Selling Superhub on Ebay extra stupid.

Selling Superhub on Ebay extra stupid.

This person is selling a Superhub on Ebay and they helpfully posted a picture of the MAC address which one of my ex colleagues posted this link on Facebook and still works for the company in the relevant department, so will be reporting this device as it fully traceable back to the seller.:D

Not quite a Darwin award but quite stupid.:D

The best of it that any agent can trace the original owner in seconds with the MAC address and it can then be quite easily removed as per Sirius's post.

Never bet on stupidity. I know a couple of people who actually bought dodgy boxes in the hope to get cable services and they didn't even have cable in their area :)

It should be in the same place as the sticker you see in the link above, your angry face seemed out of place without the above reason.;)

It will not work even without the MAC address being deleted as it will not be listed on the buyers account and nor will it ever, just a useless paperweight.

its still a concern that equipment is being 'lost'.

Not necessarily back to the seller, but at least to the customer who had it sent to them in the first place. The two may not be the same.

The seller could have been given it, got it from a house clearance or many other alternative sources if they were not the original customer.

For someone who wanted a wireless router for a home network setup, and wasn't worried about performance, would this not be a cheap option?

It can be lost all it wants, if the system does not allow it to be used then it does not take the brains of a arch bishop to realise its worthless, please lets not have another of you bloody rants about clones its getting BORING.

There are better things we could be debating or do you not read or watch the news ?

The superhub was cracked a while back I thought, to the point they had full root access and could change mac addresses and stuff.

you are right about performance

I can find much better routers on ebay than one of these and at least they will give a better signal than this :).

oh please your telling me to drop the bone but you keep bringing it up. i was going to debate costs of 'lost' equipment. its just waste. it should be used to supply another customer with standard kit.

And you think i believe you.

As for cost lets see. I wonder what the REAL cost of one of these routers is to VM, then how much to recover a router, clean and screen it, box it and deliver it out to the warehouse again. I wonder which is more ?

It will be deleted and will never go online and as being used as a router the is no Ethernet Wan port skills again useless.

One of the guys involved with the security side found it so looking for any other device has little or no interest to me and if you 're selling Virgin Media equipment then you are conning people out of good money.

We already know it can't go online in its current state. Are you saying it can't be used offline just as a switch/wireless network?

Don't know enough about how it all works but as it is possible to modify any of the software and options on the SH, such as the mac, then is it not possible for someone with physical access to another superhub to extract things like certificates and the extra security stuff and port it across to another?

What I took from the article was they had complete control over the SH so could do whatever they wanted with it. So from that I assumed that anything could be copied form one SH and put on another, including certificates which I thought virgin used to stop cloning, part of BPI+ or something. That would then make the SH on ebay useful to the unscrupulous if it could then be used.

Re: Selling Superhub on Ebay extra stupid.

The Superhub is still a worthless piece of junk and anyone buying one from Ebay should be put in a rubber room, it is only any good when in Modem Mode and I get 27/28Mb wireless with my Edimax router and 7Mb using the Superhub.

Indeed. Plenty of student flats around here with piles of old equipment from last years' tenants lying around in the cupboards, including but not limited to used Shrubs, DIR-615's, even the old Netgear WPN824's.

The system doesn't allow one part of it to be used, the other 3 parts work fine. And nowhere else will you find those 3 for less than a fiver. Take it apart and even the wireless card itself, which will work fine in any modern laptop, is worth more than the current bidding price on Ebay.

Re: Selling Superhub on Ebay extra stupid.

So the bottom line is that this seller gains some cash and someone could get a bargain or something that is useful to them. Bit different to how it was first portrayed.

Once again the CF Team has to remind people to debate this issues, and not resort to insulting other members.

Posts have been deleted, and the infraction system has regrettably seen an outing.
