I had this illness for a week - knocked me off my feet, so cannot imagine what it is like for an 86 year old lady, such as The Queen.

My 91year old mum was left to struggle, no 4* treatment for her.
Get well soon.

No thanks - I have enough ailments to deal with on a daily basis as it is.

Daily Mail is going a bit far to put a positive spin on the story :D.

Quote:

Stoicism is what she is known for – and even as the Queen was taken to hospital for the first time in a decade last night, she insisted that there must be ‘no fuss’.
Despite suffering from debilitating sickness, the 86-year-old refused to allow an ambulance to collect her.

And as she waited for her car to pick her up instead, Her Majesty even decided that she might as well honour one more long-standing engagement.
I have no ill-will towards the Queen and no resentment of the medical services available to her but it is a bit funny to say she is being stoic and making no fuss when being admitted to a private hospital and taking a private, driven, car instead of a ambulance....

Personally i don't care how much extra treatment she gets, She is our Queen and for what she has done for us over the years i feel she should be allowed a little extra special treatment. :tu:

Get well soon your Majesty

It's not the extra treatment that I thought was weird, it was the extra treatment being given whilst declaring that she is muddling though stoically.

I get the same feeling each time I need to go in to Swansea.

Kinda hoping Charles didn't get any hassle when he rang up asking how she was doing... :disturbd:

That would be because she's not the queen.

What has she done for us, over the years? (An honest question, not one to fan the flames of an argument...)

Whatever you think of what she's doing, she's still doing it at 86, which has to count for something.

Heard Kevin Maguire whining on about this on Sky. His assertion was that the Queen should have been treated in a normal NHS hospital 'just like everyone else' and that a room with a policeman outside would be all the special arrangements that would be required to ensure her security. Somehow I expect had she done just that he'd be moaning about how she'd stolen a bed from some poor dying serf...

Well most people do not get the level of care that she does. That isn't a complaint, it's just fact. However most of the elderly, or anyone else really, do not get a chauffeur driven car driving them to the finest private hospital in the country for a case of gastroenteritis. So hearing about how 'stoic' the Queen is being and how she isn't 'making a fuss' is naturally going to wind people up.

She is the Queen and these are the facilities available to her, it makes sense that way because of what she represents and the importance of her health as a result. However a bit less of a fawning and admiration of what amounts to someone taking advantage of the resources not available to most would be wise IMO. I am glad she is recovering but it would be better to see how we could help the elderly with similar medical conditions who do not have access to the best medical treatment, and therefore really do have to 'not make a fuss'.

Re: Queen Admitted To Hospital.

Maguire wasn't commenting on any of that Damien, if he had been I'd be rather more understanding. In the interview I saw, he was making a general point that she should be treated within the NHS, not complaining about all the admiration she was getting for having to rough it in a top private hospital.

I wonder how many of Maguire's ilk solely use the NHS...
