Area Upgraded?

Very strange issue, I'm sold that this area has been upgraded, but my modem still has the 50Mbit profile.

One of the TS people on the forum said that I needed to call CS and get them to action the change on my service.

I called yesterday and was told that there were no customer service agents working on that day and that I need to call back today.

I called back today, several times infact. The first person told me that they couldn't help me.

The second person told me that I needed to wait another month.

The third person told me that My area had been done, if I wanted to update it, I need to get a technicians visit to install a superhub, (currently on vm300) it is subject to a 12 month contract and that once actioned will take 10 days to work.

Apparently to do with training on the line (It's not bloody ADSL).

Is this happening to other people, or are their upgrades automatic? (as the website suggests).

Re: Area Upgraded?

You don't need a SH for 100mb, the VMNG300 is fine.
As for the upgrade, it will happen at some stage, it might just take a day or two for the config files to be pushed out to everyone in the area?
As I was already at 100, (and using a VMNG300) the only difference in my case was 2 Upstream channels appeared instead of one.

You were told a load of gollox. My upgrade from 50 to 100 just happened. The Tivo glitched and lo I was on 100 meg.

No training, no change of contract, no 10 days to work. A load of gollox.

Re: Area Upgraded?

I've had 2 US channels for well over a week now, (maybe 2).

I had the feeling that I was told a load of rubbish.

I miss the days where you could make a usenet posting and get someone helpful who knew what was going on to take care of any problems.

Yup.

It looks like they've done something, oddly my profile is 100/5 now.

I rebooted my modem this morning and I'm still on 50. Hoping that'll have changed when I get home!

this is great, I could work for VM from home. I'll give you 10 crap answers and you can pick which one you like the most.

Re: Area Upgraded?

i know it is funny but the joke is that it is true. It is pathetic that you can't ring up and get a problem sorted. If they arent sticking to the rollout schedule for whatever reason then customer services should be able to give you a decent answer as to what is going on. I have seen several posts over the last couple of weeks of users ringing up and them being told "in order to receive the upgrade you will a shub". It makes me so angry. All you get is ****ed off customers because you wait for a shub to arrive, still get the same speed and end up ringing them back again. I don't care whether it is UK or India, that kind of customer service = FAIL!

The boltometer now tells me that I should have 120mb.

Rang up VM this evening to be told to wait upto 1 month for completion of the upgrade.

Re: Area Upgraded?

I think I should send VM a letter saying I've paid my bill, but not actually pay it. When they complain, I'll tell them I'm using the same tactics they use and will happily pay them in a months time.

If only... Shame most contracts are stacked against consumers in that way.

Had 2 US for nearly a month now but still no upgrade to 120/12, not sure if there's more work to be done before the new configs are sent down

Snap , and

Pssst -

if you're one of our up to 100Mb customers, your up to 120Mb broadband upgrade is coming soon.

We estimate your area will be ready between April 2013 and June 2013.

Not sure what package you're on? Then log in to My Virgin Media or check your bill.

Moved from October last year , oh joy !!

Still nothing here - guess I'll just have to keep waiting! Looks as though they're rolling out the profiles region by region.

They are rubbish - now worse than BT why take so long between March 2012 and December 2013 is approx 21 months to wait! or could be longer than that.

BT FTTC is the winner overall.

I don't think it's fair to criticise the length of the rollout for whatever it is that VM's doing. They have a pretty big network, you can't expect them to just upgrade the whole thing over night. BT hasn't upgraded their entire network to FTTC, either.

The length of the rollout is largely irrelevant, the main things Virgin are responsible and should be criticised for is their communication over the rollout (delays are to be expected, but to say an area is upgraded when it's clearly not?), the training of their CS staff, the quality of their equipment, etc.

telfordcable 03-01-2013 13:05

Re: Area Upgraded?

then why is from 50 meg to 100 meg roll out is last 12 months last time but double speed 100 meg to 120 meg is last around 21 months! (that's nearly 2 years compare to 1 year)

Ask Virgin. They're quite clearly two separate upgrades that need to be completed, likely on two separate systems. If I had to hazard a random guess, I'd say that one was capacity increases at the UBR while the other was capacity increases at the backend, or something to that effect.

Cheers for the info, I'll be keeping an eye on it, but the checker says Sept-Dec 2013, so i was slightly confused when i noticed the 2 US in December

Kushan 03-01-2013 15:21

Re: Area Upgraded?

It seems as though EVERYONE's "doublespeed" counter is saying "Sept-Dec 2013" if it hasn't been done already. I'm starting to suspect that's just a bare estimate that's far enough away so people can't complain if it's wrong.

What ya gonna do about that swipe, mon General?

Re: Area Upgraded?

Well my area originally said June-sep 2012 completion, then it changed to end of october, at the end of october the site said the upgrade was complete and a week later it had been updated to End Decmeber 2012, now the site says my area is now complete but if i log into myvirginmedia , it says my area is not ready yet.
What the heck? I would hold your breath about getting your speed upgraded too soon.
