replacement router

Hello, as my superhub needs constantly rebooting I was wondering to use just as a modem an attach this router from Linksys.
Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6500 as anyone tried and opinions on this model ?

Thank you.

you have beat me to it dude. I always recommend Linksys to everyone because they are awesome and you'll struggle to find any (Linksys or otherwise) which will beat it because the 6500 is top of the range. If you have got the money to get it then great because it is always nice to future proof but I would seriously consider your needs and think whether you could get away with another model.

Do not go for a 802.11ac Router as 802.11ac is still in development and the final version of it may not be compatible with the current 2.0 Draft and there is only one wireless Adapter at the moment for 802.11ac The NETGEAR Dual-Band Wireless AC USB 2.0 Adapter but its a USB 2.0 so the top speed will be 480Mbit/s so not Gigabit yet.

Draft 4.0 Is currently under development Standard finalization is in late 2012, with final 802.11 Working Group approval in late 2013

There is also the D-Link DWA-182 wireless USB adapter but it too uses USB 2.0 so is limited to 480Mbit/s.

I think Im going to leave for a bit till next year as I had a visit from a VM tech last night and he said that VM are launching a new SuperHub next year
that apparently has two antenna and dual band ,etc ...

Re: replacement router

and given their track record with the current shub (still fixing issues 2 years later) why would you expect shub2 to be any better? You are digging your own grave dude.

Netgear make the shubs so I am never buying a Netgear router. I have never had a problem with Linksys so in my mind Linksys = solid performance, reliability and all round goodness

Netgear make the Super Hub's how Virgin tell them to make them.

they are equally responsible and equally as guilty. They could have always turned around and said "we are not going to produce and put out name to a piece of poo"

the firmware issue has been a joke! they should at least get that on point.

If the shub 2 is up and running and there arent any problems if i was vm i would knock shub 1 on the head and call it a day and send everyone a shub 2. It is good pr, gives everyone a new up to date toy and it will save them the cost in this constant firmware nonsense

Did You Hear beta Testers....SH2.....:) Hopes

Even if a new SH2 will be out next year (hopes not by the end of it) and IF will work better (are few routers with 2 antennas and still not so good especially if the antennas are 2 db) then still VM will do restrictions in that SH for sure (will not let us use the full options maybe like add our own dns serves etc)

Just go and get one linksys are good and in good price(even i have an other brand)
In the worst case scenario keep it always as spare for emergency (with VM is a plus to have a spare one)

Two antenna huh? Real impressive.

The 8-antenna WNDR3700 doesn't have enough in my opinion.

I would not get very excited for the 2 antennas.Of course is a plus any external antenna.
i have seen routers with 1 & 2 antennas and still not the best for wi-fi

I don't agree, their base product apparently works really well.

The problems seem to of started when vm started asking them to drive the price down, remove features, minimise the hardware to reduce cost.. Etc.. Circuit board inside doesn't resemble original pcb in any way, it's a completely different layout, VM even stripped out some of the internal areas.

I usually use their prosafe business products and they are pretty reliable.

To be honest I had to use the consumer grade Netgear for various jobs and they suck. All of them had the same issues with wireless as the SHUB. When we started to use Linksys, most of the problems went away. That said I also used Netgear hubs and switches for Ethernet networking and they were rock solid.
