Formula 1 2013 season

As usual with 1 week until first practice here's the official 2013 thread with of course the drivers championship vote.

I'll close the other thread in 24 hours just to allow any final pre-season info to be posted.

As usual this isn't the place to discuss which TV companies coverage is the best instead it's purely about the racing.

Race, got an awful feeling it will be either Vettel or Hamilton on Pole. Hamilton will be praying for it to be wet, as he is better driving in the wet. I'm just hoping Button, Chilton or di Resta make a great start by winning. No chance I don't think.

Team orders played a huge part today.

Rosberg was told to stay behind Hamilton and Hamilton acknowledged this on the podium.

Mark Webber was out in front and fine with Vettel behind him and the team orders were to hold position so Webber tuned the engine settings down only to be passed by Vettel, unbelievable stuff.

Very poor words Mark.. They are both good racers and I can understand the team orders (the teams get more money/sponsorship for more points/placings in the constructors championship than the drivers championship) so having them fight it out and the possibility of taking their cars out (turkey 2010 for example) is something they don;t want to do..

I don't agree with team orders but can see that especially in this day and age there is a place for it. Vettel though should be sanctioned in some way by RedBull in some way otherwise it just confirms all that Mark said in the post-race interviews.

As for Mercedes they were both low on fuel so you can understand the team orders.. If they had let Nico through what then? All he would have been able to do was to sit in front of lewis and then lewis would have moaned.

As for Lewis well a picture says a thousand words, surprised that Jenson wasn't told about it on camera :D

Not at all. I'm not happy, seems Red Bull are now making it clear which driver they favour. Not putting enough fuel into Webber's car smacks of someone determined to protect Vettel and nobble Webber so he has no chance tomorrow.

Sorry, I would rather see Alonso win over Vettel. I'd love to know how the Hell Red Bull can be so good for so many seasons. Saying that, Vettel just gone 12th with first completed lap of the session. Perez has done 2 and Button 4 laps, none of which are complete timed laps.

Perez set a time eventually, going 13th fastest. Alonso fastest, 1:25.252 with Massa second. Hamilton 6th, di Resta 10th, Vettel 19th, Webber 20th and Button not setting a time.

If they DID have permission from the FIA to do the tyre test then I don't see how the other teams can complain about it, although I agree it does look as though Mercedes benefited from it. Difficult one this.

From what I have read today, FIA are saying they had no knowledge of the test, so either Mercedes are lying about the FIA knowing, or FIA are lying about it. If FIA didn't have knowledge, then that makes it worse for Mercedes. If they did it without permission from the FIA, then I think a fair result would be a small fine and maybe scrap their points from Monaco.

It looks like Mercedes should have used a car that was atleast 2 years old to do a 1000KM test, and not their 2013 model.

Quote:

Pirelli say they are allowed to ask teams to do up to 1,000km of testing, which was as much as Mercedes did over three days at the Circuit de Catalunya in the immediate aftermath of the Spanish Grand Prix, the race before Monaco.
But Red Bull and Ferrari say the rules state this must only be with a car that is at least two years old. Mercedes used their 2013 car.

They used a 2011 car so surely that is allowed accoriding to rules

Agree about Alonso, but if it came down again this year to Alonso or Vettel then I would cheer for Alonso again. Marginally more likable then Vettel.

I know I shouldn't be so childish, etc but I would really love an injury to Vettel, doesn't even have to be in a car, that stops him from racing for 2 or 3 races so he can't rack up points.

Just been announced on SKY Sports News that Ferrari have had their case closed as they used a 2011 car which was within the rules in their test session but Mercedes will be taken to a full tribunal. So sounds like they used either a 2012 or 2013 car in their test.

Mercedes used this years 2013 car in the test. That has been stated. I dont beileve Ross Brawn would have broken the rules so i thik its ether FIA's fault or Pirelli's fault

Didn't realise it had been stated. So wonder what punishment they will get. Probably a warning, seeing as how it is Ross Brawn, the man who never seems to do wrong with the FIA.

I dont think he has done to tbh. I just cant see him risking a ban and his rep for a few days testing. He knows this year isnt Mercedes' year and know 2014 is the year he is focusing on

A Mercedes statement said they would "explain the full facts of the test in an open and transparent manner".
It added that "sporting integrity is of primary importance to Mercedes" and they had "the utmost confidence in the due process of the FIA".
