilton and Hamilton acknowledged this on the podium. Mark Webber was out in front and fine with Vettel behind him and the team orders were to hold position so Webber tuned the engine settings down only to be passed by Vettel, unbelievable stuff. |
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Typical German, trying to conquer the world against other people's wishes. And Hamilton sucks big time. About time Vettel and Hamilton got a broken leg each so they cannot race for the season. Let someone else get a shot at the title.
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Not cool wishing people injury Mark. :td:
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Indeed as l am not a lover of either Alonso or Vettel but would not wish injury upon anybody.

I don't agree with team orders but can see that especially in this day and age there is a place for it. Vettel though should be sanctioned in some way by RedBull in some way otherwise it just confirms all that Mark said in the post-race interviews. As for Mercedes they were both low on fuel so you can understand the team orders.. If they had let Nico through what then? All he would have been able to do was to sit in front of lewis and then lewis would have moaned. As for Lewis well a picture says a thousand words, surprised that Jenson wasn't told about it on camera :D https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2013/03/22.jpg |

Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Not at all. I'm not happy, seems Red Bull are now making it clear which driver they favour. Not putting enough fuel into Webber's car smacks of someone determined to protect Vettel and nobble Webber so he has no chance tomorrow.
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
I too instantly thought of Malaysia when Webber's car ran up fuel issues. It's going to be a constant ongoing thing throughout the season but I don't see Webber being at RedBull after the year's out.
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Fernando Alonso wins Chinese GP. Kimi 2nd, Hamilton 3rd, Vettel 4th and Button 5th. the last 5 World Champions finish in the top 5

Re: Formula 1 2013 season
You know what i think, i think if Hamilton and Mercedes can keep doing well till end of 1st half of season and make great upgrades in 2nd half of season they can fight for title. Hamiton is only 12 points behind Vettel
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Excellent result today, pleased to see someone other than Vettel or Hamilton winning. Seems very convenient that Webber's weekend was cut short in Qualifying and in the race. I don't think I can be bothered watching F1 this season if the rest of it is going to be like the last 2 races.
And I was so excited before the season started too. :( |

Re: Formula 1 2013 season
If he has then I don't blame him. Be a shame to lose him though.
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Yes l would rather lose Vettel then Webber.
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Don't get me started. If I had my way, there would only be the drivers from the lower teams left in F1. But yes, Vettel is now my least favourite driver. He's replaced Alonso there, and I thought that would never happen.

Sorry, I would rather see Alonso win over Vettel. I'd love to know how the Hell Red Bull can be so good for so many seasons. Even Schumacher in his title winning seasons didn't get it all his way from the get go. I'm starting to grow disillusioned with F1, just like I am with several other sports/things. Maybe it comes from becoming older, turning into a miserable cantankerous old git.

Button, Perez and Vettel not set a time yet in first practice with just 7 minutes left. Wonder why?
---------- Post added at 10:30 ---------- Previous post was at 10:26 ---------- Saying that, Vettel just gone 12th with first completed lap of the session. Perez has done 2 and Button 4 laps, none of which are complete timed laps. ---------- Post added at 10:38 ---------- Previous post was at 10:30 ---------- Perez set a time eventually, going 13th fastest. Alonso fastest, 1:25.252 with Massa second. Hamilton 6th, di Resta 10th, Vettel 19th, Webber 20th and Button not setting a time. This is all from the live timing app on formula1.com |
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Times during P1/2/3 are not really relevant, just a case of the teams gathering data under differing conditions/fuel loads/setups
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
All drivers set times in second practice session. Vettel top. Weird how he is crap one session then brilliant the next.
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season

Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Don't like him, but was so pleased it wasn't Vettel that it was worth Alonso winning. See Mercedes seem to be going off the boil now, McLaren seem to be getting their butts into gear and hopefully the title race is now wide open again.

Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Whats everyones view on this Mercedes testing sega?
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
If they DID have permission from the FIA to do the tyre test then I don't see how the other teams can complain about it, although I agree it does look as though Mercedes benefited from it. Difficult one this.
Personally, as I cannot stand Mercedes, I'd say kick them out of the season. Logically, I say they should stay in as they had permission from the governing body. |

Re: Formula 1 2013 season
From what I have read today, FIA are saying they had no knowledge of the test, so either Mercedes are lying about the FIA knowing, or FIA are lying about it. If FIA didn't have knowledge, then that makes it worse for Mercedes. If they did it without permission from the FIA, then I think a fair result would be a small fine and maybe scrap their points from Monaco.
|
Re: Formula 1 2013 season
It looks like Mercedes should have used a car that was atleast 2 years old to do a 1000KM test, and not their 2013 model.

Re: Formula 1 2013 season
Just been announced on SKY Sports News that Ferrari have had their case closed as they used a 2011 car which was within the rules in their test session but Mercedes will be taken to a full tribunal. So sounds like they used either a 2012 or 2013 car in their test.
