Micro sim card - Sorted.

Hi guys,

Just bought a Samsung Galaxy 3 and found out that it takes a micro sim card. I have a normal Virgin sim card in my current Galaxy 2, will Virgin supply me with a micro sim if I ask nicely?

Ta.

Well the answer is yes. Spoke to a very nice lady and she's sending me one for 5 quid. A satisfied VM customer yet again.

I'd phone back and get that refunded - there isn't a charge to go from a normal SIM to a micro or nano one.

Really? - When I phoned I got a flat 'NO' When I asked for a micro sim - so I bought a cutting thingy off ebay.

Depends when you asked - they only got introduced for swaps end of last year http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...s/td-p/1603418

I cut my own card down using instructions here; http://www.thechinacellphone.com/micro_sim_template.pdf

I cut my regular sim down and it works okay but for 5 quid I might as well have a proper one. I just downloaded a pdf template, grabbed a pair of scissors and a pencil and went to work. LUCKILY I tried it with an old Orange sim card first and did it back to front! Then I got my brain in gear and did it properly.

I can't understand why the Samsung s3 uses a micro sim, the phone isn't exactly small.

But it is smooth, fast, and silky to the touch, and awesome, finally, I have found a worthy replacement for my beloved Blackberry.

iPhone 5 uses a nano-SIM which is even smaller than a micro SIM.

I would expect you can fit a fair bit of stuff into the space left by the smaller SIM

The space left by the smaller SIM on the S3 has been fit by nothing but air and plastic filler.

Ah ok. Maybe for Samsung it was simply to make it easier for iPhone customers to swap?

Perhaps, or the general Apple pushes a standard and everyone has to follow it or get left behind...

I also agree they shouldn't be chargeable, Orange once tried charging me £15 for a SIM that didn't do what I wanted anyway, I went and ordered 4 free SIMs off the web :-/

Well the brief has gone out again to staff to remind them going from a mini SIM to a micro/nano SIM isn't chargeable

Just got a call from Virgin. Since 2010, a replacement sim card is chargeable. If it was faulty etc. it would be free but seeing as I already had a perfectly working sim card (even though it no longer fit in my phone) I had to pay. Maybe I should have cancelled my rolling contract and then signed up for a new one!

:D

Yeah retentions would probably have waived the charge if you called up and threatened to leave.

Having been on Virgin Mob contract for over 10 years and upgraded to a simm free Nexus 4 (not bought from Virgin but Google) last month they gave me a micro sim for nothing. Arrived next day. I also got a free replacement sim when my old phone was nicked in 2009.

Rang cust services from my Virgin home phone after I had fitted it and listening to a rigorous typing frenzy, my phone sprung into life with my same number. I borrowed a sim cutter to trim an old O2 simm to make a template so I could copy contacts from the Nokia to the new sim.
Couldn't have been more helpful.
