[UPDATED] EU budget set to be reduced

www.skynews.co.uk/Brussels/ecomonics

David Cameron, according to Sky News is in Brussels and will tell them today that they must reduce costs in Administration etc.

In line with the rest of Europe to save money.

He is on another collision course that he wont win, He has already been told by other countries to keep his comments to himself, and he won't rule the roost. And they wont be told what to do.

Isn't it strange that he is already ripping this country to pieces with with cutbacks and severe savings, and he is trying to do the same in Europe.

What l would like to know is where is this money going, Osborne is already borrowing money, so where is the money going that the Coalition are saving.

Re: No Hope - Cameron again a loser

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

Dave thinks he is God and is going to rule the world.

Re: No Hope - Cameron again a loser

Well it does not matter whether its Dave or Ed as they are both absolutely useless.

Damien 07-02-2013 14:02

Re: No Hope - Cameron again a loser

This is about the EU budget as a whole and he has a veto. He can veto the budget if he so wishes.

Chris 07-02-2013 14:06

Re: No Hope - Cameron again a loser

Is this thread about the EU budget, or is it another general-purpose Tory-hating rant? The thread title might need clarifying.

Lost me ,can't we turn it into a "Arthur make your mind up thread " because i could swear that Arthur keeps telling us that MP's and MEP's alike are spending too much money on admin and expenses and need to cut back

Re: No Hope - Cameron again a loser

Not sure what this is actually about as that link above is made up and doesn't work.

I guess its this story??

Quote:

David Cameron and other European leaders are preparing to meet in Brussels to try to reach a settlement on the European Union's long-term budget.

They are under pressure after talks last November collapsed when Britain, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands demanded deeper cuts from 2014-2020.

Its just an Arthur rant plain and simple

Re: No Hope - Cameron again a loser

As I understand it, there is a will amongst members - even France - to reduce the budget, or at least not increase it. So Dave may get his way.

The problem is that Von Rompelstiltskin is disinclined to listen to them......

Looks like we'll get it. Obviously other countries wanted it as well but there you go, Success.

Re: No Hope - Cameron again a loser

But ... But ... Cameron is on a collision course that he won't win! The other countries won't let him tell them what to do!

Damien 08-02-2013 09:38

Re: No Hope - Cameron again a loser

Germany and Britain 1 - France 0. France even snubbed the meeting with us. Thankfully Hollande doesn't appear to be a great politician unlike his predecessor. Additionally we seem to have more in common with Germany at the moment. Also Cameron has kept the British rebate.

Do we need to change the title of this thread?......................................

Done.

Damien 08-02-2013 14:19

Re: [UPDATED] EU budget set to be reduced

Apparently France are quite unhappy! Britain seems to have got most of what we wanted by allying with Germany and outflanking Hollande. Anglo-German alliance!

Re: [UPDATED] EU budget set to be reduced

If you're right, can we further amend Arthur's thread title to include "Cameron NOT a loser" then?? ;) :D

I won't go that far... (as it's a family forum I'll leave it there).

That'd be a bit churlish surely... ;)

OMG Dont let Capt Mainwaring know

Well it wouldn't be a general comment on his premiership as a whole, just relevant to his apparent success (if it transpires) in negotiations in which the OP declared he'd be 'again a loser'... ;)

Osem 08-02-2013 15:43

Re: [UPDATED] EU budget set to be reduced

Well it looks likes there's going to be a budget but will there be any accounts? I've also just heard a report on BBC News24 who claimed they'd been asked, by French media, for comment on Cameron's victory... lol

Apparently the whole thing can still be kicked into touch by the European Parliament, however, which may go some way towards explaining their legendary pay and perks...

What is said in public about the budget and what they then really do behind closed doors are two entirely different subjects. I do not and never will trust the EU bureaucrats to do what they say they will do unless it involves wasting lots and lots of someone else's money

I've removed some off-topic posts. It's ok to be funny but there needs to be some substance to your posts otherwise the whole thing will be dragged off topic. We cannot have members posting successive off-topic nonsense posts all the time.

Please stay somewhat on topic.

Merkel has suggested that 'there will be no surprises' when it comes to the European Parliament and that she has spoken to a lot of them already.

She can suggest what she likes, and who made her the spokesperson anyway.

Indeed we are sleepwalking into full membership including the Euro. Successive Governments have signed over a bit here and a bit there. The only referendum we will ever get is about what on which date we join.

Are we still going to be doing the IN or OUT thing later?

And just how much is it that we have saved this country?
Not the billions of euros as a whole. but what our invoice is for in pounds and pence.

No, nothing in this deal paves the way to enter the Euro.

Not really ... Thanks to Tony Blair giving away a chunk of our rebate in an attempt to crawl up French bottoms, our contribution was always going to go up, whatever today's deal was. But thanks to the overall cut that has been agreed, our contribution will go up by a lot less than it otherwise would have.

Besides, I have read at least one pundit pointing out today that because the figures are worked out at 2013 prices but govern all spending from 2015-2020, with inflation factored in we could still find that the amount we have paid in has actually fallen. We won't be able to say that for certain until 2020 though.

roll on 2020 then :D

do we know who took the hit yet, french farmers ,development budget, other ?

There appears to be a cut in administration, and also technology R&D. The sop to the French is that their feckless, inefficient farmers continue to gorge themselves on lots and lots of CAP money.

As for the reduced rebate, well even Arthur couldn't blame that on the Tories... lol

Well according to this comic there is going to be a secret ballot. If true you can see WHY people want nothing to do with the EU

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/da...secret-ballot/

Quote:

Self-awareness has never been MEPs' strong suit. They have declared repeatedly that they won't endorse any budget proposal for 2014 to 2020 unless it provides for a substantial increase in spending. They're not terribly interested in what the extra spending should go on. It's enough to know that the money is 'for Europe'.
http://www.euractiv.com/priorities/p...-b-news-517661

Quote:

The European Parliament will vote by secret ballot on the EU's 2014-2020 budget, its centre-left President Martin Schulz and Joseph Daul, the leader of the centre-right European People’s Party, said yesterday (7 February).

Schulz, speaking at a late-night news conference, confirmed Daul's earlier statement that the use of the special procedure was planned.
So whats the betting they collude to increase the budget.

NEVER trust the EU to do what they say

Damien 09-02-2013 21:40

Re: [UPDATED] EU budget set to be reduced

Not sure they can just increase the budget but the fact they're holding a secret ballot doesn't bode well, let's wait and see if there is more politicking to be done.

doesn't this new budget still have to be approved by some higher form of life in the EU ?

Once again it seems the Eurocrats really don't like it when they get an result they don't agree with.

Higher form of life, is there a higher form of life than the pond **** who run the EU, ;) . This shows just how much you cannot trust the EU if they are willing to hold secret votes and what else are they holding secret votes on. I think there now needs to be an investigation held to find out what other secret votes there may have had and have they affected the people of this country.
