MP's show they understand the concerns of voters.

Remember the whole "We are all in this together" and "Everyone needs to share the pain"?

It seems a certain 'profession' doesn't agree. Not content with claiming expenses for anything and everything, having multiple jobs, probably the only pension scheme that could be described accurately as gold plated and VERY generous holidays the poor didums are complaining about being woefully underpaid.

One even claimed £66k a year meant his children had to go without Xmas presents!

MPs have suggested a 32% hike in their pay to the Commons expenses watchdog, it has been revealed.

Members said they deserved an £86,250 salary in an anonymous survey conducted by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa).

The research also found more than a third think they should keep final salary pensions.

The average level suggested for the appropriate level of pay was £86,250.

Sack them all. let them have to support themselves with the money they've saved from not having to spend it. and then when they've spent all that and claim benefits. we can chuck big bricks at them.

I think wanting to be in Government should automatically dismiss you from being there. The greatest minds in economics and business and other areas should run the country in their spare time unpaid.

If that does not happened then pot should definitely be legalized and sold in corner shops for a tenner an ounce and then the whole rest of the crap we have to put up with in this country won't matter so much anymore

Most of 'em are just a complete waste of space.

"Them" and "us".

Always was, always will be.

The only thing an MP will try to do well is fiddle his expenses.

I think ministers and those that have extra responsibility to the nation should get more.

But for your 'run of the mill' back bencher I think 60,000 + all the other benefits as more than generous.

I mean I have to admit some ignorance, but what does a typical backbencher do? Apart from answer letter (which they can employ someone to do) and attend civic events, and the odd radio talk show.

Well as Alan Duncan said, after their expenses were cut they're now forced to live on 'rations' of £60k, poor souls.

I am normally in favour as it's a pretty important job but given they've insisted on 1% for everyone then they can take take. 1% increase.

Yes, they may have an argument in normal circumstances but now certainly the time. When they've succeeded in getting us out of the mess they led us into they might get a bit more sympathy from me but if they're going to be rewarded for success they ought to be punished for failure and on that basis the opposition benches would be emptier than most.

If I'd gone with my initial response when I clicked on the link, I'd likely have been banned from the forum!

That's ridiculous! 32%?!? What? What? And again, WHAT?!

For most people in what we laughingly call the real world, the £60K+ most of 'em are already on is five years' salary - and that's without all the other perks! Is it any wonder people don't vote?!

Dammit, where's that revolution we need?!

(Hi, Echelon, it's me again with the 'r' word! Sucks to you!)

Some public servants are more equal than others. They love kicking the public sector but conveniently forget that they're a part of it. Hardly any of the current public sector reforms apply to them strangely. A lot of them have even better paid second jobs/consultancies/chairmanships, as well as second homes which we have to pay for. Can't think of a less deserving cause at the moment. They managed to get everybody to forget about the expenses scandals by turning society against each other and making the most vulnerable/poorest the enemies.

If they don't like it they can resign, like the rest of us could. There's plenty looking for jobs that would welcome half their salary (even before perks).

Good, I feel better now ..... Just need to see Nick Clegg lynched and that would make me very happy (any takers ? I'll pay handsomely.)

Well at least this time they have to ASK for a pay rise like the rest of us.Up until now they used to just choose a ballpark figure and vote for it.No pleading with a boss,no excuses given, just vote for 28%,25% or even 32%.

Indeed and at least during this parliament ministers pay is frozen and mp's can only get a rise of 1% if at all
